Presently developing and testing public safety drone applications, including Project Ryptide - and automatically inflating life ring which can be dropped from a small drone, the size of a DJI Phantom or larger. We also have a version of Ryptide which can carry up to 4 life rings, and includes a ROLL/PITCH stabilized camera gimbal for FPV.

Project Ryptide Branford Ice Rescue RAW
This demo is from March 2014. It was cold and windy. We made 5 attempts to drop the life preserver into the hole and none hit the mark. It's much harder than you think.
The thermal camera would solve this problem complete. A human in water has an extremely clear thermal signature and the on board computer can automatically compensate for wind drift.
In this exercise we attached a rope to a firefighter in a survival suite and dragged him out of the hole and on shore. Weight with survival suit was nearly 300lbs.
Ice rescues are among the most hazardous and have caused many fire fighter and police fatalities.
This demo took about 3 hours and included famed drone lawyer and Fire Fighter Peter Sachs. It was an genuine ice rescue exercise, and the temperature was 12 degrees that day (which was for the safety of the fire fighters)
It was also a survival suit exercise for new recruits. I also have still photos of this event.

Great Video, and idea. Im interested in doing this to my DJI Mavic Air 2. Is it possible to just use the Rasberry Pi to record video from thermal on micro sd, and have gps coords on the video? Not really interested in transmitting the thermal image back, as its limited on tx distance with generic wifi, and adds more weight. Would be awesome to be able to just plug seek thermal into DJI drones USB port for recording, telemetry, and video transmission on DJI Ocusync.

Please re-do without the background audio - very distracting, obviously you were using hands free (no close microphone) as we can hear echo in the relatively small room. Appreciate the information but will checl for info else where. Thanks for the effort.

can I ask you, if a person totally covered their body with a space blanket, would a heat seeking drone be able to pick up a thermal image of heat, or would the person become invisible to the heat seeking equipment?
Camouflage against thermal cameras has become a much deeper topic these years. Possible but is a lot of work. Something a space blanket will achieve to a very limited extent.

Yes I know - this video is 3 years old. If you want a thermal camera for your drone that Rivals that $6500.00 FLIR let me know at my email address at the end of the video. If not, have a nice day... I made that video 4 years ago in 30 minutes and it got 25000 views . The camera works, our vidoe doesn't.
I know it loud and a bad video but I've sold more thant 80- of these because they wor and are 1/5 the price of a FLIR. We're trying to raise captial right now to sell these. If you hate the music that much don't by one. Instead spend 6,500 on a FLIR for the same thing.

We're going to make a new video soon - we're using this thermal camera and other software on board a Matrice 100 drone to locate a person in the water and deliver a life preserver to them autonomously. ABC News will be doing a story about it. Today I work full time as a drone programmer for a fortune 50 company, so I just haven't had the time to update the video

I know, sorry about that. It's a REALLY crappy video, and I made it in an hour about 4 years ago. I HAVE made a ton of progress on the thermal camera though. I don't know why people keep stumbling on this video, but I've sold more an 100 of these cameras cause they work and they are 1/3 the price of the equivalent FLIR. In fact, I used these cameras to get into the DJI Developer Challenge in 2016. Didn't win, but it was an honor to make the top 25 out of nearly 1800 applications.
for Drones you can mount them to the Autel X-Star and the phantom 3 and phantom 4 hypedphoto.com/dronemods/product/dji-phantom-4-flir-one-mount/ very sturdy mount platform.
You certainly can, but the FLIR one is only 80x60 resolution. I have a new version that uses the Seek Compact Pro and is 320x240 resolution. I can print a 3D mount for just about any drone. So far I have mounted is on every Phantom, 3DR Solo, Inspire, Matrice 100 & 200, and a number of less known drones. Hi Jason. We're finished with our beta test, and now have a much more functional system which we are developing into a new product. Email me at billrockus AT gmail .com, and I can send you more information. We now have 3 versions of the camera, and several ways of sending the thermal stream back to a ground station. The users interface is entirely web based, and transmits via WiFi, 4gLTE or 900mhz radio. Transmission range is 15 miles via 900mhz, and unlimited via 4G LTE. WiFi is less than 2000 feet.

Thanks for your comments. Unfortunately I know how to write software to reduce the price of a thermal camera from 6500 down to 1000 with the same level of quality. I'm just bad at make video. I've sold more than 700 of these so far cause they work as good as the FLIR for 1/5 the price.

If you mean USB 2 or 3 it will work with either.The stream does not use much bandwidth.
