If you look at older Leica literature, it says clearly that wide apertures are really for low light necessity. Bokeh is a modern aesthetic which has greatly diminished compositional skill IMHO.

For most of my life, I've shot Nikon. I've used Hasselblad, Pentax 6x7, Mamiya RB 67 and Bronco SQA for my professional large format work. As I moved out of the professional sphere, I tried Canon (for a change) with the AE1 and EOS system but quickly went back to Nikon with the D100. Now years later, I have a D850 and many lenses. But I'm getting old and I don't want to be carrying heavy and bulky kit around. I bought a Q2 and never touched the D850 after that. Now I've added an M11 and one lens (another coming shortly). The Q2 as a daily camera and the M11 when I want to take more time. And that's it, I started with manual cameras, spilt screen focussing etc and I've gone back to that (except with a rangefinder instead of split screen SLR). Finding photography again, using my brain and the cameras computer. Each to his own. 30 years ago, I couldn't afford Leica, despite the fact that I spent a lot (relatively) on camera gear. Just one other thing... build quality. The feel of a Leica, the quality and ergonomics are great. I sold most of my Nikon gear to fund the M11 and I'd never go back.

I own the Summicron 35 and as a backup the Summarit 35 f/2.5. I use 100% time the Summicron for my photo project in baltic countries and as I don't like much blurred backgrounds, I usually shoot at f/5.6 or f/8 for street photography (using zone focus and hyperfocal techniques) and the same for landscapes or posed portraits. I'm in a documentary style with a narrative part so I don't need a Summilux.

I totally agree with you. Leica q2 makes me feel like a professional. Feels so good to shoot, hold and own. I purchased brand new and have hefty credit card bill to pay for my Leica q2 but am still happy to own one.

I purchased a Q2 a few months ago myself, after doing a lot of research. The form factor, build and simplicity is what got me. So far I love the images that come out it. Big files, but a lot of detail in them. And it does feel like an experience when shooting with it. I grabbed a PolarPro Everyday filter for it, but I just haven’t gotten use to it. Are you using any filters on your camera, like a polarizer or mist? For now I’m just gonna stick with the UV II filter from Leica on mine.

I use GG1 on mine. I rarely take it off. It is super sharp where it needs to be and I get the halation effect where it should be. Really like that filter.

Very well said and totally agree! The Leica Q lineup is a good balance, at least in the Leica world :D Unfortunately the Q line didn't convince me to only own that one camera (which I hoped it would, since I sold all my Canon and Sony gear for one Q2 back then). On the contrary it opened the gate to the M system, which seems to happen to a lot of people playing around with the Leica Q line :) I truely don't need multiple M cameras, but I love the rangefinder experience and somehow I developed and interest of collection some of these M cameras...latest purchases of mine are an M3 and M8 ... can't help my G.A.S. currently :D Awesome work as always man!

I am a Leica shooter but also Nikon and others. One thing I keep seeing in these types of videos is how Leica allows you to set everything manually and to “slow down”. Not to state the obvious but most cameras like Nikon and Canon also have a Manual setting option 😀. Cameras are tools and you use different tools for different purposes. Can’t imagine using rangefinder beyond 90mm or for sports/action.

    • @RadsbyCo
      @RadsbyCo หลายเดือนก่อน

Haha yes of course but you can't replicate the rangefinder experience on mirrorless or dslrs. Manual settings I use for almost every camera I use regardless of brand. Rangefinders are definitely not for sports especially not for tele shots 😂. But I believe it has been done but it's a lot of work for something where critical focus is needed fast.

Sharing the same sentiments. I found more enjoyment in photography again when I started adapting vintage lenses. Manual focus is more than a technique, it's an artform. It gives control back to the photographer. In my case it may not be switching entirely but I am looking at the Leica-Q as my second cam for EDC.

I also come from Canon which doesn't have a centered tilt screen like other brands. I've been shooting from the hip way more often in street which is another plus for the Q3. Thanks for the video! I love to laugh at the amount of hate that comes Leica owner's way. I grew up shooting film and have unfortunately had to stop last year due to the insane price rises! Since then I've been looking for a setup that is like shooting film - unfortunately there is no brand that comes even remotely close to Leica in this regard. I can't even tell you how disappointed in Nikon I am that they just threw their f mount onto the scrap heap! Can you imagine if Leica just discontinued the m-mount?! So I dipped into Leica with the m-262 and a Voigtländer 35 f2 and a rehoused Contax 45mm f2. Absolutely no bells and whistles - not even live view! I bloody love it - it's as close to shooting my Nikon fm2n as I can find in a digital camera. Let each person find their own way into photography - some of us want a stripped back experience, and unfortunately for our wallets, the only brand currently offering anything like that id Leica. Thanks

It works well for 24-35mm style of photography. If you are used to 50mm 1.4 or 85mm then it wont hold up to your expectations looks wise. But I could shoot weddings with it no problems!

People’s opinions are subjective but for me, I’m the total opposite. I disliked the weight and the rendering of the m240… the M10 is lighter and the rendering and default colors are closer to the m9 although not the same . I found the m240 files , like others to be very flat and muddy and need a lot more work in Lightroom than the m10… but that’s just my take

I started with MP240 with Voigtländer 35mm 1.4 ii( which is very good lens) then M10R ( I love M10R but sometimes I miss the IQ from M240, so I keep both) later on get M6. After backpacking trip with my friend I kinda miss auto focus and also close focusing because sometimes I kind lazy to manual focus all the time so I get OG Q1 (I had X100 V but I feel I like DOF from full frame more), love the IQ, file size is perfect but the only thing as you mention that It has no weather sealing. I made the jump recently, after 40 years of hesitation ;) I bought a used M240 in 2024 which a 2013 camera ... Like you perfectly said: 1 - It is about taking pictures by yourself not relying on an amazing computer to do it for you (personal choice of course) 2 - It is the joy (or the pain) or either doing a great photo or missing the shot, whatever happens, it is it s on you not on the camera. I started 40 years ago with a Nikon FM2 and I was able to do Ski, Trampoline, tennis action photo with manual focus and exposure (zone focusing and proper aperture) It was pure joy. Now with a recent phone you can do truly amazing pictures with just pointing and shooting and this is cool !! really cool, just a different experience. It is also cool to be in control, taking the same pictures but having to sweat a bit for that ;) Well I do love my camera, and I totally understand people that do not want to walk that path for whatever reasons which are theirs ! I have seen the 40mm floating around, will definitely keep an eye out! Thank you for the heads up about the cron v4, is it the same problem for both the German and the Canadian versions of the lens?

Great video brother! Forget the M2, I need that 35mm 😂 Just kidding. I enjoy as well showing more of the environment when I am shooting portraits. I completely burry background works sometimes but is more interesting so see the location and compose accordingly ❤

Beautiful work! For me it depends on what I'm shooting. Studio portraits I use a faster aperture. Out and about I change it up frequently. I may even shoot the same subject wide open and closed down. Over the last 45 years of shooting my style has changed so many times. I just go with my heart. No longer worried about clients or views. I shoot for me. Started shooting Leica over two years ago, Q2 and M6. Love my Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 and my 50mm f1.5. So far I'm happy with the full range of f-stops!

Thank you so much! Gotta love the Voigtländer lenses, so good for the price it's ridiculous. The Voigtländer lives on my M2 now for sure.

My friends think I'm strange for choosing my MP240 & M5 over the M10p & M6/MP film cameras I used to own. I just prefer the battery life on the 240 & the M10 freezes or fails to start. And the 240 and M5 have more substantial grip/stability for my hand. I also dumped my Q2 to go back to the Q. Better low light, color science, smaller files & cheaper batteries. Cheers!

I agree with everything you wrote here haha. I also prefer the original Q as well!

you also pay for decent paid workers at Leica in EU if that matters to you of course 🙂

Yes of course! It's definitely an aspect people forget to talk about 🙂

Yep, agree completely. Took identical path myself, and quite recently. IMO, this specific era of Leicas is the perfect moment where they had one foot in the past and one in the future. I still haven't put my Q116 up for sale because of that sensor/lens combo. The color is just perfect... But i do use the M240 95% of the time now. I dont know what would make me upgrade, honestly. These dusty old babies are just too good.

100% agreed. M240 is so nice! I miss my Q too and you are not helping haha 😂
