I make videos about pretty much anything tech-y. Cassette tapes, servers, electronics, computers, high voltage, you name it. You'll see it all here!
Current Limiting a Transformer with a Bucket of Water
I wouldn't reccomend anyone to do what I do in this video, mixing electricity with water is never a good idea. I also forgot to mention that on top of the water being energized, it will also release flammable hydrogen gas and (if you use baking soda) poisonous chlorine gas. Really, just don't try this at home unless you're competent and understand the risks.
Sometimes it might not look like it, but I do know what I'm doing and I don't want anybody watching this video to get electrocuted.
Play safe,

Testing a Failed Electric Motor With a Megaohm Meter
มุมมอง 1842 ปีที่แล้ว
Just a quick little video. Turns out the idler motor for my rotary phase converter is completely toast, so I'll need to postpone the project until I can find a new motor.
Testing My Rotary Phase Converter
มุมมอง 1.7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A rotary phase converter is a device that uses a large 3 phase induction motor to generate 3 phase electricity from a single phase electrical service. In this video, I have my phase converter temporarily set up for testing.

Unboxing an HPE Nimble Storage Array
มุมมอง 1.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I got the rare opportunity to unbox some very expensive enterprise hardware. It'll be quite a few years until I can expect to afford hardware like this in my personal server rack.
The Worst PC Design Ever?
มุมมอง 2283 ปีที่แล้ว
I rant about how I hate clamshell style Dell PCs from the early 2000s. Also a face reveal. Let me know if you think that there are any semi-modern PCs with a worse design than this.

Server Rack Tour & Adding More Storage
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Not an April Fools joke! A quick low-effort video showing off what I'm running in my server rack. I also add some more hard drives to my disk array and configure a storage pool in Windows Sever 2019. It's not a very good tutorial for that though, just me messing around :) Song Used: th-cam.com/video/NLuj6nyEjQA/w-d-xo.html

Repair & Tour of the First Cassette Tape Ever Manufactured
มุมมอง 1553 ปีที่แล้ว
The title is clickbait.. I do not know if this is the first ever cassette manufactured, however it is an extremely early example of a cassette tape. This tape was manufactured before the cassette was publicly available, and was went out with cassette recorder demo units for consumers to review before the format hit the market. In this video I fix the tape so I can see what has been recorded on ...
HP DL380p G8 Overview + Upgrades
มุมมอง 16K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I do some upgrades on my favorite server, the HP DL380p G8. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments if you're considering buying this model of server! The song is "Vibes On a Plane" by Smoothmove Sherlock: th-cam.com/video/NLuj6nyEjQA/w-d-xo.html The second episode of TheSMP is uploaded here (can't find the first one lol, second one isn't too great): th-cam.com/video/l1p5kxHS6uM/w-d-xo.h...
Great video... Unfortunately I bought a Proliant ML350E Gen8. I always wanted one, bought it for a song, only to find out that the NAND chip was shot and ILO and Inteligent Provisioning and RAID were shot. I had to buy a third party HBA to get RAID working, but I still don't have ILO.
thanks !!!!!!!
how much did u pay?
You coming back to YT?
Hmmm... a small detail I just noticed. When you were running around in the BIOS, there was a menu where you can disable cores and "6" was in there, this means that something was disabled. Why? Was that just a setting "left there" or done on purpose?? If so, why?
The algorithm suggested this video. It was providence. I had been searching for iLO update content but found utter trash. This was straight to the point - no filler. Many thanks to you, sir. I recently aquired my first Enterprise Server, DL360p (i'll take a peek at your video). I've toyed around w/ self hosting on consumer gear for years but started suffering from hardcore imposter syndrome. Thanks again for the solid content. You haven't posted in a while. I hope you know that your stuff is still helping people.
Do the chickens have large talons?
I laughed hard at the paste application being blurred out :D:D:D LOL Don't ever let anyone give you crap for somerhing you do... they should buy the same unit and apply their paste just as they would like to :D Nice video btw.
Thanks nerd. Jk love the video. You sound young so I'm impressed. Keep up the good work.
I've got this same server running under my desk. Love it.
How are you able to sit in the same room as the server? :D It's soo loooooud :D Got a 360p (1U) , but I keep it far away :D
@@The-Weekend-Warrior I flashed a custom version of iLO that allows me to control the fans via the ssh console.
could you please give me name of the expansion card (PCIe) with 2 ssd drives on board?
Where did you get the rack? How High is it ? Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
the channel limit is for ecc unbuffered, i am sure you knew but forgot the word unbuffered. also, it isnt sdram that will let you use 128*6, its specifically LR _ load reduced dims. this server wont run SD
Does the 380p have 2 8x slots and 2 16x slots? It has 4 slots, wheras the 1U has 2, right? Is it the same staggered riser plug? Not that I would put (or need) that in my 1U, I am just curious. ... " you do get more expansion with the 2U server". ... I guess that answers my question. lol. Surprising to hear the 1U is quieter. Not normal. Could be the fan profile making that difference.
hey moe a new way to make fireworks yuk yuk yuk yuk yuk
Did you have a other yt channel? Owens Tech Workshop
Any vendor recommendations for the advanced iLo licensing? I can’t use the iLo app after POST. Need license
1:16 lmao I was looking who coughed
Nice, i got one, cant install OS, and cant swap the CPU, seems Bios cant recognize, cant do nothing on the media issue and blind managing iLo, can you help me ? got the SFF and 32 Gb RAM
How is it that the start capacitors are on like 18 gauge wire while the motor is on 6 gauge?
annoying background "music"
heres my yearly question. when will you return?
where did you go beautiful boy
You're amazing 😮😮😮😮
You’re pretty tough on your components. Also: Have you read about ESD?
I got the 25bay sff. wish i would've went with the 12bay LFF at times. SFF drives are more expensive and trays are a bit more as well. Note: i got updated bios/ilo not too long ago. getting Ilo advanced is also nice too. (ebay) I came to see how you did the thermal paste and update the cpu... good to see that the install is the same as the x79's... but more specifically i wanted to see your heat sink goop install down vote!!!! (/s) i'm ordering dual 2650l v2's only 1.7ghz but 40% lower tdp and 2c/4t more per cpu. got more ram on the way.. if it every comes to give me 256gb and hopefully 9 more drives to give me 22 1tb SAS... Im very happy with this machine. I like it better than the power edge's. wish i would have splurged and gotten a g9. esxi7 isn't happy with gen8 out of the box anyway thanks for the video!
thanks
little man, when will you return again :)
Idk
Lol funny video
Remove the TPM module from the server and the download will be faster, the screen shows that the module is not being initialized. In iLO, you can see that the TPM module is deactivated.
How much you pay for your electric bill
Way less than he’ll make in just the first month of his career. That is a qualified guess because I’m reminded of myself through this guy. Spend your money wisely is my suggestion.
@@MR-vj8dnI would certainly hope his salary is higher than his electric bill lol
You sounds really young! To be honest this is the best video on this Server.
Keep up with your interests mate! The nimble is good piece of kit any enterprise experience is well appreciated in the industry
Gotta love the lanp cord feeding your setup 😂
Nice server overview, I just bought 3x DL360p Gen8 + 3xDL380p Gen8 + 1xDell 610 on an auction at a total cost around 250 euro(270 usd). I too plan on playing around with the servers for testing HA setup in proxmox :) Keep up the good work :)
That was a good price. Last Friday I bought a DL360p G8 for 250 euros alone 👍🏻
I know you said not to do this, but I’ve been using a MOT for a while now for fractal wood burns, been wanting to limit the current on it and I have a couple other transformers but I haven’t felt like fully learning what I need to do in order to use one as an inductor, I also just don’t feel like finding the correct wire out of my millions of wires To make one myself, Then like a gift from God your video got recommended to me, I’ve done a lot of stuff with electrolysis rust removal so im pretty confident i can replicate your setup pretty good 👍 tysm
It’s fine, if you’re comfortable doing this stuff it’s unlikely you’ll hurt yourself. Just be careful with the fractal wood burning, that and MOTs kill a lot of electronics hobbyists.
@@owenstech5644 yea i know thanks, I use a relay With a 12 V foot pedal, Let me stay back pretty far and turn it on and off easily based on the heat, If anything ever does go wrong you won’t clinch on the foot pedal either, you’ll just hopefully fall off of it
What enclosure?
Neat transformer
Wow rack mount vs floor model differs a lot.
Good Content! I would suggest do decrease the background music with 6dB.
Is there ilo remote console for mac? how can I connect If I don't use windows?
doname uno para un proyecto jj
Setting up mine now 20hp idler to 3phase distribution panel. I bought a pre assembled enclosure that just required 220 in and the idler to be connected. The idler fires up and runs smooth. I would like to use mulimeter to determine which leg from the idler is the manufactured leg because WNY said it needs to be connected to a specific terminal. Also using a multimeter to test for voltage to to 3 phase panel do I test each lug w/ground or on legs themselves like you tested tranformer output. TY
12:00 password hack - Thanks!
Hi, Owen . I need to knows why in the label of the servers i could read DNS name. It may be used to access remotely the server if my internet connection dont have an public IP?
can you show us how you install a diffrents cables, thank you
Have you ever thought about running Proxmox on one of your servers?
Many thanks!
Thanks for the video, i was looking for video to easy I can understand
