The young possum was pretty nervous of the father but male Brushtail Possums are very gentle and docile towards young possums and female possums, therefor the young one doesn't have to be scared.

The temperature gauge on the camera is not working. In the summer its usually 15 to 19 degrees Celsius at night here in the Blue Mountains.

You are the second person who mentioned they love sweet potato...and still I have not given them any but this week I'm definitely going to give them some. Many thanks again.

Wish I knew😄 We have many nest boxes in our garden and yet some possums are still living in the roof. Only one nest box is permanently taken by a female and her Joey, the rest are occupied now and then. They however do not bother us living in the roof we only feel sorry for them on hot days.

There are 2 possum babies here at the moment. The one in the video who needs rescue (named Yoda) is the younger one. Yoda left the mothers pouch 4 weeks ago. The older baby can be seen at 03:00. The older baby left his/her mothers pouch 2 months ago and is still riding on the mothers back often😄

Not sure if the baby is still nursing but she/he is eating solid food now. The baby is eating well, growing fast and is extremely well coordinated for it's age.

That's a Ringtail Possum. I never knew we had them in our area, we saw them for the first time when we put the trail cams in the garden around 2 years ago.

Yes, male Evander is a funny character😄 I have noticed male Brushtail Possums are very nice and accommodating towards the female possums but the female possums are very aggressive. I feed them kale, apple, pear and banana at the moment.

@@possumcapers It's exactly the same in Canada. Although the male Virginia Opossums (the only species we have here) are about 20% bigger than the females, the males always defer to the females. The females are not exactly "aggressive", but the slightest dirty look from a female is usually enough to cause the male to scurry away. Interesting that you feed yours kale, that's our preferred veggie for our backyard opossums because of its high calcium content. Other foods that are appropriate for and appreciated by our neighborhood opossums include grapes, strawberries, sliced sweet potato, and dry cat food. Virginia opossums are omnivores.

@@michaelmoore2487 The Virginia Opossums are fascinating looking, when the female carry all her young on her back it's quite a sight. I assume the reason why the males are so very nice towards the females is a survival tactic because the females are the ones who bear and raise the young. I also give the possums in my garden grapes during the winter. I haven't tried strawberries and sweet potato yet...so I will try those very soon😀

Yes, its the same mother and baby pair from before. I know all the possums in the videos pretty well. The father of this baby is Evander, the male with the tip of the right ear missing (the male in the video "Male Brushtail Possum Waits Patiently").

The possum at 3:40 is called a Ringtail Possum, they are a different species. The possums with the hairy tails are Brushtail Possums🙂

Mommy has a new baby (joey) in her pouch. Chasing her young Pandy away is just her way to tell Pandy she has to be independent now. Mommy is quite aggressive towards all the possums, it's just her way of protecting her new joey now.

Thank you, we absolutely love the possums in our garden and they have been delighting us since we moved to this house 13 years ago. The story about wobbly possum is very sad, I just hope the possums here will never get this awful disease. We always contact WIRES for any sick or injured wildlife. Yes, the food certainly attracts rats and mice but they seem to come and go. Sometimes there are a lot of them and then they just disappear for some time. Maybe there are a lot of predatory birds around in my area like the owl we saw. As for the Ringtail Possums, as I've mentioned we've been living here for 13 years but we've only noticed them about a year ago for the first time when we installed the night trail-cam. Yes, the bird at 01:11 is a female Butcher Bird.

Maybe when the possum is very small the owl might try to catch it but at the moment the young "baby" possum we have in the garden is to big to catch for the owl. I think the owl was there, trying to catch bush mice and rats.
