    Great overview!!

  • @you_dont_know_me_sir

This is my opinion, so feel free to disagree: The only thing in which Austin wins is the housing. And I don't just mean the price of homes but *availability of new home*. In Seattle metro area, they have simply refused to build new homes, literally. So by the demand-and-supply principle, home prices are shooting to the skies. Essentially, by refusing to release land for building new homes, Seattle is telling people to f**k off, which almost hurts the feelings of people who love Seattle and want to live there. Texas is building hundreds of thousands of new homes, so home prices are cheaper and that is literally the only reason people are choosing Texas over Pacific coast. The Pacific-coast states are showing people middle finger, when Texas is saying welcome. Let us not kid ourself that anyone will put up with the heat, humidity and bugs in Texas, if Pacific coast environment Nazis would release land for building homes. The availability of new homes is the only aspect in which Austin wins and I think deep down, most people know this.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I totally understand where you’re coming from. Austin’s housing market does benefit from more availability, but people also come here for the culture, job opportunities, and the lifestyle. While Texas heat can be intense, people find the trade-offs worth it. Everyone has their preferences and it’s great that we all have options based on what we value most!

Thanks for the comment. The idea of saving money by not using an agent is a common consideration, but it’s important to look at the bigger picture and consider all the factors involved. 1. Homes sold with the assistance of an agent, typically sell for a higher price than those sold by owners alone. 2. Real estate agents have access to marketing tools and platforms which increase your homes, visibility and give more exposure which equals more offers and a potentially higher sales price. 3. Selling a home requires numerous legal documents and processes. An agent ensures that all paperwork is correctly completed and submitted, reducing the risk of legal issues or costly mistakes. Hope this helps!

Now explain why so many Austinites are moving to Lockhart and other small cities in central Texas. Californians turned Austin into San Francisco v 2.0. I was there since the '70s - mid '90s. It is not the same town.

Excellent review! Btw - taking a spoonful of local honey works. Like most newcomers, I suffered a lot when I moved here in 2009. I used Zyrtec and Flonase to deal with the immediate effects of pollen and took the honey to "immunize" myself long-term. It took about 6 weeks to start seeing the results but they were dramatic - so much so that my then-wife got mad at me because she was suffering and I (the one that had allergy sensitivities) was not. Eventually my body adjusted and I only take Zyrtec out of habit nowadays. 😊

I feel your pain when it comes to allergies. My husband suffers in a big way and I hate seeing him have to constantly take meds for it, but it’s the only way to keep it down. He does take our local honey, but he’s also asthmatic so I think it’s a bad combination all the way around. Thanks for your comment and feedback!

Interesting. I'm in Charlotte. And the cost to buy seems about in line with here. But your rent seems cheaper than here.

Keep in mind that median sales price is the sales price of a list of sales where the scales are arranged in order from lowest to highest. So in a list of 11 sales, it would be the sales price of house number six, which has five lower priced sales below it and five higher priced sales above it. Same with rents. These are just averages. Hope this helps!

A great city for those with the incomes to secure housing in the good neighborhoods. But the keep austin weird movement is officially dead. If you're an aspiring artist or creative in texas you're much better served in a city like Houston where cost of living is far more reasonable.
