Im starting this channel to plot the progress of a comunity American cichlid aquarium that i am setting up, from start to finish.

Vieja Melanura Cichlids Spawning
Got home this afternoon to find two Melanura which had paired up were in the process of laying eggs.
I had seen the sings this last week and decided to drop a pot in the area they were staking out to see if they approved.
Two days later and it looks like it worked.
These fish cant be more than 8 months old.
I had got 1 in December and it was tiny... Im talking 5mm
These i got in Jan or Feb and the 5mm original was already twice the size of these new additions.
Looks like the female has had some damage around mouth from 'lip locking' in the runup to this spawn so hope she heals ok and not overly stresseed.

There heve been a lot of changes to my Aquairium this last year. Most of my fish have found new homes and I have gone in a different direction to some extent. I have kept one Temporalis, the large male. I did keep the pair but unfortunately I had an outbreak of Columnaris and lost the female. After treating for and finally ridding the tank of this, I re-homed most of what was left and restocked...

I love these stunning Temporalis with their red eyes, chocolate fins and emerald body. These are just 6 months old and already have great color.
geophagus tapios with fry

After spotting a couple of my Tapios guarding a rock last week and seeing that there were eggs on it, i thought great i have a pair now. The eggs were gone within hours, and i thought ''better luck next time''. Well one week later and i see the pair at the front of the tank. seeing swirling mass underneath them i took a closer look. Thanks. The vieja with the pearling were sold in the UK as 'Blue spotted Synspilum'. I have seen them refered to as Vieja Synspilum.
Are those the same viejas Form 3 months Ago?
Yes, They are coloring up quite nicely
Nice. What size tank is this?
They are in a 6'x2'x2' around 600l. I should update this as there have been quite a few changes. I still have the Temporalis, but now have some Vieja Malanura a Green Terror and a Jack Dempsey
you might add Green Severum / Heros efasciatus with their gorgeous red eyes

plants are fake, so they not keen on them :)

They are 'yellow tail' congo tetra's
A lovely set up Mark. It's a great tank and you have done a brilliant job at scaping it. This aquarium has plenty of potential. I'm enjoying your stocking too, particularly the tapajos, it is quite possible you already have a pair there and could get some eggs soon enough. Good Luck to you and thanks for sharing.
Thanks Phil, and thanks for your channel. It has helped me work out stocking options for my own tank. Seeing your amazing setups and observing what you keep has help me a lot in choosing the type of fish that will work in a community and the ones that may not...Like the 'Nic's' which you warned me about. I have some rotkeil severum on order that should be in there on tuesday this coming week. I'm also thinking maybe another geo type as well but haven't made up my mind yet. Thanks for taking a look, I'll catch you back on your channel. :)
