We look at a slew of bird name changes proposed by the IOS since the last episode as well as other exciting birding news.
Finally if you have ever wondered who is the top predator, the bird or the snake, you had better check out our From the filed section.
From the field is brought to you by cam-a-lot rentals

You also stand a chance to win an amazing pair of Nikon Monarch 10x42 binoculars. Find out more in this episode. These amazing binoculars will take your birding to a new level if you are just starting out and have not upgraded your binoculars.

Hope you don't mind a question but I saw a bird in krugar with a thick red Stripe going width ways (not length ways) across the middle of the underside of its wings, I just can't find out what bird it is, any idea? I've tried to find out for a few years, now I'm very ill but would still love to know, if you can help I would be very grateful. Kind regards, Jilly

@@justusroscher6355 yes maybe. I thought the red Stripe was in the centre of the wing but after searching all this time and not finding anything I must be mistaken, so I have to agree with you, thank you very much for your reply. Best wishes .... Jilly

Eat little clip I've seen thus far of the Barbets calls and sounds. MY FAVOURITE Barbet is the Crested Barbet, my kids and I hand raised a baby Crested Barbet, you hardly ever find a Barbet but down the road from where we stay a person was cutting down a few trees and I think the Crested Barbets nest was in one of the trees that was cut down. The Crested Barbet has a character of its own, extremely Bold and Scared of Nothing at all. I know every bird from all bird species has their very own character, Our Crested Barbet, we Named Hopper, cause a Crested Barbet doesn't walk like other birds, they hop wherever they go, and if a Crested Barbet is in a hurry then it can hop so so fast, anyway our Crested Barbet, Named HOPPER, didn't like to cuddle, it loved to sit on your shoulder and and hop from one shoulder to the other shoulder and when you bent over it would hang like a parrot on your shirt, our Crested Barbet was very independent, and it had different calls and sound when it say me, a different call for attention and a different call for some food, and there was a slightly different call for when it wanted certain foods, like a slightly different call for when it wanted fruits or insects like , crickets, meal worms ect. I promise you I'm not making this up. Anyways I couldn't keep HOPPER in a fairly big aviary by itself, so HOPPER out little Created Barbet was now big and healthy and I could see it wanted to be free like it should be, so we released Hooper, we see Hopper often in our Bird Garden, still comes to eat and have a drink of water and loves to take baths in the one water bowl as we have 4 water bowls in the bird Garden, hopper use to come to me when it say me, it would land on my arm or shoulder, then hopper would land on the floor and come hop over to me and then jump up on me and now, it doesn't land on me anymore, but still comes very close. When I take our Pitbull for a walk and hopper our Crested Barbet sees us, it flies from one tree to the next tree and has different calls and sounds it makes. I've got a few photos and videos of Hopper our Crested Barbet, I miss that little bird but it seems so happy free now, I'm just so grateful that my kids and I had the opportunity to save/rescue a baby Crested Barbet and release it back into the wild. Not many people at all have opportunity to like that with such an amazing bird like the Crested Barbet. I know you need a permit to keep a Barbet and all that, but we saved the little birds life and it's been released and is a daily visitor at out house.

Is Everton River Gorge the Northern most limit of the distribution of Knysna Warbler? Here in the Garden Route you can still locate them in winter by their short scratchy repetitive krrr krrr alarm/contact call with the odd bird even obliging with the full territorial call, but they are definitely less vocal at this time of year!
