This is a review of the 2020 Lightning Kayak STRIKE. Is the weight rating on this kayak accurate? Lets find out.... This kayak retails for $1799 plus shipping. it is 12'6'' long, 34'' wide and has a weight rating of 410 lbs. Being 6'1'' 300lbs, I weigh too much to use this kayak in a safe manner. In addition with others being as low as 225lbs having the same issue! After contacting the manufact...

Jet Ski Fishing setup! Rack review and future projects
มุมมอง 27K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Unfortunately after searching for months it is almost impossible to find a good video on setting up a jet ski for fishing. So I figured id make my own! Heres how i set up my ski and rack. If you have any questions feel free to ask! Have a great one :) Here is the update th-cam.com/video/tF2ZJh2Vw8A/w-d-xo.html
Dude you really need to grease the rudder system up it will help with wearing the bushes out but that's just my opinion though 😉
does the rudder scrape when you lift the front of the yak to load it up? i know some of these larger aluminum rudder upgrades tend to stick out a little too far
Did you get rid of your Live Watersports Paddleboard? Have been checking back periodically to see if you added any more videos on it.
Yes I did sell it. But I regret it every day 😆
@@BaDFiSh4650 I live close to where they're built. The price just has me on the fence about it. But I'm a good size guy so it looks like it would be super stable
@@robcatterton8244 I liked mine alot but I opted to use my hobie instead. BUT its way stable and way easier to transport than my hobies which is why i would like another one.
I’m thinking I will buy one
Was it worth the money ?
Well worth it! I installed another one on my pa14
I did the same thing when I replaced my rudder. Later, I seen a trick where you only take out the center screw, slide the old rudder out slide the new one in reconnect the spring >re-tie the line and your done. It would us alot of work-lol!
Are you still in business?
Unfortunately no we are not.
Needs a 5hp!!!
Hello this was a good review sir. Thank you for letting us know about the problem you had with the lightning kayak. I can't believe how you got rude customer service from them. That was a lot of water around the drive and for the money that you pay it should be dry. I was looking in to buying this kayak because I want to upgrade to an pedal Drive and I'm looking for the forward and backwards instant pedal. I also want a kayak that can carry big boy and some weight. One question? If this kayak had no issues with it would you recommended for an easy pedal drive to pedal barefooted👣. I have very very big wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE with very fat wide toe and I'm having trouble finding a pedal that's wide enough for my foot. I tried the Hobie pedal drive and not cannot get my foot to fit through the straps. The foot brace on my kayak are too small in my feet just keep falling off of them. Most of the kayaks I had been trying my foot is too small for the foot brace. I even tried a sit in kayak for camping and I still can get my foot inside the kayak. It's embarrassing when people are watching you trying to demo a kayak pedal Drive and your foot won't stay on the pedal or fit through the strap because of it being so wide. It really sucks having very very wide feet with fat wide toes. Thank you for sharing your video it was very helpful. Again I'm sorry you went through this. I will check the rest of your video And subscribe to you.
Thank you so much for watching! As far as the drive goes.. its literally the same drive as hobie so there isnt a difference (in my opinion) in the size of the pedals. Have you tried out the jackson big rig fdhd? I scooped one of those up and its been great! I really wanted to like this lightening kayak, but between the toxic community and the terrible customer service.. it was a no brainer to cut ties with the company completely.. Thanks again for watching!
I have this paddleboard and LOVE it. I bought it early 2020 and used it all summer on (exclusively) Lake Michigan. With myself, two medium size dogs and other gear including cooler pushing 350 pounds, it handles waves beautifully. 1 to 2 foot swells is my personal limit, not because the board can’t handle it, it can; my dogs will fall off. Mine BTW has aluminum yak attack tracks. One HUGE tip I want to give you: if you plan on getting any of Live Watersports tunnel style boards. Buy a keel guard kit to protect both sides back a few feet. To keep the boards as light as possible, the fiberglass is not as thick as a regular boat and will get worn through or damaged. It’s nice knowing I can just paddle up to the shore or boat launch and not worry about the hull getting damaged. One more thing, when an extra large wave is approaching (The wake from a large boat), just point the board into the wave, get on your knees and ride it out.
Most people I know that bought a lightning, regret it. Nothing but problems and bad customer service. And if you end up modifying it for a hobie drive. You probably spent close to the amount of an actual hobie. My buddy said "why do you think that the brand promotor doesn't use them in his videos anymore." That stuck with me a lot.
You should open the drain plugs every time after a day out in the water.
I see what you mean I've watched some old episodes of tile Sutherland with 30 mi out and in the old Outbacks I'm talking 1415 year model it seemed like they always had standing water around the drive well but it seems like they could make a one inch lip around that thing or maybe a two inch lip so you did not have that problem I am about 240 myself I bought a top water 120 non-pdl I have the same problem with the scupper plugs in it I should say scupper holes I have to put plugs in it to keep the water out too and I'm probably pushing 240 and I would guess the whole weights about 90 lb so you figure 340 and we'll say I'll take about 20 30 lb of stuff with me so you're looking at what 390 I got another 110 pounds before I should be even close to exceeding weight limit and it's just water comes to the top of the scupper plugs so if you lean over this way you get water in the boat and there's no way for it to drain out so I know what you mean my friend if you see please respond
Badass
Buy a Vibe. They are great with customer service. I cracked a hull parly my fault. Sent an email with pics and had a new hual in a few days. Only thing I can tell you though is that the Vibe huals are very soft. Which is weird. But they do great if you ever have any issues.
Thanks for the recommendation! I have heard alot of good things about vibe. For now I ended up going back to a jackson big rig HDFD which ill be doing a review on in the next couple weeks! Jacksons customer service is also top notch.
Thanks for the update, this helps me with planned purchase or not.
Glad it was helpful!
Isn't @Robert Field like part-owner of the Lightning Kayaks company? At the very least, I think he helped to design the thing.
I believe he is sponsored by accent paddles who is the parent company of lightning kayaks. I’m pretty sure he had a hand in designing and marketing the kayak as well.
I was leaning towards the Lighting, but no longer....the seat is disappointing and the old Hobie drives. I’d be willing to pay more for a upgraded drive and a more comfy seat.
To be 100% honest I personally didn't have a problem with the drive. Once I upgraded it to the turbo fins it seemed to work great for the short time I had the kayak. The seat was very uncomfortable in hindsight though.
I was able to sell mine on marketplace. I purchased mine as just an extra kayak in case one of my boys wanted to go out with me but they weren't showing a lot of interest in kayak fishing at this time so I went ahead and sold it on Marketplace. The only other issue besides the water I had was the turning radius. I never had an issue with the fins coming off but I upgraded mine with the Hobie ST fins. I can tell you from now on I am just going to stick with Hobie. #getoutthehousegofish
Thanks for the update! I loved my hobies.. I just wish they were more budget friendly. I ended up with a Jackson Kayak BIG RIG Hd FD which ill be doing a review on here in the next week or so!
Nice review :-) I hit that red button. #getoutthehousegofish
Thanks for the sub!
Don't think I need that kind of trouble. Sucks too because it's an american product that I would purchase but looks like they need to work on some things.
Thanks for the review, Im a big un too and take it all out on the Northern Pacific. 4 miles offshore is not where I want to start having problems
I guess i got lucky with mine i haven't had any problems.. im 200lb and carry alot of gear too sometimes even carry 8 gal bait tank for my chovys and sardines 3-4 rods garmin striker 7 cv plus all my rockfish tackle which is like 10 lbs...i do get water inside like your photos but only when i surf luanch and it usually balances out when i get the drive locked in..sorry you had such trouble 🎣🎣
How much does the guy weigh around that u sold it to ?
I’m not sure.
I’m a big guy too. How much do u weigh ?
I’m in the area of 300lbs
How about a live bait tank in addition to an ice chest and Jerry Cans for extra fuel.
We had a live bait tank on the back for a while. The issue we had was lack of stability when it was full of water and the ability to re board the ski. Out of the 20 or so set ups we had on this ski, the arches with the open deck worked the best for our comfortability.
@@BaDFiSh-ox3vs Have small ones on the back of a kayak that can hold a dozen mackerel around 5 gallons. Hobie sells two sizes
Great video I have seen other videos and I do not like the water inside and especially do not like their response. Like someone else mentioned try the Shearwater
Thanks for watching! I ended up getting a L4 Expedition paddleboard! I have a review of it if you would like to check it out!
My factory tracks are aluminum 🙃
Lucky!!
I’m not sure about this you’re talking about the water on the deck yeah that’s ridiculous but my thing is this is the first two kayaks that they’ve ever built right name how do you say I don’t know what kind but maybe somebody got some of that fuzzy math going on. Thanks 🙏
You were asking about the steering lever for the right side the reason they didn’t put it there is could you could buy it from their site for nine dollars . Nine dollars. I was going to attempt to say something cute and intelligent but that’s just too much work. $9.00 nine dollars. I know I’m being ridiculous but what’s with companies. Loyalty customers come from above and beyond excellent companies. I really want to say something like if you get this right is a company then you being the guy that purchased the kayak will tell other people about how great their kayak is..... I tried not to say it but I did anyway OK I’m gonna stop typing now. Hey brother great video awesome production very informative. Thanks 🙏🤭🤭🤭
I’m a big guy and I have a bona fide 127 I love it but was thinking about getting the lightning. I’m about 300 and that’s annoying you get that much water in the boat and you’re not even standing. We depend on good reviews when you can’t try out a kayak first. Thanks man
You should try the Vibe Shearwater 125, I'm 6 foot 2 inches about 265 and I have no issues with water, I haven't taken it out in the ocean yet but rivers are fine so far. I spent a little less than $2000 for the boat, x drive and their versa pod. I had an issue with the rudder and Vibe had a new one to me in 10 days. Great review.
I would love to get my hands on one to test it out. The closest vibe dealer to me is a couple hours away.
Chris what do you think about the Shearwater 125 after having it a few months? I am looking at getting my hands on one.
We love your work. You rock. 👍
Great honest review. Did you ever get with Lightning Kayaks and what was did they say about the water coming in the drive well?
Yes I did.. After contacting the manufacturer about my problems with the kayak, they refused to refund the full purchase price of it and instructed me to "sell it locally" or return it for an inflated shipping charge PLUS $$$ off for using the kayak.. and I'm not the first customer that was given this "solution".. IN ADDITION I was censored and my comments were removed from their facebook group about bringing up such an issue. Then I was privately messaged by one of their employees that run the group and was advised not to speak about warranty or return issues with their members. Would you buy from a company that does this to their customers? I won't do it again..
@@BaDFiSh-ox3vs poor customer service is a no go for me. Thank you.
This comment right here is enough to make me not want to buy from this company. Vibe has great customer service. I have one of there kayaks which got a crack in the hull. Partly my fault. I got in touch with them, sent a few pics and was shipped a brand new hual within a few days.
Do you think the Hobie 180 drive fits in this lightning model?
the 180 drive should fit. I dont believe there is a size change between the versions of the drives and this is a normal hobie drive well. I dont have a 180 drive anymore to test it but if i can get my hands on one i will let you know!
Great guy !!!
BaDFiSh4650, that was awesome. where did get all the bars and rod holders. most important are those electronic rewired.
The arches came from fishmaster, same with the rod holders and accessories. The ones from this ski are actually for sale right now if you are in the market.. the electronics on that ski were all wired to their own battery and fuse block.
Waw the pole is cool
So most of the stuff on your jet ski u sell?
Hey Devin, All of the products on the jet ski we used to sell. The arches were discontinued by fishmaster.
Damn I saw the boxes u sell so why buy it when I can get a rack for 369 and put plates on it vs the cooler with rod holders
Looks as good as a eating a steak with a chainsaw and spoon 😂🤣😉
Idk exactly what you mean by that... but thanks?
I’m curious to see what you might recommend for myself and my wife. I am a 39yr old dis. Vet. With mobility issues. I used to love fishing. Especially trout fishing in the mountains streams here in WV. My wife on the other hand gets board fishing really easily and would much rather read a book. So I thought that it might be better to go with a cheap John boat a small motor and trolling motor. Add a small canopy for my wife to relax under. Or find a way to buy a second hand jet ski and slightly modify it with one of the add on boat shells you just pull your jet ski into and lock it in place and bang! You gotta boat! No clue really though. I just don’t have the money to do anything new at all and more than likely I would be trying to trade things for whatever I end up with. Anyhow, sorry if this comes off like I’m telling you that I expect you to do anything at all. I imagine you work hard at your job trying to find the right stuff for customers. And I don’t mean for this to come off weird. It’s just a question I’ve had a lot of time to think of but no one with knowledge to bounce those thoughts off of. It would be awesome if you could help me figure out what to do, I do understand though if you can’t. I know you are probably a busy man with clients that can afford to ask you the above and pay you for it. So I hope this isn’t wasting to much of it. Best wishes from WV
Hey Johnathan, In your situation with the mobility issues and your wife liking to read and relax while on the water I would recommend going the Jon Boat route. Fishing from a jet ski it a pretty physical experience, and dragging something behind it would add to the setup and trailering when wanting to go out. To keep things simple its hard to beat a nice jon boat and for the price! you cant beat it. For example, I just set up one for a customer he purchased from a local sporting goods store for $400 scratch and dent! Good luck in whatever you decide will work best for you and your situation. Fishing comfortably is a very big concern for many people. Thank you for the question!
Watching from New Zealand. I also fish off a FXHO cruiser. Great rigs cheers
Love the black camo, looks amazing, Greetings from a fellow Jetski fisherman in New Zealand. Subbed to you
Thank you for the sub!! Stay tuned for some new videos coming soon!
@@BaDFiSh-ox3vs Will do just put my new video out today. Cold and wet here in New Zealand but its good to get out and there are nice snapper around.
First time I ever saw a dude poop gold while jumpin a wave on a jetski. impressive.
Brother, Ive been trying to contact you. we met 2 yers ago and you helped me get my jet skis from the beach. I want to go back to jet ski fishing and i need some of the equipment you sell.
There those things that surf boards have that help keep sharks away do you put those on.
No we don't we like to catch the sharks not scare them away :)
Wrap looks cool
Do they still sale the front arches?
Unfortunately these arches have been discontinued by the manufacturer
I tried contacting these people, nothing back from them.
these guys make a great setup .. If your handy you can make it your self - www.fishskiaustralia.com/
