If you listen to the Workshop or Off-Broadway version, they do this AFTER they both got their chance to sing alone. So you get the best of both worlds that way!

I can typically see why a lot of creative decisions are made, like excluding "First Burn", or removing the kneeling scene from End Game, but I've given myself so much time and I still cannot fathom why this segment seems to be cut from the production leaving us with arguably the least liked song of the show due to what comes off as shallow word choice and empty space without this context. If someone has any info I'd love to hear more reasoning behind this decision besides maybe an extra minute to the song and having to write some sort of bridge between A. Burr & A. Ham singing the parts individually. Thanks for listening to my brief outrage.

In my opinion, this is the most tragic song in Hamilton. Both of these fathers are welcoming a child into the world, expecting them to live wonderful lives. Yet neither Philip Hamilton nor Theodosia Burr-Alston outlived their fathers.

Well now we know why Hamilton's verse has so many breaks while Burr's verse doesn't. That being said, I much prefer the final version. The verses, despite Lin's best efforts, still clash and the final version allows us to fully hear each character's feelings about their own fatherhood. And while the verses probably would have turned out quite different if Lin had originally planned them to be separate, I actually really like how it all turned out.

Is it just me or do you also see Aaron burr doesn't make promises he can't keep because unlike Hamilton burr didn't swear to make the world safe and sound for his daughter because I'm guessing he knew anything can happen. But Alex , Alex he swore so fast but was the on to Barrie his child 😢. But that's just a theory a Hamilton theory 😂❤ love you all and remember Hamilton is on 🔝

I cana see why they changed it. It's so that the audience was able to follow along. But... the original version fits so much better. I guess it's just better if there are lyrics so that people can still follow along.

I find it so interesting how in the song, Burr (the one who waits for it) is singing faster than Hamilton (the one who never learned how to take his time).

This is so gorgeous. I love this version. I just wish so much that Lin Manuel Miranda has let someone else play Hamilton. He is one of the most talented song writers, no question, but his vocals and acting are nowhere near the caliber of performers like Leslie Odom Jr. This song would be perfection if you had another singer on Odom’s level.

The ironic thing about this is that Burr, actually knew his father, until he was a certain age, so his father was around, however Hamilton never met his father.

I love how I can practically see how an animatic for this would've looked, with the two bodies overlapping on the chair in different colors, gazing at their children imagining how they'll grow and all that they'll do, possibly even with foreshadowing

the thing that breaks my heart is that aaron, whos main motto in life is to talk less cannot stop talking about his daughter, while alex whos main motto is to never shut up, cannot form the words for his son. which just goes to show how affected and in love with their children they are

ohhh BRILLIANT!! there's a musical term for this (round robin? or smth like that) where there are some songs really sung like this seemingly different but then they get to the part (usually the chorus) where they sing the same tune and the same lyrics. this edit is beautiful THANK YOU for making this 💯👏👏👏
