This video is a step-by-step tutorial how to make the wallet „Fiume“.
The heart closure is an eye-catcher of this wallet.
Fiume has 6 card slots and 2 large compartments. These are perfect for banknotes, bills and so on. You can easliy make 4 smaller ones out of these large compartments, if you prefer.
In addition, Fiume has a roomy zippered pocket for change.
REQUIRED MATERIALS
25 x 75 cm (10“ x 30“) fabric (e.g. cotton)
25 x 40 cm (10“ x 16“) contrast fabric (e.g. cotton, canvas, synthetic leather)
20 x 45 cm (10“ x 18“) lining (e.g. cotton)
25 x 40 cm (10“ x 16“) stabilizing interfacing (e.g. Decovil Light, Vilene S320, Pellon 809 decor bond)
25 x 30 cm (10“ x 12“) thin stabilizing interfaching (e.g. Vilene H250, Pellon 808 craft-fuse)

Thank you. You can also make a straight rectangle. I like the shaped waistband more, because I think the skirt has a better fall this way.

What's the best way to make this longer?
Hi, just draw a horizontal line from the left & right top corner of the skirt pattern part down to the length you prefer. From both so formed points on the bottom go on the left side about 2cm left and on the right side about 2cm right to get the flare. Then draw a line from this new point up to the top corners on both sides. Measure the length of the new side length and adjust the pleat pattern part to the same length. Don't forget the seam allowances. I hope this explanation is understandable ;-)

I am having problems with so much bulk at the sides and bottom where the pockets are . Yours looks so crisp how do I eliminate the bulk I trim the seams. I am using a 3/8 seam allowance is that the right seam allowance? Sincerely Pam Braun
Hi Pam, your 3/8 seam allowance is right. Did you trim the seam allowances as far as I did in the video. In the pocket area it's very important. Another problem might be your fabric. Is it perhaps too thick? I recommend to use a lightweight cotton or a similar fabric. Perhaps you can send me some photos (Etsy or Website) from the inside of the wallet, where the seams and the bulk is visible, because it's really difficult to help over the distance without photos ;-)

Need to make one of these for my hubby " The Trim Star" And track down the thermolan/equivalent here in the UK
Hi Allinson, if you don't have Thermolam in the UK, perhaps you can find Insul-Bright in combination with Warm & Natural. It's a little bit thicker than Thermolam but according to my experience more heat-resistant. Another option is Bosal Poly-Therm Fleece. I hope, you could find one of these or something similar 🙂.
