I got to go for a ride in the ETA. Bruno needed a BFR, so I got to sign his log book! What an amazing flight, with one of the best soaring pilots in the world, in the highest performance sailplane in the world!

You dare test me...
Alex Caldwell hey
I've flown that glider! Fantastic ship. Where is it now?
It's based at Avenal, CA. Owned in partnership by the two young pilots you see here.
Music is crap. The sounds from the glider and vario should be music enough. Spoken as a fellow Nimbus 3 owner in UK.
Wow..beautiful..Thumbs up.. Greetings from Sri Lanka.............
Hi Alex, My Father sold PC 21 to your Father. Those were some of the best day's growing up, sailing her with my Father. I'm glad to see you still have her.
Tom Winkler Thanks for the message. Nice to know your Dad's name. I know my Dad told me you used to keep her at the Navy Sailing Association facility. Are you still in San Diego?
Mr lahey from the trailer park boys called, he wants his car back
I love these old land yachts! GREAT STYLE MAN!
COWABUNGA
My buddy Jim Lahey had one like that, unfortunately he got drunk and ripped the roof off by accident.
Greetings! I watched this one before Part 1, and until the landing, I swore you guys were on something. It was like watching fisherman all watching the sea surface waiting to see the fin. Part 1 was more fun for the viewer, because I could see the glider frequently. Great videos, and I share your wish that more could get out there. Take care.
Town car was unheard of in 77 so to say it's a wanna be is wrong because ford sucks and Mopars rule!! :)
Aren't those seats comfy? My grandpa had one of these and now my dad has it. It only has 20K original miles and is in mint condition. Growing up I always looked forward to taking it out on a trip, which wasn't very often.
Good car I like it
مواتتررر راقيه في زمان الذهبي تمشي براحه ومزيقه هاديه شوفوه كيف يلف الدركسون اخخخخخخخخخخخ بس اخ
Good ol Tulare.
Love the Cordoba, too. But the back seat is too small for anyone taller than 4ft 6. This would be my choice for long trips with kids, though...
No way. This was SOOOOO much more car than a Cordoba!!!
I'm still looking for Bruce! Thanks for your help and trouble Thais! It is good to feel I've got a bit of help on the US end as its very difficult from here in Spain! Don Mellon may be able to help as he wrote another book about those early days called "The First Wave of Stories" that also featured Bruce Westphal unfortunately I haven't managed to contact him either!
Hey Thais! Thanks so much for your time & help! I'm still looking! But from Spain its very difficult! I think Don Mellon is still about and was in touch with Bruce not too long ago but I haven't been able to contact him either!
San Diego
Can someone can tell me where can I find Bruce Westphal, a old good friend of him is trying to get keep in touch with him again, and i am helping her to make that happen, please any info let me know ASAP, thanks
Bud Caldwell (88), Joe Gann (87), Marsh Malcolm (79), and Ron St.John (73) are still alive.
TOWNCAR WANT-A-BE
Long live Skeeter, Hodgi and Black Mac. How can you not love the sport, the history, the soul of surfing hanging around such great watermen as these. And Johnny Elwell, Tommy Keck, Tommy Carlin. It doesn't get any better. What I wouldn't give for one more day in the parking lot with you youngsta's - coffee, doughnuts, and Skeeter's rusted tailgate and wobbly Hawaiian music. I'll never forget you guys, and may I grow as old, as generous and as humble in my twilight years. Aloooooooooha ...
It's Ab not Ab's!
I do have to admit I also liked the Cordoba a lot. Never had one though. I also used to have a 1969 Dodge Coronet 500 that looked like the "General Lee" on Dukes of Hazard.
No way ! The Cordoba is wayy more nicer.
This is so cool! Looks like Ab's lefts to me, surfed there many times. We can only dream of surfing these waves with a few friends out today. Too bad... Thanks for posting this!
I love that look back toward the back seat, looks like its about 10 feet away, lol. This is a real car with plenty of room inside for big people to get comfy :)
i only came for 2:25 to 2:35 the A380 of the road.
do you find that the aircraft is well-suited to longer cross country flights?
Hello Alex! How are you? Do you still have the New Yourker. It has been kind of a problem to send messages as it was before. Hope yo are ok..!!
Wait a second! Is that Avenal CA?
yes, the big blocks got the 727 torqueflites. Bullit proof tansmission for the most part. The valve bodies were programmed a little soft on the luxery cars, which is why they shifted so smoothly.
I used to buy cars like this. My mom would always tell me "You bought what??????" hahha. Her expressions were priceless!
How much is it plz answer
WHO ARE THOSE GUYS THEY RIP !!!!
Those guys did pretty good considering they didn't have skegs back then!
Sailing there is super fun:)
I remember those guys and it’s so cool that you’ve documented some real cool (and important) guys in the San Diego surf scene. Thanks!
Yeah that was sweet! Reminded me of my Friends '74 Imperial Coupe. Car was original right down to the 8 tracks! Man we had one smooth ride back after a dube, some Elton John, Beatles, and other fitting 70s tunes! Too bad that Chrysler went west.
Who in the film is still alive?
Wow! Still pretty much the same 64 years later. I wonder if there were any at Newbreak trolls back then
Agreed, I had nothing but trouble with the lean burn system, engine timing was a disaster. Motor also had nylon timing gears, they would all eventually skip a tooth and have to be replaced with an iron set of gears.
@maxwelljrdn HELLO!!!!
this is cool stuff i used to hang down there when i was a kid in the '60's love it !
I used to own one. Mechanically, it was not a great car. It had constant electrical problems and the Lean Burn system was a poorly-engineered headache. However, it was a pleasure to drive and was stunningly beautiful. Mine was Golden Fawn.
The reminds me of the opening to the movie Duel.
