How I created a Hydrogen Alpha Solar telescope
มุมมอง 1.9K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
I am fortunate to have two great solar telescopes. But to get more aperture in hydrogen alpha, I either had to spend $$$ for another refractor I really didn't need, or build my own using an existing scope. Very useful, Mark. It's interesting the number of variations one sees from different imagers on how they tweak the tone curve. Yours is fairly simple and straightforward. Thank you for generously sharing. Do you have a template for FDs, looking at the image over your left shoulder, it favours inverted disc, normal proms.

      One other question, have you come across a Quark that produces what could be described as a hot spot about mid sensor - noticeable when stretching the proms? It's not noticeable on the disc, not aperture/scope related.

    Phenomenal images Mark. Very impresive building that setup but as you said I am not sure many will attempt to build a double stack. I would be afraid to buy the new Lunt only to take it apart, however, your over all price is cheaper than if you purchased the already made system since you already had the Tec. The main reason I went with a quark was I already had a perfectly good scope. Cheers

    Thanks so much for sharing your amazing images, process and expertise. From time to time you use the word "seeing" in a technical sense I think e.g - "the sun's seeing changes". In this context does "seeing" mean the same as "visibility" or does it have a different meaning?

    • @AZASTROGUY
      @AZASTROGUY 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Seeing is an astronomical term that describes how steady the air is above you. There can be zero clouds but wind, jet stream etc can cause light to be refracted randomly, blurring images. That’s one reason they put observatorys on mountains

    Crisp and sharp solar discs. How about normal halpha discs, not inverted ones?

    • @AZASTROGUY
      @AZASTROGUY 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ah, the solar imagers dilemma. Process normal or inverted? I've polled thousands of people on social media, and the decisive majority prefer the look and contrast an inverted image provides. But 'normal' looks more natural, and that look is preferred by some. I process all of my sunspot close up in normal non-inverted, and most of my limb with prom images inverted, with a few exceptions. Sort of a Coke/Pepsi preference situation.

I got a Coronado PST second hand at a very good price and similar results to the Lunt, though its less suited to imaging so you have to work a bit harder.
