    With the right jigs and templates, you can make pretty much anything. And it makes it so much easier to repeat cuts. Good video, dumb asses.

    I tried a jig on my router table and destroyed my test pieces and modified my design because of it. The only question I have is what width dado did you use? I'm definitely going to try this one because I've been dying to fancy up my boxes some.

    • @WoodShopby2DumbAsses
      @WoodShopby2DumbAsses 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I used a 3/8 inch dado however you can use any size as long as your pin matches the dado width. Thanks for your viewership and question/

    What minwax stain did you use??? Navy ? Barn red??? Outstanding job

    • @WoodShopby2DumbAsses

      All minwax- red is crimson formula. Blue is Navy Blue and white is latex paint that I wipe off when wet

    • @WoodShopby2DumbAsses
      @WoodShopby2DumbAsses หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually print out several copies from other folk's wooden flags to use a template and liked what I saw. As I stated a couple times in the episode there really isn't a right or wrong in the design as long as you like it. That being said, I am not sure any two of these flags are exactly alike.

    I have just came across this video and I just wanted to mention that 2 things, first is I don't know if you came across it yet or not but you may want to add an additional piece of wood to the back side of the sled (the section facing you) you may see where the blade has cut all the way through. Some feel safer with a piece of 2x4 or something going length wise out the back just for a little extra protection when cutting smaller pieces. The second is eventually you may want to replace the piece that you put your rail in. If later on at some point you decide to buy after market accessories you may find that that board will not be tall enough or wide, one in particular I can think of off the top of my head is a flip stop, if you decide to upgrade to upgrade to an aftermarket flip stop later on that board is not tall enough. Nothing important or a game changer just letting you know

      @midwesthuntingoutdoors 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dirty Curty excellent observations and suggestions! I left the "Safety Block" off because I thought it was over-kill, however you can never be too safe and I should have mentioned that in the episode. My largest regret is making the sled too wide and wished I would have used 16 x 16 or 16 x 12 plywood for the base. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

    Why are you so deliberate and slow with the miter saw? I usually just take it all off in one plunge. If I'm doing it wrong, I'd like to improve.

    • @midwesthuntingoutdoors
      @midwesthuntingoutdoors 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I find slow and soft reduces splintering and tear out. On wider boards I will move the miter saw back and forth several times to take smaller cut until completely through the board. On hard woods it isn't as large of an issue however on pine and other soft wood tear out is a problem.

  • @PiercesPerfectPieces

    My question is how did you get the live edge (bark) on the frame 🖼️?? Did you just build a frame & then glue some bark around it, or did you have strips you were able to cut (with the bark already on it) to the right thickness?!?! 🤔 🤷‍♂️ None the less Great Flag/Concealment Box & Great Video! 👍

    • @midwesthuntingoutdoors
      @midwesthuntingoutdoors 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The frame is built from scrap wood gathered from a local lumber mill. The pieces are edge trimmings and come with the bark attached.

    These are really cool but I wouldn’t say it’s concealed necessarily. For instance, I could easily imagine a guy breaking into a house and noticing a box mounted on the wall and just obliterating it with a hammer and getting the firearm(s) inside. Very suceptable to a smash and grab. Still very cool though!

      Don I think you have two options: 1. Hide items under lock and key and make it hard to get in 2. Hide items in plain sight. My use is more gun safety in a household. Thanks for you comments and viewership.

    So you only use the Brad nails to hold stripes together, no glue? Hahaha, I guess not, if I’d have waited lol

    • @midwesthuntingoutdoors
      @midwesthuntingoutdoors 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, only brads no glue. I then will glue the 3 or 4 support boards on the back and reinforce with brads. That being said, I have recently experimented using only glue (Conceal Gun Case episode) and it worked awesome. (check out that episode)
