By the grace of God 316

เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 11 ธ.ค. 2012
Just two old folks trying to survive as best we can in the modern era by accepting that we would have nothing but for the grace of God. We raise our own food (except for dairy and grains), gather our own heating wood, mill our own lumber, and fix whatever breaks in the process. Come along for the ride.

A different way to make firewood bundles

This isn't the video I wanted to make. I wanted to make one where I explain how our process for making firewood bundles differs from the way all the other youtube channels do it. But, the road noise had other ideas.

😎👍
6:19 I got the same model and it did not take long before I took off the security frame, you can replace it with a long bolt or whatever you want it just needs to push down on the button. take it off and you see how the button works. Hitting the security frame and shutting down is the 2 times if not 3 where I ended up starting the chipper up and it was being jammed so it hurt my belts and it could damage the clutch too, I believe ur familiar with starting it up and getting smoke so, if that happened to you and or getting jams in there due to this, Just remove the security bar and look for a change unless you genuinly believe you could make a mistake and trip in there. Normaly these are so long that even if you bend all the way inside you cant even reach the blades and im 183cm with long arms and I could not get all the way down so its gonna take some effort and a grown man doesn't just fall in so. For me I took it off, hope you look into that and just getting either a stop button on the side and connect the same wire or get a bolt for the button that's already there, that safety bar is horrendous compared to the larger model where the bar is on the Outside/down of the shoot instead of Above it.
by same model I mean as in design, this is a common design used on all the 10-12cm drum chippers w same security bar its all the same design copy pasta and shoot is the same shape as well. ppl just put diff colours on it and brands it as their chipper etc. You can look up Beaver L on google and just see the same thing in orange so.
hurts to watch how u constantly hit the security bar and turns it off. You had the chipper for 1-2 years, this took me less than 8 hours of use before I took away the security bar, how come you didn't think off it? due to youtube and what ppl are gonna say or ? just take it off if u believe ur not gonna do this as drunk or in a dangerous manner. You can buy a stop button and weld it to the side of the chipper and connect the same wire that u got from the security bar button it goes down the bottom, yeah you know it. I would just do that to avoid this headache cause its not just a small headache.
The new design now has wider wheel stance for better stability. Mine keeps tipping over behind the ATV so I look forward to getting the updated wheel kit. How can we tell when to stop pumping grease? Is there a second grease fitting on the shaft under the belt guard? I disconnected the safety system on the first day because even branches will trigger it.
Hi, @Gojigwr. Yes there is a second fitting under the belt guard. A couple of pumps is all the grease you should need. You will see it coming out around the shaft or it will stop taking grease.
Thank you for the video. Really helpful to see the steps and a few of the potential issues. I also appreciate your down-to-earth approach to things. Now to put mine together...
Hi, @toddblattner6003! Glad you found the video helpful. As I have told everyone, do your first oil change at about 2 hours run time. Mine was full of metal particulate. Enjoy using it.
Thanks for the video, PA should be proud of you :). I have my eye on this unit. I've been trying to decide between a stand alone unit like this or one that I can hook up to my little JD tractor PTO. I like the idea of a stand alone so that I can chip directly into pallet box for moving and dumping with my loader keeping my tractor free. The PTO units are a lot more money too. Your video confirmed to me that this unit will meet my need, I'm chipping mostly poplar so it should be no problem.
I know the manual called for a specific amount of oil but there was already an unknown amount in there. The left side access had a dip stick. If it didn't register I would have added enough until the dip stick read correctly. EDIT - Notice on the oil fill instructions it stated "insert the dipstick into filler neck WITHOUT screwing it in". Some manufacturers require it to be screwed in. Check your manual.
When I’m out in the field, keeping track of the flat washers and lock washers are a pain. I bought serrated flange nuts off of Amazon to replace them. They seem to hold well and I don’t have to worry about dropping a washer in the machine. The flange nuts use a 15 mm Wrench, which gives me enough room to use a combination wrench with a ratchet on the end. Much faster to takeoff. Thanks for your video.
Wow that was amazing great footage
The tires aren't driven, so the direction probably doesn't matter.
love it, i bet its fun and rewarding
US price - $4 AND an honsety jar. UK price - £25 or more and it'll be soaking wet most likely.
Dang $4 is low!
Thats a great idea! I'm always trying to find ways of reusing my old feed bags. Thanks for sharing !
Hi, @shawndouglas5532. Yes, they are a pain get rid of if you can't reuse them. Putting firewood in them keeps the wood dry when it rains. Some people return them, others use them as fire starter. Anyway, thanks for leaving a comment. May something truly amazing happen to, or for, you!
Good idea!I hope it's safe to stop and pick up a bundle,by sound of traffic seems You live next to highway.Hope i'm wrong. All the best!
Hi, @raimopuuvark. People just pull into our driveway to load the firewood bundles. The road is busy, but it is a 50km/hr zone on our side of the road. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. May you find enduring happiness.
Good idea . Hope your bundles go quick. Looks like nice dry firewood. Thanks for sharing. Craig. Pa.
Hi, @craignash4736. We only sell about 10 per week. While the road is busy, it isn't a tourist road. But, that's enough to make it worth while. Thanks for leaving a comment. May you have a simply glorious weekend!
Thanks for the video. Just finished a 10 hour service on mine. I don’t have any drum wear and my blades are still in good shape. One of the nuts holding the muffler guard on has broken loose, the spot weld around the nut broke away. Going to try to get it replaced. Has anyone done an oil change yet? I don’t see a drain plug, may have to pump the oil out.
Hi, @ianpitcher7693. On mine, the 2 oil drain plugs are inconveniently located between the engine and input & output chutes at the bottom of the block. I found it easiest to remove one of the chutes and install a catch pan. Otherwise, the oil runs everywhere. Hope that helps.
You can see them in this video when I add the oil before first startup: th-cam.com/video/WdqJV96_f78/w-d-xo.html
Also, my muffler guard broke at the same spot.
Your videos are awesome. My pull cord is stuck and maybe I have a wood jam?? I'll take off the chute and check. Your videos have been very helpful.
HI, @greatruralliving. I left a detailed answer to your question on the other video. Hope you find it helpful. Again, thanks for watching and for leaving a comment!
hi I wonder if you could give me some advice. I bought this unit and I think the engine is flooded. My pull cord is stuck. I checked the oil and gas started overflowing out of the oil reservoir once I took the oil cap off. Next step I am going to take the spark plug out. Can you give me some advice on what I should be doing / checking to get the engine back up and working and pull cord unstuck? Thanks
Hi, @greatruralliving. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. If you have gas in the oil, your carburetor float is stuck. Gas is flooding from the carb, into the cylinder, and down into the crankcase. If your crankcase is full of gas & oil, you won't be able to pull start the engine. There is no place for the piston to go. Do an oil change and put a few drops of oil in the cylinder before starting the engine. Otherwise, you may score the bore or burn the big end bearings. Hope that helps.
I forgot to mention that you will also need to remove the carb bowl to find out why the float isn't working properly. I suspect that there is either something between the float needle & seat, or that the float is "sunk" (has a hole in it & it is full of fuel).
Wasn't expecting a little tractor. Cool video!
Hi!Nice one again.
i bought one but im kind of new to woodchippers. after rotating the blades what is the best method of sharpening them? kind regards!
Hi, @thomascolauto. Depends on your skill level. Since you are asking the question, I would assume you don't have a huge amount of experience in that area. The best way to sharpen them is to take them to a place that specializes in sharpening items, like Moira Precision (www.moiraprecision.ca/). There is usually a place that sharpens sawblade or knives for industrial applications in most areas. Those places can usually make you replacement knives as well, if yours are too damaged to sharpen.
I think I just saw (1:04) in this video where the *missing/hidden* grease fitting is that I asked about in another video this morning. woot Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Have you done a video on greasing the unit up? My manual says to grease two locations but does not locate them on the machine in a drawing and uses, um, interesting, part names. One grease zerk is clearly visible on the outside above the drum cover you highlighted in this video, The other one is a mystery so far...
Hi, @fatbikejamie. I hadn't thought about do a video on that topic. Not sure it wouldn't be much of a video with just two grease zerks. I see you spotted the hidden zerk in the other video. Glad I could help. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment!
Thank you for struggling so we can struggle a little less. Figured I would procrastinate assembling my chipper by having a wobbly and enjoying your video, I think they like to mix sizes 16 mm /17mm so that if you only have one set of wrenches you aren't SOL.
Hi, @unclereefer37. Glad you found a way to procrastinate that was productive. As one of my ex-employees once said: never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid indefinitely. Anyway, thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. As I tell everyone, do your first oil change at about 1.5 - 2 hours of use.
@@ByTheGraceOfGod316 Just got it from my second day of chipping, I just had to say what a great machine! Definitely worth the money and then some, don't tell the managers at princes
Happens a lot on mine too. But luckily your model has the hinges on the feeder and you can open it without any help. Mine has 4 bolts that need to be removed and I always need help from someone else to hold the feeder. But I do have the electronic starter though to compensate 😅. Great stuff, keep posting videos about it! Much appreciated! Bless you!
Hi, @cosminurdea. Electric starter? Wow! That is an impressive, and unexpected, upgrade. Now I want one. My model won't accept an electric starter. Anyway, glad you found the video watchable. May you have a truly wonder-filled week!
Thanks for the video. I am wondering if there might be an easier way to remove the belt, along the lines noted here: th-cam.com/video/pfJ1feeOFm8/w-d-xo.html. If you wedged the two screwdrivers in the lower pulley, you might be able to lever the belt off without needing to loosen anything on the wood chipper. Just a thought...thanks again for a helpful video.
Hi, @phildoc7730. That might work and be easier, but I was trying to show how a person my age, or with reduced strength, might do it. Anyway, thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. May you have something truly awe inspiring happen to, or for, you this week!
Do u know why it keeps shutting down mine keeps doing that
Hi, @kush6049. Yes, I do. I keep hitting the panic bar with branches. That's the round bar that runs around the outside of the input chute. There is an engine kill switch connected to it.
@ByTheGraceOfGod316 thank you 😊 ill see if that's the issue today because I think I had the emergency switch unpluged and still did that, but I'll double check thank so much !!!
@@kush6049 Did you unplug the panic bar or the door open switch? The door open switch kills the engine when the input chute is open, like it is in the video thumbnail.
@@kush6049 There is also a low oil switch that will kill the engine if you are running low on oil.
Did you buy or make that deflecting shield?
I made it out of an old snow blower chute.
U rock thank you
Hi, @kush6049. Glad you found the video helpful and watchable. As I tell everyone, do your first oil change between 1.5 and 2 hours of run time. Enjoy!
Video was extremely helpful
Hi, @levihoward7305. Glad you found the video helpful and watchable. As I tell everyone, do your first oil change between 1.5 and 2 hours of run time. Enjoy!
Great video! Your quality control appears better than the factory.
Hi, @billpetley2632. That would not be hard, but my unit was built during the COVID excuse years. Anyway Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment! As I tell everyone, do your first oil change between 1.5 and 2 hours of run time. Enjoy!
Looks like a piece of dog dookie
With the motor mounted so high there's a high center of gravity. I worry it wound tip over going around a corner ir on a hillside.
Hi, @billa9954. Apparently Prince Auto agreed with you. The newer version has a wider wheel base. That said, the tires are not highway rated, so one shouldn't be going very fast around corners.
Could shred 2 in or a little bigger?
Hi, @nabillayoun. There is a video on my channel of me chipping a 4" log. Also, in the video of me shredding black walnut branches, I dump a chunk in that is 4" x 6" x ~8". The chipper had no problem eating it.
They have them on sale at princess auto until the 21st of April I'm thinking to buy one what do you think?
Hi, @nabillayoun. They are a great home-owner unit. I would not recommend them for commercial use, but for the typical home-owner with a bit of land, they are wonderful.
Just a side note: it is a chipper, not a chipper/shedder. It has no problem with leaves on branches, but it will not shred a lawn full of leaves or flowers.
At that rate of feed it will take you three months to chip 9 limbs.
Hi, @josephmccorkel7021. You are correct. It will eat branches much faster, but these were in a pile. It takes time to get one untangled and ready to feed into the machine.
hey how many points of grease it have ? many tnks !
Hi, @emyg! There are only 2 that I know of: one on each side, just forward of the wheels, for the bearings that hold the knife roller.
Great video series!
Hi, @shawndouglas5532! Glad you liked it. I have a Simpson's model 30 and a model 45 that I need to get running, but I can't say that I will make another series like this one. A couple hundred views doesn't get you anywhere near what is needed to get "monetized". I need 4000 watch hours in 365 days, or about 11 HOURS of viewing every day to get to 4000 hours. With people watching less than 5 minutes of these videos, the view count would need to be a couple hundred every day. Anyway, that's my problem, not yours. Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. May something truly-faith confirming happen to, or for, you!
Howdy!Interesting video once again.Beer drinkers still prefer pint over a half liter 😂If i remember right 1pint is 563ml.
Hi, @raimopuuvark! It depends on where you are. In the UK, there is 563 ml in a pint. In the US, there is 473 ml in a pint. That's why I prefer litres for fluid. Anyway, thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. May you have a wonderful week!
Allright,i didn't know US pint is that litlle😂We are on metric by allmost everything, except car tires, sawbars, subway sandwiches.I lived in UK for 7 years thats why in knew UK pint. Wish you all good!
Thank you so much for the demo! I havd a similar model but under different brand and my belts broke and the bold from the clutch disc got loose(found it in the belt cover) and was clueless as the manual did not cover replacing the belts. Your clip really really helped me! Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏

How does the saw deal with knots? On wood...how often do you have to sharpen? Tape...or just replacement...as always, thumbs up from me!😊
Do you foresee any issues with the drum gouging creating holes in the drum? I'm thinking about buying one in the next few days since it is 25% off right now.
Hi, @MeMyselfAndTouYube . I am hoping not. I have tried to order a replacement drum. I spoke with the product support specialist. The drum is technically available, but out of stock with no clear plan to re-order them anytime soon. You can go into your local PA and ask them to order one, and they will call you, if and when it comes in. Best advice is to check it just before the warranty expires and return it if it is worn out.

The old machines are what I’m enjoying the most. Keep using them to do what you like and I’ll keep watching. Thanks.
Hi, @charliepride55. I like the old machines as well, but it is hard to stay motivated to make videos when only a handful of people watch them. This 12 minute video took 6 hours to piece together, another 4 hours to render, and 2 hours to upload. Average viewing time: 2 minutes and 36 seconds. Less than 15% of the viewers made it to the end. As they say, a face made for radio, and a voice better suited to silent movies. May you have a wonderful day!
