The first 2 boats in the 1965 section are The Cornish Belle and The Cornish Queen. They were owned by the Paynter family.(The Fleet was marked with red flag with a white P). I expect that he at the helm of the Belle when this was filmed. The Belle took tourists out to Seal Island where there was a Seal colony. The third boat in the fleet was The Cornish Crest. Dan Paynter was my Great Uncle and it is likely that he was at the helm of the Cornish Belle in this footage. It’s lovely to see, thanks for sharing.

I have played there

I was there in 1960, 1963, 1966, 1967 and 1969 but the pictures are all in my head. In 1963 we took the trip to Godrevy Lighthouse and almost certainly on the open wooden boat seen in several shots which I think was called the Cornish Queen. I have a cine film that my Dad took of the trip which was quite rough..the trip finished soon afterwards as being thought too dangerous. However my first visit was in 1950 and in a pram! Pictures survive of me with my parents, my friend Alan and his parents on a two week holiday staying in Trenwith Terrace. We spent the days on Porthminster Beach...the steam engines passing above. I have continued going to St Ives ever since...dozens of times and last March just before Coronavirus became a problem. I need to be back there soon...when we are allowed and the virus is losing its grip, I will be there. Thank you for these images...maybe I am in them or not far away! 😀😀😀😀

I remember running around those tents on Porthminster when I was a kid .The big boat in 66/67 was it a tourist boat or a working boat ?

Fantastic video, traditional family fun, not commercialised and not a smartphone in sight ! I bet it was fab growing up as a teenager back then. A lovely world and a lot simpler life. Sad its changed for the worse.

Thanks for this video, my late father introduced me to Cornwall and it stole my heart. Many happy holiday memories had and hopefully many more to come.

had holidays there 1964 & 1965 with my mum & dad drove all the way from Liverpool took 2 days then!!! Anyone remember mr lobb the lifeguard on Porthmear beach ? , took my own son for holidays there , things follow on!!

I have to show this to my mom...she would stay in st ives with family in the 1960s/1970s in the summer. We still come to st ives every year...but I think she would like to see this to remember it how it was back then...

Have a lot of happy memories of St Ives in the late 60s /early 70s family hols. Makes me all goose bumps. But you can never relive it. But very fond memories. Mum and Dad both gone now so even more so.
