Commonly called the beaked Stewartia, native to Eastern China

Freshly planted seed of this wonderful native plant has begun to sprout. That's what warm temperatures in the fall will do.
New tree planting on Cook Campus, Rutgers U.

The trees being planted did come from Barton Nurseries. They are all native species. Some shade trees, some ornamental small trees and a few conifers.
Sherman Reservoir

I have kayaked this body of water many times. Some refer to it as the Readsboro Reservoir, including me. A very popular place in the summer months.

It should have never been drained, it was a shallow dam that had an overflow which was in good shape

WOW That's God right there; the plant, the wasps flying around, You - propagating and promoting both, that's God. But people freak out, don't want to hear that, so Good Job. Good job. That's incredible <3
Is it important to have lots of light? I have a daylight basement but there is a deck outside so no direct southern light.
@rangerswife2176 If propagating in the fall or winter when the daylength and sun's intensity are reduced, providing supplemental light would be helpful. Since I have heated greenhouses that receive maximum light, even in winter, I don't need to supplement.
@ ok thanks
Wonderful Steve!
Blastomycosis is a extreme hazard there.

Where do you park since they closed it off?
@RazPerignon There's a small parking area at the end of the road. It can accommodate but 8 or 10 vehicles. Some folks park along the side if there is a bit of a pull-off.
@@stevenkristoph6993 thanks
Fantastic
Can an Edward Goucher plant be trimmed like a Rose Creek abelia?
@The12345condor Since Abelia plants bloom on new wood, Edward Goucher like any other variety, even Rose Creek can be pruned in a similar way
As told to me, Pete McNees was a avid native azalea gardener from the Tuscumbia, AL area. The original scrub grew in his yard and has since died. Several of his azalea friends were fortunate to have gotten cuttings from the original plant before it died.
❤ Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤ Super ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Does the Willow leaf host the spicebush caterpillar like the other spicebush do? 🐛
@@bertexsted3713 Not to my knowledge.
Congratulations. Your patience has paid dividends. 🌱👍🏽
nice, but would not it be better to break the domancy? I am not familiar with this specific seed but most seeds will germinate if you put water, heat, cold, scarring the hard shell untill you reach the inne part/embryo (could be a bit deep depending on the seed) or using a combination of these techniques I know you have many seeds to work on but i am confident that it would not take 2-3 weeks at most, which is basically 2-3 years of difference, which could be converted on actual plant growth Again, i am not trying to look smart or send you any hate, i just think 3 years is way way too long, and if there is a possibility i would definitely try
would be nice to see the entire plant
Gorgeous flowers 💐 Like 6 My friend thank you for good sharing. Have a good relationship
Subscribed to see how this goes. My great uncle used to propagate Stewartia Malecodenron on our family farm. I hope to bring that back one day. They’re some of the most beautiful plants I’ve ever seen. Maybe that’s just my heart strings tugging at me because he used to take me around the farm on tours and tell me all about all kinds of plants. He was especially fond of his stewartia as this variety was so hard to find and propagate.
Are these native to Pennsylvania?
@@leftovermike4663 I doubt there are any native populations in PA. It's found in the mountains in the south
Good thing you didn’t listen to the weather forecast because obviously they got it wrong and you got it right!
Beautiful !!
That critter that you said you weren't sure what it was looks like it might be a carpenter bee.
Beautiful!
What is the spacing on your whiz heads? How's your coverage?
@joerichmond98 10ft on center. The dynamic water pressure is approximately 35psi with 10 heads operatoring at once. Excellent coverage
Hes Amazing!😊
Wow this is so awesome!! You are right that the plant dies after flowering. It was mistaken that that process happened after 100 years which is why they were given the common name century plant!
Hello , will they root if you just put them in a glass of water ? Thank you .
@@alec1113 No, they need a media that holds water but is yet well drained. 50/50 peat perlite is good
First time for me , will give it a go . Thank you . Much appreciated .
incredible!! Longwood Gardens is so beautiful :)
Designated “Wild and scenic ! “
I would love to have some seedlings to establish in my Woodland garden in Central Massachusetts. Did you use any GA to help them break dormancy faster?
@thomasbennetttommy_mcnasty2020 I let the seed go through its normal stratification. Cold then warm. Seed comes up the second year. Not sure if GA will have an effect. To my knowledge, no research on that species.
Great
Ordered 3 to plant this fall. Looking forward to seeing them

Beautiful creek and trees view and sound. Thank you for video sharing. Like 👍
Thank you! 🌸 I’d love to know if the deer eat your Pinxster Azalea? Would love to see it in full, in its setting. Must be gorgeous against the backdrop of the evergreen.🌲 Have you trimmed this particular specimen? I’m planting one
Deer do not have access to this plant. In the wild, if there are no other options they will eat the succulent stems. All the native Azaleas are worth growing and worth protecting.
Awesome here, thanks for sharing your video. 👍
It's running well with Magnolia 'Maryland' and grandiflora '24 Below' in north Germany, as you can see on our Channel. Thank's for editing and sharing your nice work 🍻 🍻 🍻
Thanks for the information. I will check it out on your channel. Happy gardening in the EU
Poisonous? Edible? Medicinal? Curious, rate of growth vertically, full sun? .. and density of wall shade. Great video. Thumps Up. Thank you Good Sir
The fruit is a favorite of migratory birds. Not sure about human consumption. I wouldn't do it. Not a dermal irritant like poison ivy unless your skin is allergic to everything. Excellent fall foliage
Beautiful spot, one of my favorite places to fly fish
So true Dan, there were many anglers looking to land a prize
Can you do this keeping the woody part? Still green on the inside
Brown wood should still root if you wound th cutting and use either dip and gro or some other product. The best though, firm tissue that is still green. Timing, early fall through winter
Very nice purpurea, I hope to visit the pine barrens in NJ one day. They also contain Drosera Filiformis which I would love to see in the wild
The NJ pine barrens is a botanists dream come true. A must visit for you and all others who can make the trip. The sundews are throughout the bogs.
Can you recommend a nursery that sells these?
absolutely beautiful!!
What color flowers are these? Red fruit to white flower?
Great video!, This is my favourite plant, the colour is amazing and the bees and butterflies love it, mine emerged from the soil a couple of weeks ago, I have them in a big wooden barrel planter
It's all about pollinators, biodiversity and a healthy environment
Great video Steve!
Unusual.
What are the light requirements for rootings? I've heard that the new cuttings should be kept away from intense light until they have produced roots. Do you agree?
All cutting propagation that I do is done in a greenhouse with bottom heat and under intermittent mist. The greenhouse is located in full sun. In the summer months, the bottom heat isn't necessary and I do have a shade cloth providing 30% cover to the cuttings being rooted. If you're propagating under just a humidity dome, then your cuttings need to be shaded nore
