MaestroDMX Tips/Tricks - MIDI control using TouchOSC on Android
TouchOSC is $11.99 on the Google Play store - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hexler.lex&hl=en&gl=US
TouchOSC allows you to create a virtual MIDI deck that can send MIDI data over a usb cable connected to your Android device.
TouchOSC is also available on Apple iOS however you will need to use a separate pair of USB Midi devices connected to your Apple device and to Maestro in order to send midi data over to Maestro. This will NOT work with just the USB cord on Apple devices.
Here is my TouchOSC file that can be imported to create all of the MIDI buttons you see in my video:

Thank you so much for this guide! I’m completely new to Maestro and your video has helped me so much!! Amazing!!!
Can you do a video on how you use the Maestro with capture? I want to do the same emulation to learn more about fixture profiles and how to better use the device. Thanks.
Should be this video: th-cam.com/video/g-zkHfot5Pg/w-d-xo.html
was realy struggling with these moving heads, as in them beeing all over the place. To be honest i might have to get better fixture profiles as wel. but am seriously gonna try this at our gig tonight.
I didn't get it to much numbers .
Do you have a complete tutorial on MDMX? Do you find this better town Soundswitch? Not easier, an overall better result?
What's the advantage between 1d and 2d?
Wow what great information. Thank you!!
Solved my problem - very good instructional video :)
Thanks!
I'd really like to see some straight EDM song demos with the setup prior if it's possible? EX songs: 1. Excision - Titans 2. Crankdat - Start Sh*t 3. Crankdat - Groundshake 4. Skrillex - Purple Lamborghini I have 30 lights total. Ranging from gobos-pars-wash-helicopter chauvet etc. Most of the lights are Chauvet, which seemingly helps with setup recognition correct? Thanks in advance! I know you're probably busy, but this really sparked my interest. Being able to have all lights going to the music would be ULTIMATE for shows.
Are those wirelessly connected uplights?
This answered my questions from a previous question! The other one I have regarding midi...would I be able to hook the electronic drum kit with midi to this and assign buttons to the toms/cymbals/kick etc?
I really can't wait to get a Maestro. Recently, the chav. obey 40 is what we used and dear LORD did it take FOREVER to set up the lights for a show. Never ending settings for EACH light and then saving it to a chase/program. Really frustrating. This really provides extra time and less worry during my DJ sets. I'm newer to the DDJ800 board, so learning/practicing that is way more important right now than going through the complexities of a DMX setup...that truly should be as simple as this Unit offers! I've made due with limited programmed lights setup around me only. The dancefloor lights and lights behind me on the curtain/truss are not operated via myself. I'm almost 99.9% sure this is the solution...correct? It's a small venue/mid-sized stage. We are in process of building movable truss's and light mounts. Again, I can't spend time programming lights for every event we have at the venue. Reasoning for mentioning all this is to make sure I'm understanding this product correctly. Fast setup, fast changes, AI controls the show after everything is properly setup. With the ability of some manual adjustments during a show... strobe, blackout, etc?
Can you do a video with my dmx 3.0?
I am an absolute newbie at this and found it extremely useful. I will be using Maestro for our band. It seems like a God send being hands free and creating light shows on the fly. I picked this over Soundswitch and others because of the set it and forget it aspect.
It would be super helpful if Maestro told you what IP address it received on the new WiFi...cause after you move it over, it can be super hard to find again...as the ".local" trick will no longer work!
Have you heard anything on ways to get a Maestro to work with APC MINI?
is capture apart of maestro UI? or is it a seperate program/purchase?
Capture is a separate software that visualizes lighting. The version I am demoing in the video is the free student edition. www.capture.se/
awesome thanks! @@joedeejay9076
What cable are you using for this? Can you just go straight USB C - A? Or do you have to use a midi cable in the middle?
Just a normal usb-c cable on my Pixelbook
@@joedeejay9076 C to A into the Maestro?

@@joedeejay9076 Thank you.
Thank you Joe, you are our go to person to learn Maestro
Nice Setup
Hmm this seems just like a sound switch controller. I recently got one but ive also ordered one of these but now seeing this video i feel like im going to cancel the order for this and stick to my sound switch
I use Soundswitch and this is definitely simpler to use for the aspect that you just need to add your fixtures and you are done. With Soundswitch you still need to either analyze your music with autoscripts or create auto loops to trigger for your songs. Those auto loops are bound to the beatgrid and are static. With maestro the patterns are not bound to the same beatgrid style and are more dynamic changing with each song.
I'm getting my Maestro at end January, your tutorial will be very useful. Many thanks.
That you so much for this! This made these lights AMAZING! I only have 2 and i have them on opposite sides of the stage and use them with a shared DMX for symmetry but breaking them apart made all of the difference! Thank you for taking the time and posting the video!
great!
thank you!
Thanks for this video. It has been so much help. I have these lights as well but I only have 2 of them. Which one of these do I delete or should I delete any of them. I wanted to add my two gig bars as well. That's why I'm asking.
where can we find the new update i only see 1.0 on the portal
Can we use Internet when maestro is connected to external Wi-Fi?
Amazing video thank you
Excellent video - thank you Joe!
Hi, great video! Would I need an artnet license on the dongle or does it come with one?
No license required. the dongle receives DMX input and passes it along to QLC+ (free software). QLC+ then has a feature to merge that DMX input into ArtNet output which can then be used by Capture. You could also purchase a device to convert DMX to ArtNet without the need of the dongle/software. A device like the following would do the trick and would just need to be configured to send ArtNet data to the IP of the PC running capture. www.amazon.com/Pknight-bi-directional-Ethernet-Controller-Interface/dp/B0B1YRTYB7/ref=sr_1_1?m=AZSSLIJDOQNV3&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&qid=1702416139&s=merchant-items&sr=1-1&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18630bbb-fcbb-42f8-9767-857e17e03685
@@joedeejay9076 Thank you so much for this! I hadn't realised you'd replied so sorry for the delayed response, I've just unpacked my maestro recently and am getting into it now. Much appreciated for your advice!
I guess I need a license for capture to get the visualisations setup?
you sound like a person called mdotstrange
Wicked little USB dongle with the screen! What is it and where to get?

Hey, @JoeDeeJay! Thanks for the video - could you kindly share the link to your visualizer (Capture?)
This is using the free Student Edition of Capture 2023. You can download capture from the following link: www.capture.se/Downloads/Download-Capture
@@joedeejay9076 thanks - now I am struggling with connecting it via ArtNet but that's a different issue and I need to resolve it myself. Again thanks for sharing video and link!
I was just looking to see if he added the link
I thought this item was NOT like all the others with all the pre programing ? just as bad as Soundswitch !
I don't see the comparison. I use Soundswitch as well and this is easier.
Fantastic information, and a great idea, separating a single physical fixture into multiple MaestroDMX fixtures to allow more fine-tuned control. Thanks so much, and I hope you'll keep posting more videos about MaestroDMX (because I'm lost & clueless)!
Thank you for sharing your custom fixture profile. Do you have the original fixture profile? If you do, do you mind sharing it with me? Could you email it to me? Thanks.
Just bought 4 😂
Super helpful. Couple of questions. 1. Have you loaded a profile for the pixel bars in your video as I have 4 of those also. 2. Why add fixtures as individual instead of pairs? 3. When adding as individual fixtures, will they still mirror each other?
I just got mine delivered its really confusing Need a tutorial how to link it with lights
Created a tutorial for adding moving heads - th-cam.com/video/lF8lR_UEktY/w-d-xo.html
A tutorial about how to add ridgeyard 230 beams fixture would be great
I just purchased the LaluceNatz 40 light bars...... are they in the venue list? or will I need to create them? I love your set up and it is much like mine. Looking forward to utilizing the Sound Switch through my Denon Prime 4!
Was this all auto script with no editing?
Bro having the hardest time setting these up to the right channel and finding the product in sound switch
Could you help me?
