The seeds look like coffee beans. Plant them in any potting soil. I use a mix of course sand, peat, and fine pine bark. The seed goes through a dormant cycle and germinate in the spring.

Beautiful !!
That critter that you said you weren't sure what it was looks like it might be a carpenter bee.
Beautiful!
What is the spacing on your whiz heads? How's your coverage?
@joerichmond98 10ft on center. The dynamic water pressure is approximately 35psi with 10 heads operatoring at once. Excellent coverage
Hes Amazing!😊
Wow this is so awesome!! You are right that the plant dies after flowering. It was mistaken that that process happened after 100 years which is why they were given the common name century plant!
Hello , will they root if you just put them in a glass of water ? Thank you .
@@alec1113 No, they need a media that holds water but is yet well drained. 50/50 peat perlite is good
First time for me , will give it a go . Thank you . Much appreciated .
incredible!! Longwood Gardens is so beautiful :)
Designated “Wild and scenic ! “
I would love to have some seedlings to establish in my Woodland garden in Central Massachusetts. Did you use any GA to help them break dormancy faster?
@thomasbennetttommy_mcnasty2020 I let the seed go through its normal stratification. Cold then warm. Seed comes up the second year. Not sure if GA will have an effect. To my knowledge, no research on that species.
Great
Ordered 3 to plant this fall. Looking forward to seeing them

Beautiful creek and trees view and sound. Thank you for video sharing. Like 👍
Thank you! 🌸 I’d love to know if the deer eat your Pinxster Azalea? Would love to see it in full, in its setting. Must be gorgeous against the backdrop of the evergreen.🌲 Have you trimmed this particular specimen? I’m planting one
Deer do not have access to this plant. In the wild, if there are no other options they will eat the succulent stems. All the native Azaleas are worth growing and worth protecting.
Awesome here, thanks for sharing your video. 👍
It's running well with Magnolia 'Maryland' and grandiflora '24 Below' in north Germany, as you can see on our Channel. Thank's for editing and sharing your nice work 🍻 🍻 🍻
Thanks for the information. I will check it out on your channel. Happy gardening in the EU
Poisonous? Edible? Medicinal? Curious, rate of growth vertically, full sun? .. and density of wall shade. Great video. Thumps Up. Thank you Good Sir
The fruit is a favorite of migratory birds. Not sure about human consumption. I wouldn't do it. Not a dermal irritant like poison ivy unless your skin is allergic to everything. Excellent fall foliage
Beautiful spot, one of my favorite places to fly fish
So true Dan, there were many anglers looking to land a prize
Can you do this keeping the woody part? Still green on the inside
Brown wood should still root if you wound th cutting and use either dip and gro or some other product. The best though, firm tissue that is still green. Timing, early fall through winter
Very nice purpurea, I hope to visit the pine barrens in NJ one day. They also contain Drosera Filiformis which I would love to see in the wild
The NJ pine barrens is a botanists dream come true. A must visit for you and all others who can make the trip. The sundews are throughout the bogs.
Can you recommend a nursery that sells these?
absolutely beautiful!!
What color flowers are these? Red fruit to white flower?
Great video!, This is my favourite plant, the colour is amazing and the bees and butterflies love it, mine emerged from the soil a couple of weeks ago, I have them in a big wooden barrel planter
It's all about pollinators, biodiversity and a healthy environment
Great video Steve!
Unusual.
What are the light requirements for rootings? I've heard that the new cuttings should be kept away from intense light until they have produced roots. Do you agree?
All cutting propagation that I do is done in a greenhouse with bottom heat and under intermittent mist. The greenhouse is located in full sun. In the summer months, the bottom heat isn't necessary and I do have a shade cloth providing 30% cover to the cuttings being rooted. If you're propagating under just a humidity dome, then your cuttings need to be shaded nore
@@stevenkristoph6993 Thanks!
Relaxing video
Nice
I have a couple in my back yard (wild). Should i fertilize them? They are looking a luttle sad. They are in the edge of the woods.
Yes, I like organic products. If Hollytone is available in your area, use that.
nice sharing my friend, have a nice day
In February I found one had taken down a 6” tree next to the culvert on Meadowbrook Rd in Robbinsville. Adjacent to an athletic field parking lot yet no body noticed it. Good thing!
it is one of the keystone species. and a host plant to more than 200 native caterpillars here in eastern America. It has a very high ecological value.
Hmmmm....I guess you've heard of Doug Tallamy then
@@stevenkristoph6993 yes!
Can you tell us the new botanical name for cornus? I’ve been searching google but it’s not up to speed yet..
Benthamidia japonica for Japanese Dogwwod, Benthamidia florida for Flowering Dogwood...yuk
😊
very nice plant varieties good information thanks
Camellias are some of my favorite plants. The oliefera and sasanqua varieties which bloom in the fall are also fragrant.
How beautiful 😍
If you're local, go to the Scott Arboretum at Swarthmore....simply to die for
which is more fragrant ? Little Gem or Bracken's Brown Beauty ??
Bracken's in my opinion
❤
👍. I just planted 20 of them!
You will not be disappointed
@@stevenvitali7404 I planted in three different spots, all are coming up so far. Rabbits tried to go after some, but I think they'll live
Those are pretty cool. I’ve never heard of that cultivar. Are they native to the us?
Stewartia ovata is native to the mountainous region in Southern states including Georgia and North Carolina
How old is that patch?
All the plants in the video are in pots. What we call in the nursery trade 4qt containers or true 1gal containers. The plants were potted in the spring from small plugs. Agastache Black Adder grows quickly.
I grew Black Adder and loved it. It got way taller than expected and had to be staked. The insects and hummingbirds loved it too. I moved it to a different location last year. Did not get as tall as the previous year. Looking forward to seeing it bloom in 2024.
No seals in sight?
Only seagulls
Gross but, it looks kind of fun squishing them though! 😄
May I ask what the top layer in the pots is? Is it mulch?
Your looking at rice hulls. It's used for weed suppression.
@@stevenkristoph6993 Thank you!
Just gorgeous!
So glad I came across your video, as I am also growing these from seed. Your plants are gorgeous!Did you use an acidic soil specifically or a regular well draining mix? I’m also wondering about mulch, since I understand they are shallow rooted.
My media is the same for all my nursery stock. 2parts pine bark, 1part sphagnum peat moss and 1/2 part concrete sand. Native Azaleas are popular with my wholesale and retail customers.
@@stevenkristoph6993 Thank you, this is really helpful to know. 😀
@@stevenkristoph6993 I have about seven young plants, roughly three years old, which I forgot to protect from the rabbits in the neighborhood. I checked on them last week and they have all been topped. I’m hoping they recover fully.
Patience! Good luck.
