Where Does Sossusvlei Get It's Sand?
Sossusvlei, the famous landmark in Namibia's Namib Desert, sits in a fast, fast sand sea. In this video, I explain where this sand comes from.

How Computers Handle Negatives - Two's Compliment
มุมมอง 2332 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I explore how computers handle negative numbers when all they have are ones and zeros. I am working to deepen my own understanding of pointers in C as part of my efforts to write a C compiler and explore how computers work. It's simply a hobby as I work as a Python developer, far from the low-level code that I explore in my free time. More videos on this topic (not mine): - th-ca...

First of all I didn't see the difference between Namib and Kalahari !
@@etherospike3936 there is an enormous difference. A theme for future videos, perhaps.
The answer to the question is quite interesting. Been doing research on this for close to 40 years.
@@desertchild3550 oh, wow, that's amazing!
Care to share some links?
Great Story and welcome home ;) Where abouts are you?, if you in London, we can have a cup of tea, me between Lewisham & Southwark :)
@@Programeris I'm not in London, but thank you for the offer
thanks for sharing 😍
I aspire to learn a second language well enough to give an essay on a cool topic. Great job!
@@E5PY it's a wonderful goal. It takes a lot of time, but it's so worthwhile.
You are an inspiration Sir 🫡
@@vikasalvastudent that's a wonderful comment, thank you.
Some basic physics about weather and the water cycle on a global scale I wasnt familiar with, thanks.
@@Marc83Aus wonderful. My physics knowledge is very basic, so do check up stuff, but I'm glad you learned a bit!
4:00 i mean... atoms and molecules are themselves made up of stuff. Not to mention the entire world of bosons and forces, with or without the inclusion of atoms and molecules. It's a day to day part of life. And why even group atoms and molecules together? They are two different things at two different levels of abstraction. Great video so far, and especially great dictation, was just peaked by this point
Yeah, you're right. It is a simplification, of course.
Ah yes, in order to understand how deserts are formed, one must also be well acquainted with bosons, quarks and of course string theory.
@@somika87 yes, to understand deserts you have to know about elementary particles. To actively avoid including sunlight and gravity in your understanding, both bosonic forces, would be to misunderstand deserts. You can do it that way, but from my perspective it is peculiar and unintuitive, lacking of some of the most integral and basic desert knowledge. It might also be worth it to point out that the elementary physics stuff is surprisingly parsimonious, given its level of complexity. The higher levels of complexity become more complicated, but I mean shit there are only 4 fundamental forces and a tiny few characteristics they can even have, like mass/energy, spin, charge.
@@somika87 😀
you seem to have a gift for explaining things in simple terms. keep going!
Thank you!
Imagine being deserted in the desert with but a dessert
I have indeed had wonderful desserts in the desert many times. A good ice-cream makes a good one in a hot desert. 😊
Hey, u have a email, wanted to contact you for a collaboration!
There is the _Easy Languages_ channel, which might (or might not) have lot of videos in your target language. The videos might be a bit too advanced for the stone-cold beginner but they might be good for a beginner with a bit of background.
This is good advice, and basically what I did with Icelandic, except that there isn't too much content on TH-cam. Luckily, Iceland's national broadcasting service (RÚV) is very good, and has lots of content. I still regularly listen to Icelandic radio every morning, and frequently also listen to audiobooks.
@@coryjorgensen622 wow, that's a very cool language to learn!!!
good stuff
@@aristomenissyriopoulos7896 thank you!
Thanks for sharing. I been wondering what someone sounds like after studying with dreaming spanish. But also you've been studying for quite sometime. But still I appreciate you sharing. But i think your spanish is pretty good though. Seems like you're putting your sentences together well. I'm only at level 3 so I have a ways to go. But thanks for encouraging me.❤❤😊😊
@@simmayu3279 yeah. I feel like I've improved a lot since this video, so I will do more updates. Good luck in your journey. I feel like it becomes more and more fun.
I'm really enjoying your videos mate and it's inspiring to hear you trying all these new things
Thank you! Your comment made my day! I think life's more enjoyable if we give ourselves a push and discover what we can do.
If you're willing to share, what did you use to create the animations? I really like them
Ah, I'm so glad you liked them. To be honest, I'm still trying all sorts of experiments to get animations working, and this was done with Pygame.
@@sandcurves Oh, that's cool to know. Python's my native language (hence the need for low-level knowledge supplements), so that makes me want to try out something similar as well
@@yelircaasi Same. Python is what I use for work. I don't think Python is the best way to do animations, but it's fun and a challenge.
this style of video is the first one which properly made me understand pointers so thank you

In C, you can directly use characters as equivalent to ascii code. For instance, you can use `c >= '0' && c <= '9'` to check for a character to be digits. This makes it easier to understand and maintain too :D By the way, I would recommend looking into the `ctype.h` header which as many utilitary functions to check characters types
Wow! Amazing amazing story! Congratulations! I was a software developer myself. I also changed country, but I was 24 at that time. Doing it at 48 years young is a whole new level! Hats off to you!

Where's #1? I see #2, which is the file opening episode... Edit: the Thorsten Ball books on writing an interpreter/compiler in Go are highly recommended if the dragon/Nystrom books aren't your jam.
Ah, thank you. I fixed it. #2 will come this weekend and hopefully it will be a little better.
dude where´d you get that wallpaper?
I have no idea. If you're talking about my Mac, I think I just googled "Dark world map" or something along those lines.
Recently, I've fallen in love with you. I'm really glad you're on TH-cam, and that I found you!
Thank you
wonderful!
Thank you. I just finished my first book in Spanish, which is a good feeling. Another milestone!!
Very cool story and congrats on the drastic career change. What sort of talks did you do for the Namibian python groups back then?
Thank you. I always gave talks or workshops to help total beginners get started. So, nothing interesting, but I always felt that, as an experienced guide, I had the ability to teach hard things in simple ways. And, honestly, I just love seeing people experience the joy of the feeling of making stuff for the first time.
Rooting for you on your programming journey!! I am a Computer Science Student, hope we could do some projects in the future.
Ah, good luck on your programming journey. Always remember that you're basically solving puzzles and keep it fun.
software developer here..... how do i become a desert guide?
Get a visa work visa to live in a desert area that tourist actually visit, learn more than most guides know, and apply for jobs. And, if that's really something you'd like to do, there are many, many other things to do, including preparing yourself for a salary 1/10 what you're earning now. But, it is an amazing job, especially if you love deserts and love people.
Beautiful story. So proud of you buddy.
Thank you!!!
