Hey, wow, thanks so much for this, I really appreciate it and it has just made my day! I'm OK, thanks very much for asking. I've actually done a minor rebranding and changed my artist name from 'Eric' to 'Eric Yeung' and as a result, all of the music has moved to pages under that name, on all platforms and streaming services. I'm yet to take ownership of those pages but once I do, I'll be posting some links etc. so everyone can find them. It's actually a giant mess, tbh, and every platform/service has their own ways of doing things, so this rebranding is very complicated and will take some time to complete. I've got a couple of more urgent things to sort out before I can even attend to that though, so it might be a few months before everything is fully linked up. On the other hand, I am working on some new music, and it's actually in the final stages, so I hope to release a couple of singles in about March or so, and then the rest of the album in May. Stay tuned, even here on TH-cam, because I'll be trying really hard to keep this channel as my main music channel. Thanks again for your comment; this kind of thing keeps me going. The rebranding seems like a pretty good idea, though Eric is more snappy it was difficult to look you up since there are too many erics online haha. I've noticed that you're diving straight into many exciting new projects at once like September's Echo and your producer business (I love the website by the way! The design is so fun and pleasant to look at and use!). I'm very impressed with how much you're working on growing your career, it's very inspiring and I hope it means you're feeling confident and full of energy for growth (lord knows I could use some of that). I hope you get to meet a lot of cool people and make a name for yourself so you can get the recognition you deserve. Can't wait to hear your new songs! Consider making more vlogs about yourself and maybe some with your friends and colleagues, I'd love to see more of the nontechnical part of your process. I recently got back into listening to Dark Thoughts and Black Sheep (only ones of your songs which I somehow still can access on spotify 😅 idk how but I'm glad) and they are so great! Ahh thanks so much mate! Tbh, as you can probably tell by the fact that I didn't even know what it was, I would have no idea what to do if anything like that goes wrong.

@@EricYeungMusic They can blow sometimes, like if you select an incorrect power setting. What you do is open up the preamp, find where you can see the fuse, and pop it out with you fingers, you can just pop the new one in and it will be as good as new.

You're welcome! I love this thing, and I still use it to this day, running a commercial studio. What sets it apart is that it has 3 outputs, which is very, very useful.

I think their V3 voicings are EQ curves, so maybe "warm" is a curve with a boost to the low-mids and a gentle shelf cut to the highs?

This is a valid question. I think the answer to that is simply convenience. If you can get the EQ curve just by finding the right "V3 Voicing" on this thing, you don't need to EQ the mic audio. But if you'd like more control and awareness as to what's happening (because ART don't tell you what each voicing's curves actually are), then maybe do ditch this preamp and EQ the mic audio, just like you say. To be honest with you, I have ditched this preamp and prefer to do my EQ-ing ITB nowadays.

Thanks for sharing your info! Apple has 60W USB-C or 240W USB-C cables, so I can expect the 240W cable has a better quality? Is this a power problem og the MOTU M4 getting to less power via USB-C? Maybe the MOTU M6 with external power is a better option? The SATECHI USB-C Hub Slim Multiport Adapter V2 will cost 65€.

Thanks for sharing this. I personally wouldn't be bothered having to look for solutions to MOTU's problems - I've never had such issues with other interfaces, so I ended up taking it back to the store.

The signal path is as described: Mic > ART pre > line input on Scarlett > PT11

I think it depends a lot on your OS or the DAW you're using - whichever you want to monitor through your Volt from. If it's on your DAW, then it would be a routing thing - have a look at your I/O there. If it's your OS, maybe you have to download/update your Volt's driver. Hope that helps; all the best.

The Preamp section sounds really good on drums too

But when record a loop back the file is clear from these pops. So it’s a playback issues. Also direct monitoring sounds clear. Hope this is a driver/firmware issue. Looking for a solution from Motu support

Thanks for your suggestions! I will definitely have a look at Kazrog plugins; I've never used them but have heard that they're great, especially True Iron and the clipper. I'll also check out those Arturia ones but to be honest, I'm a little less keen for that because I find Arturia's plugs annoying - it always forgets that I have the full license for the plugs so I have to jump through a bunch of hoops before I can use them, but of course, if they sound good then it might all be worth it after all. I'm sorry to hear you're having this problem; it sounds like it's a similar problem to mine as shown in the video. I would recommend you return it to the place of purchase and see what they can do for you. I returned mine and got a replacement after showing them this video.

There's no power switch but what I did was I plugged an in-line rocker switch in between the unit and the wall socket so I could just use that as the switch to turn it on or off. You can probably buy one of those at your local electronics store.

Yeah but the difference is, on the 1176, you've got that Output knob that you can dial back to prevent clipping the next stage. On this UA Volt 476, you don't have that, so to get any compression, you need the signal to be hot enough to engage the compressor, but then it becomes very risky because when the signal is that hot, you could end up going over 0dB.

I'm not very familiar with the Steinberg interfaces other than having heard that they have a very high noise floor to start with. From your comment, I think what you might be doing is connecting the output of the ART preamp to the input of the preamp on your Steinberg, which would raise the level of noise (because the noise from the ART preamp is being combined with the noise from the Steinberg preamp). So if your Steinberg preamp has a line input that doesn't go through the mic preamp of the interface, you could try connecting the output of the ART preamp into that line input. That should decrease the noise significantly. But I'm not 100% if that Steinberg interface you're using actually has any of the line inputs I'm talking about. Good luck; let me know how you go.
