Checkerboard Cake
I recently tried this trick based upon a video from British Girl Bakes. th-cam.com/video/cC948gE8-nY/w-d-xo.html
Unfortunately, on the way to the car, the cake dumped upside down on the floor. I admit it I cussed. I made this video to document how to make a checkerboard cake.

Well played man not bad
The Master of the Telecaster ❤
whammy bar? We don't need no stinkin' whammy bar!
This is a tune that most guitarists wouldn't and shouldn't touch. Jeff's versions will never be equaled. Having said that, Greg did an awesome version with his own stamp on it. Jeff would have loved it.
Agreed
Gregory I salute you sir
came here trying to steal even just one of Greg's genius phrases to put into my vocabulary...and now Ive decided to play bass
I feel much as you do. He said in an interview that that is how he did it. He would hear something he liked and worked to include it in his vocabulary. So that is what I am doing. I get one thing from Greg like the opening riff from this tune. Then I grab one of those pull bends on the A string from Chris Buck. Then I steal the opening Garcia riff from Mississippi Half Step. Then find a riff from Charlie Parker. Fit them into to whatever you are working on now. Suddenly you hear things in a different way. Don’t give up. I know you can become yourself.
the part at 4:28 is absolutely monstrous
I'm fortunate to live close enough to Milwaukee that I see Greg/KMT regularly. When he treats the audience to slow blues it is truly mind & body bending. Chiefs Blues is one of my favorites, especially when paired with Red House.
Some where Jeff is smiling.
Incredible performance.
Quelle technique et quel humour. BRAVO
El mejor cover de la canción que he escuchado. Potente, sonoro y con drama.
And so it was, the gristly, gooey goodness of Chief’s Blues was descended upon the musical masses in a fiery fusillade of furious fingers. And, inevitably, as the grins stretched ear to ear, all was right with the world…
Shenanigans aside a moment, this is a truly amazing performance. So glad I was fortunate enough, by quirk of scheduling, to see the KMT twice this year in different venues.
@@lordstanley34 I saw the band all 4 times on the January Southern California visit. I finally got to record this the final session on my new video camera. My objective was to record Greg's performance as closely as possible. As a guitarist, I want to see the guitar performance. Toby and Dylan are great. The band is tighter than... However, I wanted to record all the guitar madness.
@@NicholasStein job well done, this is one of those moments where Greg was hitting on all cylinders - it would have been great to see live, but much obliged for the post here.
Holy shit!!!! Spectacular 👍👍👍
started kind of weird but once it got going it was smokin
I think he's a great guitarist. Unfortunately he hasn't come within a mile of the subtle nuances Jeff Beck played. There's a huge difference in playing and feeling. I know I'm going to receive grief for my opinion but listen carefully to the half bends and drops by JB and then listen again to this. If you can't relate then you are really not feeling the music.
very correct, no doubt Greg is an exceptional player, but, yup the but thing...this piece is not demanding virtuosity nor complex solidians, And thanks for saying it @flyjuice9140, but many covers can't seem to get a grip on the emotion, the humility, the nuances, the pain and the triumph rolled as one. Closest i heard was Gary Clarke in the tribute for... yah, there was some tear or 2 on his guitar there. Heartfelt. Just my 2 cents.
Well there was, and will only ever be, one Jeff Beck. Saw him a dozen or so times from 1976 through 2021 in various places. Jeff Beck is hands down my favorite guitar player and by a very long shot. No one ever pushed the boundaries like Jeff. He never stagnated, always found something new and exciting to say with his guitar.
"underwater" tone at commencement....grrrrr...
I do not care for that leslie pedal either. I do not think it captures the nuance of a real leslie.
Playing a neck thru Tele, like a firebird with that raised up center block for the pickup, tight band they sound amazing.
I agree. I am in gear lust for one. Here is the specs on the Gristlemaster. reverendguitars.com/guitars/greg-koch-signature-gristlemaster/

Holy cow 🐮!
GC is never given his due
Great work Nick! Mr. Kochery did this tune justice!! These boys were lit UP!! Thanks for the share!!
Glad you enjoyed it
It is easier to compose an original song than try to imitate the playing style of others. Kudos to those who imitate the nitty gritty notes of songs. They are better than those that just write songs simply because they can nail the details. People are amaze when they hear a guitar player who NEVER play the same way on a song/music twice. The truth is he forgot the EXACT NOTES he played in the original; so he has to improvise & ends "not playing the same way on a song twice." Not really impressive. What's interesting are those who cover the original songs NOTE-BY-NOTE. Job well done on this cover!
So you have this crap for music they push on the masses and then this guy is playing in some litte bar . What an absolute shame
As a fan I am happy to be able see him in that intimate kind of venue. They do not seem to mind my taking a video either. I agree that most mass music in the 21st century is pretty bland. However I am old enough to remember that commercial music was pretty awful even back in the 1970s; which is regarded as a peak for rock and roll. I blame auto tune and quantization.
Greg has so much fire and intensity yet so much feeling in his playing...
He does it without a whammy bar!!!
Sheeeez.... doing Jeff Beck on a Telecaster.
And no whammy bar.
H.Shit... S.of.a... fabulous
Holy cow. ❤️

Woody Mankowski is a MONSTER vocalist, wow!
Greg is one of the Best guitar players in the World today ! What a pleasure to see him in action ! He owns that tele ! Thank you !
Well, he owns A tele. This green one is mine. I lent it to him, to get his thoughts on a new pickup combination I thought up. He said it was ok - not as much of an endorsement as I had hoped for. C’est la vie, eh?
Jack’s Sugar Shack! I was there. The band killed, Greg aside from being an astounding player, also happens to be funny as hell. He should consider doing a stand up album, or at least a live album with his on stage banter.
Nothing short of Amazing!! Pure liquid gristle from the Gristlesquatch!
You got that right! This was his opening tune on the January tour.
Love this, Greg Koch on such a canvas for an explorer as great as him - this is as good as it gets! Also Michael Leisure in the back - great, great drummer!
Someone else asked if that was Michael Leisure on the rail. I do not know him so I could not confirm.
I'm looking for one of your videos, however I can't find it,
Which one? You can check my channel for the rest of the Greg Koch videos. I have not posted the Blues show from last Sunday yet. Editing was a bit tricky. I will let you know when they are available.
Greg is from Milwaukee Wisconsin. Used to watch him play all over the East side of town often for low to no cover charge. He's a fine guitarist and an ever better person. Super nice and kind!!!
that was epic!
Nice!
There are many great guitarists in this world. This Greg Koch my friends is beyond great. The licks, tone, style, phrasing, dynamics, rhythm, groove, style, slide, picking and among everything else are phenomenal. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Couldn't agree more!
Thank you for this outstanding spectacular and mind blowing performance… I am so glad I clicked on this video!!! I dunno if I’ll be able to make my telecaster growl like this but I can assure you I will certainly work on many of you techniques. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Awesome!@!!@
the band is on fire the grissle gel is, it just is rkon
Another great performance .great slide playing by the great man himself Master of all
I had no idea he was this good. Much respect mr Koch.
Haha, you're in for a treat if you decide to learn how good this fellow is. 😊 Best to you & enjoy.
Well, now you know. 😉
Toda la onda
My opinion: only Dave Gatton and Roy Buchanan played like this man ... too good Greg, too good
Great playing and awsome rendition of Beck's master piece and that's what living for eternity means.
Are those pinch harmonics?
Yes. Here is how he does it. th-cam.com/video/GtsL7Njjj2g/w-d-xo.html Have fun. Nick
I also recommend this video for his explanation of chicken picken and Travis Picking. th-cam.com/video/Y_SlPtbsnSI/w-d-xo.html
@@NicholasStein Wow you read my mind thx! Now one more mystery you think JB did it with his fingers without pick on the record?
@@frabber321 I started with why GK can do it without a whammy bar. ICBW but I think Blow By Blow was recorded with a Tele with no whammy and a pick. JB has always used his fingers even with the yardbirds an switched to using his thumb more over time. He still used a pick from time to time. Wes Montgomery used his thumb. Most flamenco players use their hands instead of a pick. In my own playing I have been using fingers more and more. But I still use a pick. It’s the sound, not the technique. JB had the sound. GK has the sound. It’s all good.
@@NicholasStein thank you so much!
