Watch our machine shop journey
OP2 TITAN-78M
This is the second video in a series on quoting, machining, and evaluating the Titans of CNC 78M from the Aerospace Academy. In this video, we machine operation two. Although this part is fictional and not real, we approach it with the same attention to detail. I hope you enjoy watching this video as much as I enjoyed making it.

This is the first video in a series on quoting, machining, and evaluating the Titans of CNC 78-M from the Aerospace Academy. In this video, we'll cover the quoting process at Loper Machine, showing how we estimate this part just as we would any other job in our machine shop. Although this part is fictional and not real, we approach it with the same attention to detail. I hope you enjoy watching...
Fun Fridays: Part modification

Quickly generating workholding ideas is crucial for success. This video demonstrates brainstorming to production. Modifying parts can be challenging when there's little left to hold onto.
Do you want to CNC a snowman?
มุมมอง 1.2K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a CNC machined and 3D printed snowman. Made on a Mori Seiki MT2000 and my son's Toybox printer. Made from some 6061 aluminum leftover material. Designed and programmed with Mastercam 2024. This was a fun little project. Hope you enjoy it and have a great holiday! #cnc #cncmachine #moriseiki #mastercam #toybox #snowman #robots
CNC machined ukulele

Sound check, I made a ukulele out of aluminum on the CNC machines! Might have to make another and film the process. What do you think?!
TITAN HAMMER
มุมมอง 12Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video you will watch the Titans of CNC hammer made in one operation. This is a great example of the flexibility a mill turn offers. This would not be the most efficient way to run production on a part like this, however for 3 parts or less (porotypes) you can't beat the simplicity of the setup. I hope you enjoy the video! Thank you 🙏
Amazing ❤
Thank you!
I noticed you were using a Mitsubishi Materials grooving tool. Do you use any other of their tools?
That’s awesome you noticed that. Yes this machine is tooled up with all Mitsubishi turning tools. When it comes to milling in our shop it’s a mix but I still love their products shell mills, drills, thread mills, etc. Also, our sales guy Dan Zakeri is pretty awesome 😎
@@alexloper3084 I'm a programmer for Mitsubishi Materials so I'm always looking for our tools in videos. Great part and video btw.
nice video! 1 Question: Why make the Boss to clamp on ypur lathe just 2 "? it makes the clamping less rigid, versus clamping on a big diameter. Makes a big leverage, when milling /turning on the front/ outer diameter
Great question! Actually I look at it as more shoulder face contact against the face of the jaws. At a 2” diameter I’m getting the max diameter contact possible with the jaws I have for this chuck.
@@alexloper3084 yeah shoulder Face is important. Could you turn out a bigger diameter step in your jaws?
@@jakobhohenstein6311yes, I could do that 👊 I appreciate you brotha. 💯
really nice work
Thank you so much!
Can definately tell you learned from Titans of CNC lol.....
🙌💯
Why not using a tailstock for first OD ops? Speeds and feeds could've been increased
Unfortunately the sub chuck is to small. God willing. We’ll get there one day✊🏻
Hey Dude, nice job I have a little trick for better visibility through the window. Use these iPad screen protectors they are very hydrophobic. I use in my puma 2600SYII been in for about 6 weeks at the moment but you get two screen covers so maybe you incur this cost every 12 weeks pretty good in my book. Others may work but this is what I have personally used. Make sure the glass you stick it too is as clean as possible. JETech Screen Protector for iPad 10 (10.9-Inch, 2022 Model, 10th Generation) with Easy Installation Frame, Tempered Glass Film, HD Clear, 2-Pack
In hind sight think you could have made it in 2 ops? And whats the reason for doing the prep op in the mill vs lathe?
With a spindle transfer absolutely. Unfortunately our sub chuck is to small. The jaws that I would have to use would result in a pretty sketchy setup. Working towards a larger machine in the future. I should have explained the mill prep. I had another job setup in the lathe when I started this project
@@alexloper3084 Very good reasons, thank you for breaking it down. Sometimes it's not the best way but the only way with what you have available.
What cam are you using ?

Love to see a MT2000! Used to work on it. I love this machine!
The background music in your video is a copyrighted video. It's the background music of the game called Maple Story by Nexon Game Company It is a famous game in Korea.
It’s a great game that I grew up playing. Started playing back to the beta days. I love seeing other people pick up on this. What a great game. Thanks for sharing. Much love 🫶
cool
@@alexloper3084 Oh, the game must be in service in your country, too. It's amazing! Will the next content be Maple Story's slime or orange mushroom??
Machining my favorite staff from the game called “Thorns” would be an awesome part to make 🤔 I never thought about making maple story items or characters but you got it on my radar 👀
Excellently done!
Thank you 🙏
I already love CNC machines but the maple story music made my day
So happy you noticed that ✊🏻 Nostalgic. Good old days of grinding.
Love this
Thank you 🙏
Have you used nyc cnc excel quoting sheet it has helped me alot, that plus titans of cnc quoting video
The Titans of CNC video helped me a lot. What I hope this series can do is add to the content in a different way. Taking a part all the way through the process and in the end discuss the actual numbers
Nice ,might do something similar
Love the tool setting ! That’s exactly how I do it Great video!
Thanks Brotha!
Hello.. I think quoting the parts before production is impossible, If you work with very special/ uniqe parts. Prep the work and see approx. how much time and work it will take.. Put out a "it will cost approx XX. with a deviation of +/- XX. Then you can say that ! if all goes as plans, the price will be as expected, If it reqires more, you will have a roof of how much extra it could cost. In this quote, its important that all "issues" will be on you. Where reworking cost will not affect the customer.
Its a good way to start, and after one parts, you will know how much it will cost :) And approx how much you will loose from reworking issues.
@@williamwestonnI appreciate the comment! Please like and subscribe if you haven’t already 👊💯
What about tooling cost?
If the part requires special tooling absolutely build that into your NRE. Standard end mills, drills, etc. I don’t add that into the price because I believe that should come with the service we are providing and built into our shops hourly rate. If your quoting a production job that is going to go through inserts or maybe a rougher end mill then you should consider building that into the cost as well. I would really recommend figuring out what that price would look like and capture it in the NRE.
Very informative Alex. I like your approach.
Thanks brotha 🫶

Very nice, love to see you make more videos!
So how do you hold it to hit with the opposite side? The finger reliefs will be in the palm of your hand.
That mill turn is sweet, great setup and programming btw. Wish this was made from Ti instead of aluminum
Nice work! Always cool to see different methods to achieve great results!👏👏
Well Machined! Love to see it :)
Mesmerizing
Great video, bud. Even the music didnt bother me, which is rare 😂
Dang, that was sweet
Damn that’s NEXT level bud! Machining was super satisfying to watch!
Loved the video Alex! You are the first I’ve seen complete the TITAN-HT using a lathe 🤌😊
Those turned out great I think the kids will love them .
Good work, bud.
