A friend of my family who is no longer with us lived at Alison homestead as a child and attended school there. He was an older man, I’ll never forget the stories he’d tell me and my brother about jumping down the well as a boy and I asked him how he got out and he said the other kids, they’d all pull each other up. Such an amazing history to Alison Homestead 🙌🏼

So I looked at the website and it's hard to see whether they've done much else after this. It seems like the just the bureaucracy and number of organisations involved to build a few rooms for some people means nothing much gets done. An easier way to up this type of housing supply would be do broaden the scope of the exempt development legislation and let people build class 1 buildings like this without having to go through the rigmarole of council planning approval. It would require no charitable foundations to fund them or tafe students to build them or consultants to manage it all afterwards, the state government could do it with the stroke of a pen and millions of people would build these tiny homes in their back yards themselves. All that needs to happen is for government to get out of the way.
