I’m on disability and can’t get a 9 to 5 job so my local food pantry told me that I can volunteer and they would pay me in gift cards that they get from the other volunteers who donate. I hope this actually works because then I would be able to go to Walmart and get a little bit of cash in my pocket.

This is called manufactured spending. Not necessarily illegal (I don’t think) but definitely a HUGE taboo. People do this to spend money on their credit cards for the rewards and just deposit the cash in their bank account and pay off their credit card in full. So let’s say you get 3% cash back and get a 10,000 money order or (whatever your credit limit is) and then deposit your money into your bank and pay off your credit card balance with no interest. Boom 300 dollars of cash back rewards for free. If your credit card company catches wind of this they will terminate your account, and allegedly black list you.

This does work, I’ve done it dozens of times.. it’s annoying though please just give cash on Christmas thanks

Just buy a store gift card for a store you know you'll be going to. Or a gas station gift card. You dont have to worry about being over or under because you can hold it for next time and pay the overage with another payment. You also dont have to worry about the fees in case you hold the Visa gift card for too long.
