      @@eldredburrs745 so junior golf scoreboard is what I’m going to refer to for ranking information so you have an objective measure on where your child is at relative to their goals. Drawmorecircles is my recommendation for tracking stats. It allows you to look at specific date ranges which I find really helpful, uou can separate out tournaments vs practice rounds, and you can go pretty deep on every statistic if you want to, or you can stay high level. Really useful in my opinion. Disclaimer* I also use a custom spreadsheet I built for my students to analyze the data easier. Just JGS and Circles will get you a long way though so that’s where I’d start. Hope that all makes sense!

    I don't see "trend report" when I follow the link you show. I wonder if that's a feature for coaches only? When I click on a player's tournament summary page I don't see the top section you show. I only see the tournaments and the scores. Any ideas?

    • @connorspeterson

      It's a coaches only feature. But you can back it out if you track scoring differential for long enough.

  • @robertberardy405

    Question Connor.... In your videos I see you reference the Player Performance Dashboard on the Junior Golf Scoreboard site. I have searched for this on the site and have never found this page. Do I need to have a special subscription like as a coach or such in order to get access to these pages? I mean I can see the rankings and such for my junior golfer, etc. but not the dashboard that you show, and it has great info.

    • @connorspeterson
      @connorspeterson หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it's in a coaches subscription. That said you can back out a lot of what you need for your child if you know their scoring average, their scoring differential, and the tournaments they've played in. In general, you want to get the scoring average between 72-74, if they're shooting in that range but they don't have scoring differential around -3 or -4 then the tournaments need to get harder. Otherwise you need to put 99% of the effort into lowering the scoring average. Hope that all makes sense!

    • @robertberardy405
      @robertberardy405 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@connorspeterson Thank you, that illuminates things and it does make sense. Want to add that I look forward to your videos here. By "tournaments need to get harder" I understand you to mean that, (1) the courses (tees) need to be longer (length is the main factor in course ratings, it's my understanding that JGS doesn't use slope in determining differential, unlike your GHIN) ; and/or, (2) you need to play in stronger strength of field tournaments since that constitutes 25% of the ranking. Did I get that right?

    • @connorspeterson
      @connorspeterson หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're pretty close. Course rating is the metric you'd look at for "difficulty of tournament", slope is only applicable for bogey/higher handicap golfers - it reflects things like forced carry's that aren't relevant for better players. Like you said though, course rating is highly correlated with longer golf courses. An example would be the par 3s are all 200+ yards and there's water around the green - that's just hard for everyone so it'll be reflected in both course rating AND slope. JGS is using course rating when it creates the scoring differential (technically it's the top 75% of scores rather than 100% but it's also not 20% like GHIN - which is why I don't like handicap as an evaluation of performance for elite golf). All that said, you don't really want to start doing calculus on which tournaments to play in around that, priority one is get the scores down, once the scores are around 72-74 then you shouldn't have any problem getting into AJGA events and other elite stuff like the Junior PGA, US Junior, Junior Worlds, etc. and at that point you don't really need to worry about course rating anyway since they're all hard courses. Glad you're enjoying the videos!

    Do you have a practice plan for a 14 handicap wanting to improve?

    • @connorspeterson
      @connorspeterson หลายเดือนก่อน

      I only work with junior golfers but the principles are the same. If you're a 14 handicap you're probably best spending your time reducing your penalty rate off the tee by developing one exclusive shot shape, reducing 3 putts per round by making sure you're solid inside 5 feet and lag putting from 20, 30, and 40 feet, and then making sure you hit the green on your next shot if you miss the green (so no 2 chips). If you do those 3 things you're going to shoot lower scores. Hope that helps!

    • @connorspeterson
      @connorspeterson 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So my typical student is 10-16 years old with the goal of playing D1 golf so to be totally honest I don’t work with that age group much at all. All the principles I talk about in terms of scoring will still work for them, but typically the challenge at that age is the maturity of the player being able to do what they know and they need to do. 10-16 the problem is more often they’re already playing in tournaments, trying to improve but they don’t know how or what they are doing isn’t working so there’s where I can be really helpful. So for the 7-10 age group, it’s pretty simple, encourage them to play the game if they like it, don’t have crazy expectations of them, maturity is going to be all over the map so don’t compare them to other kids. Spend the time making there fundamentals solid and consistent and then once they’re older you can start to dial in practice & stat tracking. Hope that all makes sense!

It’s good for them to have a social media just to pass the sniff check if they’re being recruited. See some swings, results, stuff like that. But I wouldn’t be stressing over creating a profile and those slide show things. I would primarily focus on ranking and lowering their scoring differential over time. • @connorspeterson
      @connorspeterson 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Noelle-o4w so here’s the unpopular answer. If the goal is D1 golf, if you’re not comfortable qualifying for Open events, there’s not much value in playing in them. It’ll be expensive and you won’t be very competitive in the actual event. My advice would be to focus on bringing your scoring average down and getting comfortable with the distances the Ajga events will be played at. You’ll want to have a tournament scoring average around 77 or better to have a high probability of qualifying for an open event (if you have roughly 3 attempts). In the meantime, play in other ranked tournaments, focus on lowering your scoring average and then make the jump when you’re ready. It’s all about prioritizing what’s best for where you’re at rather than something as simple as just play in AJGA events. Hope that makes sense!

    • @connorspeterson

      It’s proprietary, but the short answer is a lot of math and personal testing 🙂

      Thanks. I could tell it was a form of predictive modeling but wasn’t sure if it was based on someone’s published paper or something draw more circles was doing. The personal testing is definitely important for refining.

      @@StevenFoster-ko8dk yeah it’s my own modeling. It comes down to getting something that’s predictive enough to get you close but also tells you what to work on, not just tons of data. Took me a while to build.

      We use predictive modeling at my job so I know how hard it is to increase accuracy without having too many variables. Great job putting that together.

    For sure, better OTT and APP consistently identifies the better players versus that of good around the green and even putting stats.

    Hey cool episode idea my dude! As a junior golfer with a 8 year long so far junior career myself this is a really cool idea for a podcast, because junior golfers are an under represented part of golf even though it’s an incredible and extremely wonderful introduction to a great sport. Excited to see more episodes from you!
