Is cute ❤️
looking that i have to buy things i rather go pixel by pixel
I found you by chance today and I'm so glad you did. I've been sorely missing the community around art that's been gone for years. A lot of people treat all of this like a race to the top or look for ways to use someone to get more popular. I miss having genuine art friends. I miss chilling with people and working on art together. I just miss people, man. I'm gonna make a Cara and scan the comments on this video and look for some people (and follow you, too!). Thank you so much! edit: omg sheezy is giving me super old-school dA vibes, I'll join there too. Thank you again!
Of course! Socializing is, funnily enough, the best part of Social Media! Have fun!
you make a good point
Two new questions: got any recommendations or guides on how to dither an image for the printer? Second question: do you know of any guides to program the arduino to work on Super Mario RPG? I wanna know if anybody had programmed it to do the 100 super jump challenge because it's so annoying to do
1) I like using photoshop, converting the image mode to Monochrome Bitmap, and letting it auto-dither. Re 2)… not sure! I feel like I'm not much of a programmer outside of art.
@@HikaTamika got an alternative free method? I don't use Photoshop
Can I use arduino uno?
it took LOTS of trial and error, but i got this to work! thank you so much for the tutorial!
Did we need jailbreak the switch first?
Nope, no jailbreak for this method.
I informed my IG followers that I was moving my art to Cara but keeping my IG account. I then deleted all my art on my wall and in my videos and reels and even stuff that was saved. Then posted a "RIP" post on my wall and changed my profile pic to something that was not my logo. Then posted my most essential IG art to Cara. When I post something new I post the link to the new artwork on my IG story. It's rough but it keeps my art safe and my follower count.
Waaa how did I miss this video it was just what I needed to go in the background of my art session! Anyways, this video was really relevant to me because I've also been looking into smaller platforms for artists, not just because of the ai training stuff on big corporate platforms, but also because smaller platforms tend to be more chill and better moderated. For a standard 'art site', I'm thinking of starting off on Side7 (love the old fashioned aesthetics, and the fact that it has an extensive tagging system and lots of categories for virtually any kind of art), then cross-posting to Newgrounds later on (also has old-fashioned aesthetics, and the fandoms I'm into have a lot of cool artists on there.) As for a social media, I'm also thinking of Mastodon, or, rather, the Fediverse in general! There are tons of servers beyond the Mastodon ones, and I particularly love how Akkoma and Misskey/Sharkey/Firefish* allow you to do emoji reactions under people's posts, which, unfortunately, many Mastodon instances don't appear to have. Akkoma is a little more early 2000s in design, while Misskey and the like have more modern, sleek interfaces. I like them both! But Akkoma allows higher character limits in a post (the default is 5000), so I may join one of theirs, as I am thinking of posting microfictions and things there. If anyone is interested, I can post some information about how to find the best server for you! *Sharkey and Firefish are based on Misskey, but are designed for English speakers. You'll probably find more English speakers on the local timeline of former instances.
Basically
My artistic mind has been opened to new possibilities.
Okay now I've got a new problem. I went to print a new image and it was trying to print the first one. I thought I overwrote the old one with the new image but I guess not?
You choose an image to print by declaring it by name as shown in the 2:54 part
@@HikaTamika I fixed it. I basically needed to also repeat the "make" part
Hello, wanted to ask if this process was done in Linux or Microsoft. I have no Linux experience so I was curious
I did it on Windows PC. To be blunt, I ain't smart enough for Linux. 😭
@@HikaTamika SAME AHAHA. Thanks! Just had to make sure lol, I'm going to take a crack at this sooner or later
So I finally got it to work. There are some really key things to note in the process: 1. the file names in your PC matter. There must be absolutely NO spaces in their names or else you're going to have problems with running those Python commands. 2. if you're having the 'PIL' error, you just need to install Pillow by simply typing "pip install Pillow" in the command (cmd) prompt 3. when you're doing the "AVRGCCStart.cmd" part, don't worry about not seeing the chip in the device manager like on that website's guide. What matters is if it works in the Arduino IDE 4. Be mindful of the file placement. A couple times I needed to "scooch" my files when I downloaded/extracted and renamed the needed files For example, I had a problem with the IDE until I realized I needed to go one more file DEEPER into the LUFA folder and then name THAT file "LUFA" and then the IDE started working. Anyway, is there any way for this thing to print vertical images or is this only for horizontal?
Thanks for your additions, genuinely! I think the script was made for splatoon 2 and patched for 3, so it only draws in the wide format. You can press Y after it's finished drawing to make the banner vertical. Left is the "top", so prepare your image in that way.
@@HikaTamika I had another question, but what step should I start at for printing a new image? Now that I've got everything set up for myself
@@ResidentTarantino I'm assuming 6:47 if you already did the Arduino IDE part and the Python Image Library Part! 👀 ✨
@@HikaTamika That just the printing. I'm talking about the step where I put the new image on the chip
Oh, I'd say start from 2:49. (Again, potentially) Your PIL error had me assuming you were already doing that.
I'm just going to keep trucking, but the 2:40 part, my Arduino micro is not being detected on the device manager the same way it is in the AVR GCC instructions. I downloaded the Arduino IDE to see if it would install any useful drivers but it didn't seem to do so. So I'm going to pretend that it worked. I'll add any additional issues I come across 3:17 that didn't take long. "Python was not found; run without arguments to install from the Microsoft Store, or disable this shortcut from Settings > Manage App Execution Aliases."
I'm assuming you installed Python, but try running the installer again, but this time, keep your eye out for little optional checkboxes in the installer. Select the option that has the installer add Python to the "PATH" command line thingies. Don't mind your Arduino not appearing in the Zadig device manager thing in the Tinusaur tutorial. As long as the Arduino IDE can see it, you're good.
@@HikaTamika I don't think the IDE is seeing it. Does the Python installation have anything to do with that?
The Python PATH stuff is moreso in response to Python being reported as not found. Does this page help with the Arduino IDE not finding your micro? support.arduino.cc/hc/en-us/articles/4412955149586-If-your-board-does-not-appear-on-a-port-in-Arduino-IDE
@@HikaTamika I think the IDE sees it now, but here's what happens at the 3:14 step now: Traceback (most recent call last): File "{file location}", line 4, in <module> from PIL import Image ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'PIL'
You're on your way! Install the Python Image Library. I honestly should have mentioned that. pypi.org/project/pillow/
ngl i only use instagram so my irls can see my art
but with the ai... is it really worth it? i dont know
That's when I realised, you Need 3D model to Draw 2D & Need 2D reference to make 3D 🔁
Heavy asterisk on "need" for both cases.
The loop starts somewhere, I promise! I started from 2D with my imagination. Just from the front and side.
V Cool!
Thank you!
i've posted in so many art shares and get zero likes. im either shadowbanned or my art is dogshit
On which site? BlueSky doesn't have shadowbanning in the traditional sense. Looking at your profile, your art is lively and nice. I'd recommend using hashtags (they really help more than one'd think!) and hyping others up in art share threads. It really makes folks go to check what you added to the art share.
I mean honestly for me honestly I gave up all of it yeah I do have Cara how do you put something on there yeah my devinatart art account is still there My overall I kind of gave up on Twitter and Instagram when it came to my artwork.
Solid advice in the current era of social media for artists. From the perspective of someone floundering in between the hobbyist part and the semi-pro/full pro part of it, it's been nice to see a revival of community-oriented platforms, I get the good feelings from earlier art platforms before they're taken over by big money. It's also great that you pointed out what can be realistic for each one depending on what their goals are. I no longer have the time to dedicate myself to art as I used to, so engagement for myself is predictably difficult; but I love engaging with others' creations in the measure I can. Bluesky has been amazing for this, I really missed tags actually translating to reach, and it feels generally easy to engage with low spoons. Thank you so much for giving perspective in why new sites can feel "dead"!
Thank you! I wanted to make sure I was being considerate of people's time and not being dismissive of people who are busy (outside of a little joke here and there). I think the internet is at a turning point right now, and if people engage as much as time allows them, especially the people with a lot of free time, we can bring enough life to new sites to inspire people to give them another chance! Thanks for watching and commenting!
ive heard a few different opinions about this topic, from big and small artists, but i havent heard this advice yet, so im glad i watched it
I came over from bluesky! thank you for the tips and helpful insight :))
Thank you for watching!! Let's make BlueSky (and the whole web) a friendly place for artists! 💜💜
oohhh I loved this video !!! love the new avatar !
Thank you Lumen!! 🥹💜💜💜 And thank you for the awesome thumbnail! 😭
then how the hell do I draw on mye handheld lite… there’s no tutorials,,,,,,,
The Lite should work with this tutorial. Plug the Arduino Micro into the USB-C port at the bottom. If you'd rather draw by finger/stylus, Cephalorock has a tutorial for that. th-cam.com/video/HbkZdnN8UGI/w-d-xo.html
💛💛💛
LoL that's true
Observing Cara, I keep finding big artists who had started an account back in June, only to quickly give up. I see they have few followers and are following few artists or no one. You have to interact and support. So many don't do this and expect people to immediately begin sucking up to them.
Exactly! One gets what they give, on social media. Especially when making an account on a new platform. It's kinda awkward when people show up expecting to 'get' without doing any 'giving', even a little bit, and then quickly giving up. 😭
Love the new avatar the tracking is so smooth! I wonder if it’s possible to give it a outline like your sprites? (Idk if it’s possible with moving objects)
Thank you!! There's an outline plugin for OBS (how I capture it) that I'm going to try out called "stroke, glow, shadow". If it works, it'd be way cleaner than my backup plan, faking an outline in Adobe After Effects 🤔💭
Awesome advice!
Thank you! 🥹💜
I love the term "friendly maxing" because you KNOW I be doing that ALL DAY EVERY DAY. But, also, more seriously - The advice to interact with your peers is SO important!! Specifically the ones closest to you in niches, interests, size, etc. In school these are often referred to as a cohort - these are the folks you will likely encounter again and again, either in classes or out in the world once you're finding jobs. These people are the easiest to form connections with. These are not your enemies!!! Or at least, they shouldn't be. You should be treating one another like comrades in arms - you are both fighting the algo to stay relevant, and it is better to have a helpful hand to uplift one another than it is to feel like you have even more competition. You learn a lot by being friendly with these people, too - it's almost always a Win/Win getting to know and become friendly and encouraging with one another :D Another super solid video, great job, no notes! Clapping applauding liking and subscribing, etc <3
Thank you Teo!! AGREED!! I feel like the Twitter/Insta/TikTok algorithms got everyone thinking they're in their own individual fight against algorithms, but we're all in this together, on any site! I hope the internet can become a place where artists are cooperative and have comradery with each other, rather than every-artist-for-theirself. It feels better to create in community. Coincidentally, it's easier to grow that way too. Thanks for watching! 🥹💜
Underrated
Thank you! 🙇
Instagram algorithm has never been nice to me, i mean yes oc art used to be less popular than fanart on insta when the algorithm was less bad i think (idrk i didnt care very much) but my acc thats been on insta since 2018 has been swinging around 100 follower since forever so i guess it will hurt less to leave for me :')
Artists conspiracy theory? I'm in.
I literally thought you said hatch as in hatching eggs
Whats wild is that they wouldnt even need to restart. Just tell your fan base you're moving ship and a lot will probably follow. But with Cara being new, there's probably no money there
I follow some bif artist and the once i follow did go away from IG due favt with Meta and all that but some only Delete all artwork but left link to there other website. Some left there artwork but delte mabey most of them and other just left it but Whould only Repost old artwork with the whole Glaze or nightshade on platform like IG,Twitter or Deviantart to be clar most of them do have there commission or some website but that the mix thing i see of the one i follow some are tired and i whould not be surpeice that sooner or later Many of these artist will go to FA or Newground at some point or soem artist gonna make there own website like how the JP peopel made ther own website because they where sick and tired of woke, snowflake, sjw people report there work, "Claiming"bs or hurthing them for no reaosn that they delete there whole twitter acc due those toxic peope
I havent been watching much videos on Cara but i watched one where an artist said that Cara is run by a small team and itd be difficult for the team that are freelancers to try and keep the site up and keep up with the bugs and updates. These big artist could be trying to gatekeep but also we cant keep pushing a lot of traffic to that website its a small team
Can you make videos on how to get views on Cara their algorithm is f9
What kind of "artists" are you following on IG? Most of the artist I follow do have Cara and respect it, having them 10k o 15k followers themselves. But what some had said, and I share the concept, is to not take a complete switch. Cara work for some things IG don't, and IG works for some things that, currently, Cara don't. Therefore, they recommend not ditching one for the other. And most of them agree that, regardless of what SM you choose to engage with, open your own site. This video sounds way more about the so called artist you're following and less about the apps.
The IG artists that said the things that inspired this video, used TH-cam as their platform for saying the things I talked about. Not IG text-on-a-square posts or their stories. On top of that, I didn't even really follow them. It was more of a TH-cam Recommended Bar situation. And yeah, this is a rebuttal video specifically to their *points*. All that said, I fear internet drama and inciting stuff so I don't want to go out and say "[ArtTuber A, ArtTuber B, and ArtTuber C] (by name) were dogging on Cara!!" online, cause doing that anywhere where you garner attention is more or less telling people "sic' em, boys!!" and I don't wanna do that.
I dont trust third party programs to cross post for me lol but inspired me to create a program just like that...and keeo it open source. Im too paranoid if its not a tool i created myself. Welp, time to do some python.
Ilu 400 follower joe glad to be one of your 400 joe enjoyers 😤✊ Jokes aside you are, as always, so wise and observant about the experiences of smaller/growing artists. NO NOTES, 10/10!!!
Comment for the Algorithm: Gouache is a water-soluble, opaque paint that's made from pigments, gum arabic, and water. The term originated in France in the 18th century. Gouache is similar to watercolor, but it contains more binder and white pigment to make it opaque and prevent the paper's white surface from showing through. The paint's heavy pigment load and reduced binder content leave behind almost pure pigment when dry, held together by just enough binder.
there is no reason to put up with the terrible policies of Instagram. the best option is to move to another platform. and sure the views, followers and monetization will be lower but it will be worth it. because how else will alternatives that dont want to screw us over grow if we dont use them. its the self filling prophecy. No one is on the alternatives, public perception is that its a dead end/un profitable, No one uses the site so it cant grow/advertise or add new features, no one goes to the alternative. If instagram is so awful make an effort to not be shackled to them
You are SO RIGHT!! I think at the end of the day individual artists - especially smaller creators - can benefit HUGELY from trying new platform alternatives despite the push back. If nothing else, you may get more attention on your work while the new platform is still a little slower/less populated, so it's worth checking out whatever you're hearing about for yourself! It's good experience, and if it DOES work out...bam, you got in on the ground floor ;] I love this piece btw!! sooo cute
LEAVE IT TO TEO TO KNOW WHAT I MEAN!! 😤😤😤 You hit the nail on the head :D And if things don't pan out as well as one would want them to, they can bring all the new buddies they made to other places. Thank you so much for your comment!
I just discovered Cara today. And from the looks of it, it seems promising. So I think I'll give it a shot.
proud 1000th subscriber
Thank you very much!! Omg!! I was sick with stomach troubles for a while, but I'm getting back into the swing of things.
