Folk On Foot
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 มิ.ย. 2018
Welcome to Folk on Foot, the award winning podcast that brings together the three passions of the broadcaster Matthew Bannister - folk music, walking and telling stories in sound. Many of the UK’s top folk artists have walked, talked, played and sung with us in spectacular locations ranging from mountain tops to remote white sand beaches and from a disused brick factory near Sheffield to a Sussex wood in the middle of the night. We have captured the sounds of the natural world: curlews circling overhead, waves crashing on the shore, rivers burbling under bridges, campfires crackling and above all feet tramping through all kinds of terrain. And the music takes on a new power when you hear it performed in the places that inspired it.

A Shropshire Christmas with John Kirkpatrick
Ho Ho Ho! Enjoy traditional Christmas carols, midwinter Morris dancing, a peal of bells and a recipe for Christmas pudding set to music as we head for the Three Tuns pub in Bishop’s Castle with squeezebox maestro John Kirkpatrick MBE, the Castle Carollers and the Shropshire Bedlams.
Along the way we’ll discover the story behind ancient winter customs like wassailing and find out why John is so passionate about the festive season.

Delve into the history of madness as we walk with the “broken folk” duo Lunatraktors in the 200-acre grounds of the Bethlem Royal Hospital in South London. Clair le Couteur and Carli Jefferson are fascinated by the story of the hospital, which was founded in the 13th century by monks - and nicknamed “Bedlam”. They perform songs inspired by the place including a mash up of “Tom O’Bedlam” with “M...

What a lovely TH-cam video find as I look forward to getting back to Ludlow for Christmas after working away from the beloved hills of Shropshire. Is Bishop's Castle's Three Tuns stout superior to that from Ludlow Brewery? Hmm. I better not say! Merry Christmas!
Brilliant show again. ❤
What
:)
Thanks Steve Wonderfull memories of the Minack on a sunny afternoon a couple of years ago
I personally don't think we leave, i believe our conscious souls are here if we're needed by loved ones. I've been touched and guided still by my since past family members , tell me why i know that True Love Never Dies I was told this long ago
❤👏👏👏
What sounds sad to us humans may be a happy sound to those birds. We tend to make everything about us and that's why some animals get a bad name and are persecuted.
First word comes to mind,acid
CURIOUS FROM THE BACK WOODS OF WEST VIRGINIA 🌲 WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOIN ?? ARE YOU DRESSING FOR A PARTY ? OR IS THIS PERTAINING TO THE STAR PEOPLE OF AFRICA ? GREAT WORK EITHER WAY , WELL DONE !!
I saw Martin in the early 90s and was entranced......it saddens me he is playing for just a handful of people here.....our society does not recognize true talent anymore....
Eeeek! A deep and wonderful day of contemplation. Thanks so much for sharing that time together.🥰
Wondrous mad!❤️
hold the "wondrous" Narcissism sprang to mind. They don't even produce music. Believe me I listen to anything and everything, and this is just Random noises made by Random people who Think they are on a "Higher Level" in fact they are just desperate. "We are Sooo Different". Actually you are just Boring "Lets grab a whole load of "On Trend, "Alternative" BS and parade it like kids in a playgroup " I am non binary" Yawn, that is Soo Passe Dahling! No one gives a F? . "I do Overtone singing" Yeah you and another million "New Agers" The Stonehenge protest made me Cringe. It is people like You that get serious ecologists and protesters a Bad name? There is something very insulting about all of this. Mental health is not the latest "Alternative " fashion, it is something people live with 24/7. To hear Teedlediumb and Tweedledumber reduce everything to this level was painful. It was Crass, ignorant, rude and insensitive. And where did music come into it? Folk or anything else? I will admit I gave up, so maybe They do sing something at some point.
Purple trousers is causing the mesmeric music.....😃
Where is this bridge?🤔
If you went from the chemical factories to the bucolic countryside....then it was the road to Heaven!!😇

I want one for every room in my house. My house will be one big chord.
Lovely moments captured. Here but not there. A bird flies by…..
Gwylym cofio Hendrick!
I never tire of pressing “play again” on this. Bliss.
The guitar+ mandolin combo is great but i also do love the bouzouki+ mandolin combo from some earlier arrangements. As a bouzouki/mandolin/violin player myself (though very much a poor one),, its great to hear them come together this way.
I loved this folk song. This version sounds like it’s playing on a gramophone! I love it. Thank you for sharing this cute folk song! ☺️
I traveled from Brazil to England and had the opportunity to include Tanworth in my itinerary because of Nick and it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. I really want to go back!
BLOODY HELL.... TALK ABOUT TAKING YOUR FANDOM TO THE BLOODY EXTREME.....FOR FUCKS SAKE LEAVE THE POOR GUYS GRAVE ALONE....OH, AND GET A FUCKING LIFE YOU STUPID GEEKS.
Inspiring stuff!
Congratulations on this channel/podcast. I hope you’ll broaden the musical output from more trad folk to the outer limits of contemporary folk, both in the UK and elsewhere. From the States Sarah Jarosz, I’m With Her, Nickel Creek, Chris Thile and others. From the UK is more difficult imo but borders on a genre you may not feel comfortable with
Bella, you may not remember me. I was the strange guy who lived in a tent at Fieldhead for five months in 1994. Too long to be a visitor, and not long enough to achieve the status of resident! You sang in the choir at my wedding in1998. I have fond memories of Edale, both the place and the people. Thank you for reminding me of happy times. Congratulations on your successful career, and best wishes to you and your family. Colin.
Brilliant! Inspiring!
It seems to me (as a native Lancastrian) that Cornwall is the North of the South. Maybe it’s the distance from the contamination of the Capital.
Incredible guitarist. If you haven't heard it, check out Fair Annie... from his Bramble Briar album
This is so inspiring thank you
What does it say on the bench behind you ?
Amazing
Rip legend you will always remain in my heart my inspiration
Love singing.. video❤😢
This take on Deportee brings tears to my eyes.
Selmer Twin 30 under the Vox - I have the same one
Awesome John! Straight to the Heart! Expect nothing less.... You're a good cat!
Quite good for wiping your bum in the wild too 😅
very cool! thank you ❤
Can you drink em?
don't believe they're toxic in any way
Its what the ancient Brits used after fighting Romans, on wounds and cuts.
tell your royal family it’s time to give the north back to ireland please
@BrendanSmith-cw4dn you would be better off observing what is happening in Irish cities under your own, current rule
@@npclap i’m from the states. how about you fund your military with more than tea and biscuits so you can do more than a month of fighting if we need your support in a large conflict. uk is a fake global power in this era and a paper tiger
@@BrendanSmith-cw4dn It's the North that did not want the south 🙄 Little to do with the King and England. Irish bigots need to get together that is all.
I love nature
I know. A lot about consett and I'm pretty sure when I took a history walk for the Consett steelworks. Apparently, there are only 2 left.I've seen one of them near tescos extra :D
Magic stuff ! Awesome !!!!
Essential.
Enjoyed the set at Shambala.
Oh my gosh that was fun!
He left the world fifty years ago now, in indifference. But he gave us a handfull of songs that will accompany all our lifes.
