Heading into 2025 – A Preview of What’s to Come
The Midwest didn’t disappoint in 2024. We had a blast traveling up through the center of the country and exploring along the way. We managed to fit in a handful of rallies and meet a lot of great people throughout the year.
We can’t wait to see what 2025 brings as we make our way up the East Coast. We’ve got even more rallies lined up for this year and it should be a great time.
But before all that we’ll be heading to Tampa for the Florida RV SuperShow, January 15-19, at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Drop us a comment if you plan to attend the show and keep any eye out for us at the Airstream Club International table, located inside the Airstream Booth.
In 2024 we:
- visited 13 states
- stayed at 37 different sites
- towed just over 5,800 miles
- drove a total of 20,000 miles
- used 1,378 gallons of diesel
- spent $5,105 on that fuel
- at an average cost of $3.71/gal
- and averaged 14.47 MPG along the way

RV Maintenance: Sanitize Fresh Water Tank
มุมมอง 11714 วันที่ผ่านมา
There are plenty of areas in the RV space that require preventive maintenance to keep things running at peak performance. One that’s simple, and important, is sanitizing the fresh water tank and water lines. This method uses a weak bleach solution (municipalities chlorinate their water) and is cheap and easy. There are other methods that use vinegar, and we’ll talk about a use for that later. S...
RV Cushion Foam Upgrade in our Airstream Globetrotter
มุมมอง 268หลายเดือนก่อน
Our RV cushions have seen better days! Living in our Airstream full-time, they get daily use as an office desk, dining room chair, and couch to lounge. And trust me, after 3 years they were due for an upgrade. We opted to replace them with a higher density foam than what came from the factory that provides more support and has a 15 year lifespan. We’ll walk you through everything you need to re...
Baraldi Range Hood - Fixing the Fan That Doesn’t Want to Stay On
มุมมอง 120หลายเดือนก่อน
We’ve been battling an ongoing issue with our Baraldi Range Hood; the fan will cut in and out intermittently. Sometimes the fan won’t come on at all. A few months back we replaced the fan switch, and that helped for a little bit. But recently another issue has crept up. The fan still acted like it had a mind of its own. Sometimes it would work fine, but most times it would kick on and off rando...

      As far as I know, yes it should be the same. Both systems should be using Cat 6 cables, so cutting the cables should work the same. I believe the only difference in cables is the ends that plug into the router/dish, but I haven't seen one in person.

    • @RamblinHamblins

      Are you talking about the connection made at the dish? I didn't touch that connection and still use the same connector/method of connection that Starlink originally provided. The other end of that cable, that plugs into the side of our trailer, uses a waterproof connector that utilizes a gasketed/screw on connector.

    I liked and appreciated this video. I have hated this coutoure unit. The problem is all of the buttons are too confusing to use. It's too complicated and hard to read. I wish we had a close up on that and how to use them. It's honestly difficult to just microwave something for a few minutes much less do all the other features. I find myself just doing one minute over and over. We purchased a Panasonic Toast express and carry it with us and just use that instead. It's so awesome. This Contoure thing really is not good as a toaster compared to newer ovens.

    • @RamblinHamblins
      @RamblinHamblins 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We probably would have ordered the ones with dampers, but they only had the version without the damper/knobs available at the rally, and we’ve never closed off our stock vents … so we went without. The newer ones are coming with gaskets and it looked like they were giving gaskets away to people who had earlier versions without them. It may be worth reaching out to them to see if they are doing that and what benefit you would see by adding gaskets to already installed erPods.

    Hi, can you use a cat 5 ethernet cable instead of the cable provided by the company so as to have fewer problems passing through the corrugated pipe? An installer says it is possible. Thanks

    • @RamblinHamblins
      @RamblinHamblins 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The ends that connect to the router and the dish are proprietary, but the cable is shielded Cat6 cable. So you could use Cat 5 cable, but you'd have to figure something out when plugging into the router and dish. In our case we have our cable in 3 sections. a) has the proprietary router connection on one end and an RJ45 male on the other. This cable is short and connects the router to a wall receptacle we have installed behind the television in our RV. b) has the proprietary dish connection on one end and an RJ45 male on the other, along with 1/2 of a waterproof connection. This cable connects the dish to the outside/waterproof connector we have installed on the exterior wall of our RV. I sized this cable to be long enough to reach where we mount our flagpole + some additional length incase I need to raise the flagpole higher c) has RJ45 male connectors on both ends, essentially the same as a store bought Cat 6 Shielded cable (I just used spare parts of the Starlink cable and added my own ends). It runs through a few walls and under our couch and makes the connection between the exterior waterproof port and the interior wall receptacle. Hope that helps. **this is all written in regards to Gen 2 Starlink. Gen 3 uses different connectors that I haven't seen in person.

    Fun video! We will learn from our mistake in Sedalia and register early for this event. Total bummer being parked in Grapes & Grains and being the only people not at the Mega Tasting...

    With this filtration system, do you drink the water that you’ve filtered, or do you still bring drinking water? Is this filtration more of a protection for your water lines/plumbing system of the rig?

    • @RamblinHamblins
      @RamblinHamblins 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We drink the water. We used to use a Brita pitcher to filter drinking water but got rid of it when we switched to this filter system. It helps us save space on the counter by getting rid of that pitcher.

    Good job. I just did an upgrade to a different method, but I like these.

    We did 4 to start in June and quickly did 4 more. Funny that everyone has the same feeling about the bathroom vent, that room is already too cold. They were a total game changer for air (specifically in Florida in the summer, but that was our bad judgement).

      @RamblinHamblins 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We tossed around the idea of doing 2 or doing 4 … but had friends talk us into 8 by saying we’d just do them eventually. We’ve had some hot temps and managed fine so far but figure we can manage a whole lot better with these.

    Thank you showing us this upgrade. We have been looking at these too, and haven't made the leap. Good to see how they need to be installed. Very clear instructions. Does that interfere with your upper cupboard doors opening? Good to know that you are happy with the product and they work well! - Jim & Michelle

    Does anyone know the maximum length of the starlink cable from the dish to the wifi adapter? I know I can purchase the 45M cable but I need to be around 175 foot mark. I have never messed with starlink and understand power is being sent over the wire. I just wonder about voltage drop exceeding the 45M cable they sell. I know cat6a/7 max length is 100M so I am assuming I should be good with the poe side of things...?

    • @RamblinHamblins
      @RamblinHamblins 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't tried it personally, but I would imagine you would be okay at 175 feet. There are replacement cables available that are 150 feet, and I've got to assume those work.

    Great video, it definitely answers a lot of questions. Still have a question on the SmartPlug... The one you linked at West Marine and/or eTrailer appears to be different from the one you have installed in the videos. I see your RJ45 is on top while the ones on the other sites are side by side next to the coax. Did you modify your outlet or is there a newer version available?

    • @RamblinHamblins
      @RamblinHamblins 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the older version, no longer available. The newer version, with the side by side ports, uses Keystone jacks whereas ours used bulkhead (screw through) connectors. There are some pros and cons to each design. For the current style, its really easy to purchase a shielded Keystone jack and swap out the plastic one that comes from SmartPlug. There have been some fitment issues reported with various brand Keystone jacks, but I like to one from trueCable that I have tested myself and know fits snuggly.
