BookTube Newbie Tag | Because why not
I am left totally hopeless here in the US after the election. Can't believe we have to go through 4 more years of absolute insanity. How did it come to this?? All I can do is bury myself in my books & somehow try to think that there are better days ahead (?). Appreciate your optimism!
@@peterwaldeck6596 I get that. I stayed up half the night here in Slovenia, and when it became clear that Trump had won, I couldn't believe it. A lot of people in Europe were in shock. I hope the next years are not too hard on you over there in the U.S. We can get through it!
@@Madi_Str Shock is the right word! Simply dreading what's to come but nothing I can do about it. Yes, one way or the other, we'll get through (thanks)!
Very interesting list, thank you!
Oh I think a betrayal by a mentor would be a pleasant plot twist, I have never read such a story before. However, definitely don‘t need that in my own life :D

Great thumbnail! Who knew holding books was so difficult 😂
Thank you :) Sometimes books just don't want to be held...
I do NOT miss those all-nighters! Yikes. I still haven't gotten to even the 1st part of Count OMC yet - think that's a 2025 goal. Just finished The Circus of Dr. Lao & loved it. Hope the studies go well!
That sound like a great goal for the new year, though the farther you push it to the end the harder it will be... I sometimes have to do some all nighters to get my body to understand it actually needs sleep (in fact, the night this video came out I did an involuntary one) I've never heard of The Circus of Dr. Lao, but I will definitely look it up!
@@Madi_Str I have the same issue with Vanity Fair (and many other works). Just need to dive right in and go, I guess! And I'm not so sure you'd enjoy Dr. Lao. It's very much of its time (1930s) in language & attitudes & loads of Americana & a very dry sense of humor (though I find very humorous). Not even sure if it's fantasy or magical or what - just an odd little book that I thoroughly enjoyed. OK - hope this finds you well-rested the next day & not while you're up again all night ☺!
Can you recommend me a book about German politics?
Unfortunately, I can't think of a book in English, since I usually read them in German... But if you're interested in getting some basic knowledge, the Bertelsmann foundation has a TH-cam Chanel where they explain the system quite well in my opinion. If you're looking for information about current issues, the "Deutsche Welle" is a news site that also publishes english videos on TH-cam (I think it's called "DW News"), there you have some reports on what is happening right now, though they also produce news about world issues (usually from a more german perspective). Our System is quite complex, but those are always good places to start. Should I ever find a good book in English I will come back to you :D
@@Madi_Str Thank you, I will look them up. Good luck with university. Looking forward to the next video!
You're ambitious but realistic! Those are some mighty tomes that would take me quite awhile to get through. I don't have an end-of-year TBR, just stacks of books everywhere that offer a variety of choices depending on my mood.
I totally get not having an actual TBR, sometimes you just are not in the mood you were in a week or month ago

Wow - I can't even think how long it would take me to get through that list of books! Am impressed you can tackle such heavy subjects while pursuing your bachelor's degree. Kudos!

It is! Thank you :)
If I may ask, what awaits you in Slovenia? And change is always good!
I do a double-bachelors degree, the first part was in Germany for two years, but for my final year I continue in Slovenia. I will definitely miss Germany (especially since Passau is a really beautiful city), but I agree that changes are good.
@@Madi_Str What are you studying?
@@darth_spock6375 The first part was Governance and Public Policy (Staatswissenschaften would be the German title), the second part will be international relations, so in the end I will have obtained two degrees. The focus is on politics, but I've also had some courses in history, sociology, economics and law.
Best of luck! 🎉
Thank you :)
Awesome video!
Thanks :)
Yess similar experience for me, started reading and never stopped!!
New subscriber here. I totally agree about thr hardcover. If there's a new release I want to read, I will wait until the paperback copy releases.
Welcome! I find the time in a different way than you may need to. I'm not a student, so depression is more of a factor in how much I read than time. I think it's totally reasonable for you to tailor your reading to your school schedule. I write scripts so that I don't have to do much editing. That saves time.
I think it is always important to find a balance, especially if you struggle with your mental health. Reading should always enrich your life, and if you have to take it a bit slower, that is absolutely understandable!
Hope you have with these books and the readathon. :)
@@KittyAndTheBooks I'm sure I will :D
Usually, I never plan my reading list - as you do, just go with whatever appeals at the time. However, for September & October I want to try to read only horror novels or anything horror-related as I seem to have accumulated stacks of those and would like to make some major headway by Halloween!
That sounds fun
I read A Team of Rivals a few months ago and let me tell you my blood pressure SPIKED anytime General McClellan was on the page. Even as an American I wasn't super familiar with him before this book but now it's on sight. With every decision he made I was like, dude whose side are you on???
Yeah he was definitely an interesting character...
Reckon there are far too many books to all be properly acknowledged, but great joy to discover some that you truly love & treasure!
That's the great thing about reading - there are always more fantastic books than you will ever be able to know!
Great vlog! Thank you for sharing and being so honest. I LOVE the Count of Monte Cristo film and I’ve been wanting to read the book for a long time.. this was a great nudge.
Thank you :) I never watched the film, but I would definitely recommend you read the book

Hi Madi! I've been here nearly two weeks too.
Hi! I hope you're having fun :)
Cant wait to see what the channel brings! Btw, I love the Balkans book behind you, history is such a fascinating topic.
@@changesaloneendure1453 thank you :) I saw the book in a bookshop in Berlin, and bought it because I will be moving to Slovenia soon. I'm very interested in history and looking forward to reading it!
You might like the movie The Prestige. It's my favorite Christopher Nolan movie. I think it based on a book. I watched it twice in one day way back in 2018. God bless, Jesus saves! ❤❤❤
Probably my favorite Hugh Jackman movie too. I've not seen them all and I will never watch Deadpool.
I only watch movies when I'm sick, but I'll put it on my list!
I agree the painting cover was a lot better. They change the covers for movie adaptations to promote both and hoping some OCD people will buy both. 😂😭😊
I hate it so much when they do that
Do you write?
I used to write a lot, but I never published anything. Right now I just don't have the time... But maybe one day.
First like. 😊

Ahhh we Love Lockwood and Co!!! I hope you enjoy the books.
Weclome to Booktube! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos (and your accent is awesome!)
Thank you :)
I wish my open series list was this short 🤣 I blame Netflix for my interest in Lockwood & Co, can’t believe they cancelled it after only one season. I’m on book 2 of the Greatcoats, surprisingly funny.
I try to keep the list as short as possible, so I can concentrate on books that I'll actually like. I relly liked Lockwood & Co, but I never watched the series...
@@Madi_Str I wish I had self control, but I get too excited about new stuff. Saying that, I determined not to start any new series for the next couple years in order to at least try and close out some of them. The series was a lot of fun, it covers the first two books.
Hi!!! So the fandom is trying to save the show. Visit the website link in our bio to help us try and save it!
The Count has been on my wobbling TBR pile for eons, but you've intrigued me enough to nudge it closer to the top. Danke! And sorry about the unpleasantness along the journey. People can be, to put it mildly, simply awful to each other and all you can do is shake your head in disbelief. Happier travels to Slovenia!
@@peterwaldeck6596 thank you! The count of monte cristo can be a pretty daunting book due to its sheer size, but I think because it was split in two in my edition it was easier to get over the initial fear
@@Madi_Str I'll undoubtedly break it up with smaller "easy" reads along the way. Happy reading yourself!
Fascinating! Some interesting series there
Hi Madi 👋🏽. I found your channel through MJ. I'm a slow reader and I'm also #teampaperback. 😊. Welcome to booktube!
Thank you :)
i absolutely love the count of monte cristo, it's such a banger but it DOES have a few filler chapters. I dont much care for the rome part of the book. it's very satisfying in the last 200 pages when all the strings are tied up I found it very hard to follow all of the characters, especially the french socialites. Its probably better in french than in english though Would love to hear about the books you read for uni!
Yeah, the rome part was hard to get through... luckily I'm very interested in history so the society at least feels somewhat familiar. I'll probably include the books I read for university at my wrap up at the end of the year, but they were about international relaitions, statistics and sociology.
absolutely love the accent. i took on a very british-y accent as an english learner when i was like 12 and i honestly wish i hadn't. speaking more than one language is a massive flex and the anglophone world can shut up. I'm looking forward to the videos to come! x
Thank you :) I love being able to speak (and read) in more than one language, it opens up the world
Welcome to booktube!

Already love your channel (and your accent too - as a brazilian, I truly understand).
Thank you! I think it's important to not get to self-conscious about your accent, after all, it's still a foreign language
