How to use the Andis deshedding rake ( I’m using the fine tooth rake here - but can use the normal tooth one - less teeth but same shape - for really overgrown long coats ) - super easy way to save your fingers for later handstripping and detailing ; works great in most setter coats and will not cut the coat but nicely pull the dead / loose hairs out

How Andis fine tooth deshedding tool ( rake ) works wonders on setter ( and other breeds : golden retriever , spaniels ) coat - especially good for softer more woolly coats Currently not available in U.K. but you can find them in USA / Canada … not sure about Europe … if you can get hold one - please do - can’t recommend it highly enough

Hi, enjoy your videos, the work you do with your Gordon is the most instructive thing I can find for my Irish Setters. Is there a mixture for the jojoba oil with water or should I use it on its own. I'm working with a male Irish Setter who is showing some dry hair etc from neuter he is 3 years old. Also how often do you replace your carding knives and coat king, I've been using both for about 5 months now. - thanks
@@PatrickWalsh-Burnfort-1875 thank you for your lovely comments I use it neat but it can be mixed and sprayed on the coat ( it does absorb well into coat and skin and washes out easily too ) I don’t replace my Andis rakes and the stripping stone tip tools do need replacing as they can loose their grip Hope this helps
@@beaellerbeck8863 Hi thanks for the info on jojoba oil, it seems to improve the quality of the neuter coat in my Irish. Is it ok to leave in or does it need to be washed out ? Also I have a Mars Coat King, is there a difference in the Coat King and the Andis deshedding rake ?
@@PatrickWalsh-Burnfort-1875 great news pleased to hear it’s helping - coat king has different shape teeth and sharper so can sit the coat more rather than pull - Andis is a tool to use for me
24:53 18:22 18:48 my favorite parts from the video
Thank you for this. ❤
Which brushes - rakers would you recommend for a springer spaniel puppy? Or it is possible to use the just raker for home use to minimise the hair sheding?
Going to try this out now! Thanks for the video!
Bea, thank you for sharing all the tips. Can I use Andis fine tooth deshedding tool on english setter?
Yes of course you can … and also I reckoned to get the normal Andis deshedding tool - that can work sometimes better than the fine tooth one ☝️
Like ❤❤❤❤
Always love your videos ❤ Do you recommend any supplements to help with dry coat?
Please consider a full scissor trim for a working cocker spaniel
I have done it - you just scissor off the feathers , that’s all 😀
Why do you brush him while he is wet?
That’s a DoggyMan soft slicker medium …. But since then I found better : Chris Christensen medium size Big K slicker - worth every penny
Excellent tutorial as always. My working cocker spaniels tail was seriously too long so I trimmed with a blender on Sunday also, a tidy - up on the paws.
Thank you
Excellent work. Easier said than done. This could be applied to a working cocker spaniel as well I guess.
Yes of course - any feathered foot … spaniels are much easier though
Excellent work as always. I wish you were up in Scotland to trim my working cocker spaniels. How many teeth are on your blenders used for upper paws.
Thank you I don’t know how many teeth but they are Samurai Pro Classic 5.5’ thinners and straight
Good grief
what lovely boy.
Thank you for the upload please tell me what type of scissors I need for my Irish red setters thanks
Thank you very much for the video. I have a gordon setter show dog. I have difficulty with handstripping his body...it is a little bit long and wavy...
I hope this video helps or - or there are others I made before

Thank you
Hi Bea! Thank you for your videos it helps me a lot with my Gordon setter! :) Woudl you mind giving me the name of the brush you are using to deshade your dog ? Thank you ;)
You’re welcome - it’s Andis fine tooth deshedding tool
He looks like he understands and is saying “go easy on me”😂😂😂
He literally understands everything that boy 😀 smartest dog I ever knew ! He didn’t like the cold table and that he wasn’t laying by down for this groom ( which he often does coz he’s too lazy to stand 🤣 as the mat wasn’t on the table )
What kind of rake would you recommend for an Irish red setter please thanks
I use the same on Irish setter too
I'd just groomed my Cocker Spaniels and thought I'd done a pretty good job. Lol then I saw your video, wow! game changer, I got another hand full after using the rubber band comb. Thanks so much Bea 😀
Thank you so much x I’m pleased to hear I can help 😃🙏🏻
You can also try Andis fine tooth deshedding rake - you will get even more out of
Thanks I'll look into it 😊
Hello. I just saw your videos. I am going to be gordons mom next year and i was wondering can you do some video where you can show what grooming tools are needed? :) i want to be prepared and because we dont have any good groomers near us so i have to do all the job myself but i dont have any tools ☺️
Does this tool cut the coat or pull the dead hair? I have a 8 month old English Cocker Spaniel puppy. He hasn’t been groomed at all yet. So I’m deciding how to groom.
No it does not cut the coat at all - it’s fantastic just pulls hair …
Going to try this treatment on the Gordons living in Arizona. Need coat growth and les shedding. This looks like it is worth a try for a few months!
I'm sending this to my groomer so he can finally learn how to trim Cascade's Irish ears. thank you!
Thank you for the video Bea. Im learning a lot! What are the little blue thumb things you have? X
Thank you 🙏🏻 they are rubber finger tips … grooming shops sell them or Amazon too
They help to grip the hair for stripping

So helpful! Thank you for sharing. Love your videos.
You’re welcome and thank you for watching
salmon oil is amazing! i just wanna point out careful shoving the dog forward you dont have a wall there what if he fell off the table, but awesome trick for the leg holding i will defiantly use that
He won’t fall off he knows this table well as he is my own boy but clients dogs get a belly strap sometimes just in case
@@beaellerbeck8863 i wasn't sure if he was yours or not, my biggest fear! beautiful Neo, love your videos!
you have the best blowdrying technique
Thank you
im not sure why he particularly 'needs' his feathers is he a show doggie
Because he is feathered breed and I like them in him - plus I teach so I need a model ; my old girl Is shaved off for easiness - but he doesn’t need to have them taken off yet
id imagine this being painful maybe get a mat splitter? holding up the knot you can see his skin pulling that would hurt even on someones head let alone my whole body
@@emilypalmer1244 no it’s not painful and say spliter is basically cutting hair - not acceptable for show coats
i found that this way of bathing works best also ive been doing it for a few years now and thought i was a genius lol i guess great minds think alike!! neo is beautiful
what do you do about the matting??
Thank you
@@emilypalmer1244 checking his coat weekly - gentle brush if I can if not bath and condition well - Chris Christensen Big K medium brush works wonders for setter mats
My old girl (13) thanks you. I take care of her grooming now so thank you 😊
My pleasure ! I love the oldies - my old girl Shelby ( in the couple of the first videos I made ) is 12.5 😀
This looks like a garage horror story. Your Gordon looks petrified and should be the star of the show and not you! The body language [tucked tail and head down] says it all.
I have recently found your videos and they are so helpful, thank you. I have a very thick coated two year old show spaniel with lots of fine fluffy hair as well as longer, finer hair and I would like to learn how to groom him myself, preferably stripping rather than clipping. Could you please recommend a basic set of tools - there seem to be so many variations and it is difficult to know which would be best. Thank you.
Thank you - Andis fine tooth deshedding tool is brilliant! It will get rid of the bulk of the coat and then just fine tune with hand stripping ( rubber tip fingers )
@@beaellerbeck8863
@@beaellerbeck8863 Thank you for your advice. I managed to fine the Andis fine tooth deshedding tool on a UK site. It was expensive but worth every penny! My spaniel now has a finer coat.
Your videos are excellent! Thank you!
Thank you so much
Sulli has a dry coat on his back with dry skin cant you advice why this is? thanks
Dry skin is easily fixed with feeding omega oils - I prefer flaxseed / borage oil mix of good quality rather than salmon oil - feeding about a 1.5-2 teaspoons a day , every day (what added in the dog food is not enough )
@@beaellerbeck8863 Thank you , I am nervous taking Sulli for a groom as he is a Red Stetter. So thank you for your help.
Hi. I have 2 springer spaniels! can you please show where to purchase silky smooth shampoo you used. Was recommended Mars king 20 blade coat rake, is this the same you used? Many many thanks for your help 😊
Hi … you can buy MD10 silky smooth shampoo and conditioner here : md10shop.eu They ship worldwide … and also check out the videos on how I use this range for show results I don’t use coat king … best is Andis fine tooth deshedding rake ( or tool ) available in USA / Canada
Do you think these are more effective than furminators? I tried one on my setter today, and it didn't take out very much undercoat, even though she's shedding loads.
Furminator can shred the coat on a setter so I wouldn’t use it … I can’t see the coat your dog has but sometimes tools don’t work on some damaged / sparse and fine coat so you might have to just hand strip with your fingers … possibly reconsider the diet if you are getting constant excessive shedding
@@beaellerbeck8863 good to know thanks. Do you think the and is deshedder would possibly work better on her?
Maybe try the Aaronco Magna carder stripping knife and use it to rake the coat out … but if the coat is very fine - tools won’t take it out - you need to use fingers for stripping. Or possibly a stripping stone ( you can rake with it too ) - my favourite one is Dezynadog stripping stone
Hi there! I love your videos. I also have an English Setter. I'm in Chicago. Do you have any English Setters you can use in videos? Do you think the Gordon and the English are about the same in grooming? Are there any key differences? Thank you so so much for sharing these videos. Sometimes I just watch them with my afternoon coffee because the dogs are so cute and it's relaxing!
Hi 👋 thank you so much for watching .. sadly no English setter to work on as they pretty rare in England ( I know , right ?!? 😯😳) but I would use the same technique as with Gordon’s … they can be so individual in their coats too … on English you will have less or no feathers on the lower thigh ( or second thigh - below knee ; on the outside of the leg ) only and I would imagine they are much less work … but maintaining the topcoat and feathers would be more less the same … hope this helps
Hi, thanks for the video. We have English Setters for over 20 years and have found Andis products to be very good and reasonably priced. Like you I can’t find this rake in the UK, and buying from the USA becomes a bit expensive. What do you think of a Mars coat king as an alternative? Looking forward to the next instalment.
Aw pup crying. It actually looks as if it would be a painful process for them
It is not painful at all … cockers are known to be quite vocal dogs anyways
Grate video. Thanks!
I appreciate this demonstration! I just got the andis tool to use with my working cocker spaniel. He has neuter coat, that has been shaved before, but I’m hoping that using different processes and tools will help his coat deal more comfortable and look a bit better. After seeing what the fur the rake pulled out looks like, I think that dead coat may be part of the problem for him for sure.
Hello Bea, thank you for this very intesting and informative video! I just happened to find your video as I was looking for videos on how to groom my own Cocker Spaniel at home without shaving off his hair. Your video is very constructive and very different from all others out there where the groomers all clip the dogs!!! My Cocker Spaniel is 6 years old and had been shaved off just before I adopted him 5 years ago. I have kept taking him to the same groomer about 3 times a year, and yes, she has clipped him short all this time. The last time I took him there, well, she cut his ears so short, I was very upset, because the long ears are what makes a Cocker Spaniel, a Cocker, right!!! So, after that last upsetting visit, I promised myself, and my boy Cooper, that I would, from now on, try to groom him myself. However, I realize that we are not all born to be professional dog groomers... He is an American Cocker and, I guess all that clippiing since he was a puppy has now made his hair thick and curly... it has been three months since the last grooming episode at the salon, so now I am faced with the new experience of trying to groom him myself without making things worse... Do you have any suggestions or advice for a newbie like me on how to make it a positive situation??? as it is now, Cooper looks more like a little Panda Bear (he is black and white) and he looks rather messy. So, where do I start??? I have already taken tips for the head as shown in the video, but how about the rest??? Do you have another video where you do a whole body grooming for a Cocker Spaniel? Any advice will help me! thank you so much! Christine (from Canada).
Спасибо большое за видео,все подробно и понятно показываете!
