Great photography
awesome video
The mountains look dangerous and beautiful on the way to Akutan.
A good breakfast on that ship would be real good.
Great job

As an ex AB over here in the UK I find your videos very interesting and brings back many memories thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Thats a great job. Learning seamanship, seeing the coast. And cleaning make sure the toilets are the cleanest in your fleet! If ya got time to lean, ya got time to clean!. I run fishboats out of Prince Rupert.Hecate St, Dixon Ent, 58 years in the business, still giving er. Good sailing!!!
Thanks for the kind words.
If I were younger, much younger, I'd apply at Coastal.
What we wouldn't do, if we had all the years back... :)
I was on a similar ship that sailed the Northern Marianas to Yokohama in the 80's Fun job for a young man
where is the sound ?
How did they build the engine room and superstructure before the rest of the ship?
The original ship was built in 1963. When she was bought by certain owners in 1985 they decided to keep the engine room and superstructure but get rid of the other 2/3rds of the ship. It was discarded and a new forebody was built and attached to the older section.
@@coastaltransportationcrew Wow, quite a story. Thanks.
very impressive
Seeing this makes me homesick.
Great video.
I saw one of your ships I passed the Costal progress when I was on the Nieuw Amsterdam on my way home from Alaska we passed her in Queen Charlotte strait she was north bound we were bound for Vancouver wich I got photo of the costal progress passing us
What does AB stand for one has AB seamen on it
Able Seaman. To become an able-seaman you need to have a certain amount of experience at sea, and take a test with the coast guard.
Sitting on an empty bucket, done plenty of that.
From the early 70's I was enlisted in the Navy then in the Merchant Marine. 25 years at sea so I assumed by now ship maintenance technology has passed me by. Then I saw the use of needle guns, chippers, scrappers, etc. so I would be right at home. Except we didn't have Shop Vacs to clean up. And we always laid down coats of Red Lead as a primer. We used to mix the final coat of paint into the Red Lead so coat after coat the layers of Red Lead got closer to the final color. I guess the newer paints don't need primer.
Do the Merchants still use Osphlo anti rust or is this banned also?...Locker looks good......enough muscle memory to find the tool even when the gen set is down!
You could use Ospho. We use a different product for sealing. We do use Ospho for cleaning up rust stains.
This company looks outstanding. I have been looking for a career like this since I've been out of the military. Just applied a few days ago, looking forward to hearing back. My only regret is that I didn't find out about this sooner.
Fun to see a place I'll never visit.
Pretty handy
The person that edited this video must have been drunk.....terrible !
Where's Will and Bernie...everyone's favorite couple?
Having grown up on a northern Farm , I know how much more difficult the cold and snow make it.
Farming is as tough as it gets. Unless it’s dairy farming, in which case it’s tougher!
Yes. The mast house is a heated space and the mooring lines are stowed so as to dry out.
Soooo.....are your mooring lines stored inside so they dry/thaw our?
Great to see girls working on board. More interesting than a land based office job.
Wow, very remote towns.

How strict are you when selecting deckhand applicants? I haven't received a reply yet
When did you apply? You did so on the website, correct?
@@coastaltransportationcrewabout a month ago
@@coastaltransportationcrewsame here, I applied as deckhand twice and the recent one last week. Is it really that strict?
I remember when they came along side the Ocean Phoenix to deliver.
Do you need captain ? 😌
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it.
Impressive operation.
I guess tying a granny knot in a rope that big would be kinda hard
Free tip: no-one likes the music. Doesn't matter what music, it's always gonna suck. Check your stats, you'll see people fast forward around it. It might sound weird to you but the sound that accompanies the video you're showing is a really important part of the experience. Basically, if your montage is good enough it'll do fine with either literally just the native audio or ADR of the same environment 👊🙏
We only see the Cpt , where is the Mate?😀
We'll have an interview with the mate later this season.
Aaa nice, thank you for your reply👍👌
If i remember correctie coastal transportation had one more old dutch reefer in the fleet but its gone now
Back in the past, CTI owned three other vessels that were built in Europe. The old Coastal Sea had been built in Amel, Sweden, and operated in Germany. The Coastal Merchant was built in Husum, Germany. The Coastal Venture (ex-Sunmar Star) was built in Svendborg, Denmark.
She was built in Holland as the San José
The shipping north coast change lots dutch harbour but fall- winter is pretty rough and touch get all stuff client up down coast.Alaska economy change more plus more demand is good coastal transportation in future.thanks video😊
It would be nice to see some of the sea animals like the whales 🐳, eagles 🦅, 🎣 etc or crew members picking off the ice from the boat.
We’ll see more wildlife in some of the later episodes. On this voyage there was plenty of snow but the vessel did not ice up, so you won’t see any de-icing going on. But the snow does suck and later on you’ll see the crew wrestling with those issues.
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
I've done coastal, the Mate is the hardest worker onboard , hands down.
Hate off to you mate. Safe travels always. 🫡
Chef, you are an asset to the Ship . The food looks fab.
omg the food looks amazing . Such a talented Chef makes for a happy crew.
I just found your TH-cam page today and it brings tears to my eyes. If I was 30 years younger (perhaps 40 years) I'd sign up tomorrow. I have been on the ocean for over 65 years. My pop had me take the Coast Guard licensing courses in 1963 (years ago) but I was underage at the time to obtain the paperwork but he thought it was great knowledge to have. I really would give anything to be on one of your ships......safe voyages to all.
Look like this company will get bigger with demand alaska.thanks😊
