Also check out Fürenalp next time you visit Engelberg. We had a family wedding there in 2015 with 20+ family members from the U.S. It was gorgeous - cows and all!

We love Fürenalp for the incredible views! We have not done that hike down, but have a Swiss friend who hikes up quite often (he also ran races up on several mountains)! Unfortunately we are not local - we live in the U.S. We do try to visit Switzerland at least once or twice a year for a month at a time. Engelberg has been our “home” since our first visit in 2001, but we travel all around via SSB!

However, with my kids, we took short breaks, and it took us 3 hours to reach the top. Below are a few tips and recommendations from our side that might help you: ▫️ The return journey from Harder Kulm to Interlaken West is mostly through the woods. We recommend going towards Interlaken Ost. ▫️Many tourists take the funicular to Harder Kulm with a one-way ticket and hike back down to Interlaken Ost. The official map indicates a descent time of 1 hour and 10 minutes, but it can typically be done in less than 2 hours.
