I'm sorry, but I have a hard time seeing even what he said as sheltered. I was on my own since 14, few people taught me anything, I had to pay my own bills, buy my own toiletries and defend myself against constant threats to my physical well-being chronically for decades. You have parents that didn't pimp or starve you? Get you sent to endless programs or taken away? Spend your entire teenage life on your own or in programs? Taken away multiple times by CPS? Molested from toddlerhood to numerous adult SA's, with no protection or legal recourse? Lost a child due to medical negligence because they were prejudged and you were black, teenaged and desperately poor? Had to raise yourself and teach yourself everything you know, including how to drive, make money, build credit, get a GED and go to college, raise children, or even know how to boil pasta? I am just shocked that he called "paying bills since 18" the far end of the spectrum? You want to talk about not being sheltered? How often did you have to defend yourself against r@pists and murderers that your PARENTS forced you to stay with? Did you have to run away so you and your baby weren't KILLED? Had to defend yourself in the hood against gangs and crooked cops? He sounds somewhere in the middle of sheltered and completely alone and neglected. If you were able to stay with your parents, who weren't leaving you in life-threatening situations every day, you are at least somewhat sheltered. Not trying to minimize anyone's pain, but I feel towards him as he apparently felt towards his ex. I have never met someone who had financial support to even 18 who wasn't even remotely sheltered? Nobody paid my bills, I had to buy every car and pay all my bills myself. No one ever bought me razors, shampoo, tampons any of it. I had to figure it all out as a child, while being preyed on and abused from every direction. Not that it's a competition, it's certainly not, but I also think it's important to point out that trauma can affect someone much more deeply than this. If you had loving or supportive parents at all, if they ever did anything for you besides abuse you, you're lucky. I have no positive memories of my parents, and few of my siblings. My entire life was hell and trauma. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

No offense but professors dont know anything about the job market. The reality is they got lucky as their work was the flavor of the moment and got one of the very few positions. The cynical reality is that none pf the jobs with “transferable skills” require a phd and you would easily be better off not getting one in the first place as you will have lost 4-7 years that you could have spent building your career.

Universities and advocates always say you have transferable skills and yet the only way to get a job with a history major is to study another field first lmao. It is all a lie and a useless degree without something unrelated that actually gives you a damn job.

I've been shelterd and pampered my entire life. I'm in my 30s, and I have struggles dealing with issues others would consider insignificant. I still rather be privileged than risk losing everything I currently have just for the sake of independence or experience.

I feel like you can be raised sheltered and know it, but also being sheltered can make you unaware of how sheltered you are.

She's wrong about the Somali pirates. They do it because foreign ships come over to Somalia's shores and illegally fish there, and sometimes dump their waste onto it. So the people get upset and decide to hijack the perpetrators. Im sure there are other times where they just see a huge vessel nearby and do it out of opportunism too.

Thanks for sharing that info guys just be real careful you’re teaching students to bank 3° into the dead engine and it’s actually the opposite! You want to “raise the dead” engine 3° into the good engine otherwise you’re gonna roll over and kill somebody!

Not sure about the value of a history degree. Whenever I hear the words network, to me that sounds like code for know somebody that can help land the job which is what the job market has become.

Autopilot just doesn't trim the rudder, it uses ailerons to compensate the lack of rudder input, that's why disconnecting and out of trim it will throw back to you the uncompensated situation you left before. Just trim the plane before handing over controls to the autopilot.

This was super interesting and freshing. I'm a 3rd year History and English student and I don't regret my degree at all. It's a lot of hard work and there is defo some gatekeeping in industries happening so you have to work super hard to find your way into whichever field you want :D
