Midwest outdoor activities for your weekenders and enthusiasts. I love to fish and canoe in the Midwest. I cover everything from fishing to paddling to guns to photography. I love the outdoor life and now found a love for making videos. My preferred method of fishing is fly fishing especially for smallmouth bass and northern pike. I like making random videos on random things and have many inspirations that cause me to do so. Please like and subscribe. Thanks for reading!!!

Safe, if you want to swim
I run a Honda 9.9 hp on my aluminum drift boat here in Oregon. No speed record set with it, but it works great. 2.5 gal tank last forever. You hit all the high points in this video, well done.
The best part about times like this is when hes 20 or 40 and like hey dad u remember that tiny jeep i used to drive❤
I use a 3.5 hp on my 16' Hyde to troll small lakes in Wyoming. It will get you around better than rowing especially when the wind comes up.
Need more snow!!
Great information
the narration was incoherent
🤷♂️
@@MidwestFrontier You looked it over and still posted that to me? It said "250 dollars spent on plants from 20 dollars veggies." English is your primary language and that makes sense for you?
@@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep watch again... "for" not from I think my English is just fine
@@MidwestFrontier Watch again for what it's nonsense the context doesn't change yet you think switching for and from suddenly makes it coherent lol. What does "250 for plants for 20 in veggies" supposed to mean honey?
@@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep 🤦♂️ I bet you're fun at parties
I’ve heard you need like 3 of those things for it to be safe 😅
Oops my bad ::..::••:.::..::..•••.::.• here y’all go read this 😂😂
This is the best test for a good welding maak cause if it doesnt work right your seeing spots still
Nooo welding masks do not block the entire spectrum of sunlight - even light outside of the visible range can be bright enough to blind you, and by the way, your retinas have no pain sense, so you wont feel it until the damage is done
Big facts. My miller was great
What was the tinting rated for? Usually 6 on a mask
This is what I used for the Solar eclipse😂
You absolutely should not do this! It is not rated for the sun. You have to buy special glasses and they are cheap also.
I think I’ll use my helmet designed to block out light quite literally brighter than the sun…
@@trage9395the light from the sun is different from the light from welding. Your welder isn’t producing gamma rays.
@@trage9395 The other comment is right. It may "look" dark enough, but all the harmful radiation is still getting thru to your eyes
@@austin8773mhm i think the 10 seconds looking at it will not cause any notable eye damage. Perhaps it will, but ive yet to feel any ill effects
Same 😂 my harbor freight one actually worked but the expensive one wouldnt stay shielded
Turn down the darken sensitivity and crank it up!
I tried it my helmet isn't dark enough
I have a Clakacraft Eddie standard and have had some bad experiences on some bigger western rivers 20+mph wind straight on the bow rowing , it sucked . Bought a Honda 5hp with basically the same results you got . Depending on loading and CG the boat performs differently . It’s usually me and my wife and I take the rear lean bar out because it’s easier. So now I plan some of my trips to use the same ramp I put in on to take out , no shuttle needed. Putting the motor on really expands the boat’s capabilities. And it is weird that there is not really much difference between full throttle and half as far as performance. Thanks for sharing
It amazed me that the motor only got louder and never really faster
@@MidwestFrontier must have something to do with the hull shape, but yeah it is weird. I float the Madison river quite a bit and one of the sections dumps you into Ennis lake and it’s probably a mile to row to the closest takeout . And if ( pretty much always) the winds blowing it can be a real challenge. Whenever I run this float I put the motor on , often when I do this section I’m the only one because nobody wants to row to the ramp in 20mph wind .
Fucked a pizza board for that
I'm definitely getting one of them
super helpful, was looking to put a motor on my headhunter 2 and this is super awesome. Thanks.
I guess I'm one of the 20 or 30 people who watched this...
Yes you are and I appreciate it
'Promosm'
good thing the season is extended to the fourteenth.
Must be the walk back to camp in shame... Brah we hunters all feel it... But are you a felon? Or Stalker, why's you bow hunting.
What's my other option?
@@MidwestFrontier rifle??? I know you can bow hunt all season long but why. Unless you got screwed by the system or just super hard core.
Firearm for us ended a month ago
@@MidwestFrontier damn it boy where this at
Illinois whitetail
Plenty of time
Drift mostly Midwest tailwaters up to 2000 CFS or minimum flow rivers with Clacka 16 LP. No motor needed and prefer the quieter experience.
Me and you both lol I thought I was the only guy that would be shooting Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
Had a 6 on Clack reg. Now a 3 1/2 merc on eddy. Tohatsu makes all 40hp down. Use 2 fuel bottles in a neoprene wine sleeve for backup.
What size shaft do you run? A 20" or 25"?
I just saw this now but it's a 20 inch
Hey Guys - I’ve got a Clacka (2003, WF 16) that I have customized with 6HP four-stroke, front/rear anchor systems, and other accessories. The 6 hp was the best balance between hp & weight - my WF model is rated for 9 hp, but those are heavy & pricey! Nowadays, I’m looking into an electric outboard when they improve them a bit more. I’m also in the Midwest, and have the same approach - it’s cool to see you out there (and to get compliments on/off the water)! Were you on the DuPage or Fox R. in this video (good smallies & pike in those)? I run mine everywhere from the Lake Michigan surf, to the Fox Chain, to Wisconsin & Michigan rivers. You’re right on about the speed and performance (these boats definitely don’t get on plane, and 6 mph is about it - although they do run shallow when loaded properly). We’ll know when we cross paths… 😉👍
Actually this was the Des Plaines and I almost got the weight forward but they talked me into the eddy. I'm also very interested in the electric motors but I haven't really heard about a long shaft model yet. If you see me around come say hi and I'll see you out there!!
New sub. Ordered my Sportsman 119 and am excited to set it up.
Midwest Frontier videos!!! Are you guys going to start doing a video build series on Pat's boat?
He says he wants to do something on his boat now
Well done 🇨🇦👍
I'm going to check your channel out, good tips. Looking forward to your other videos. Thanks!
Thanks I need to get back into making more.
When I get this canoe I'll just get a longer double bladed kayak paddle so I'm 5'9 and would probably won't to get a 6 1/2 foot tandem paddle to not come out of the water much at all as to keep the canoe floor dryer is my opinion !!!
Yeah but can you do a backflip that’s the real question😂
A handstand is all I have the guts for
Can you Say PFD ? Where was yours ???
In the back and legal
A Game Warden in Maine once told me 'I've recovered a lot of dead bodies from the bottom of lakes, but never one wearing a PFD!'.
Love it ! Need to come hang out with you guys
If you need any help I’ll help you out
Thanks for sharing! I'm always worried about tipping when I stand in the canoe.
The Old Town Discovery 119 is a bit wobbly to stand in but the Guide 119 is a bit more stable. Might be a better option if you want a solo canoe to stand in.
I just purchased my own Old Town solo sportsmen. Love the way you rigged yours. Would you share more detail on the Hummingbird depth finder your using. What model is it?
It's just the helix 5 GPS no down imaging. I've had good experience using humminbird products, easy to use and navigate.
I think I saw them advertising standing paddling on their website. I think the paddle they suggest extends to be very long so you can paddle standing.
you need a solo 66. trust your dad.
Maybe mention what model it is, I dunno.
Old Town Discovery 119
How much do you weigh?
190ish a couple weeks ago I was standing in this in a shallow moving creek paddling for a while
Duck tape works better than never wet. Instead of 6-8 bucks for two cans roll of good duck tape 5 buck last a life time. Enjoy.
I will try this
@@MidwestFrontier I used the never wet and it's good stuff but the duck tape works and cheap.
usable weight capacity is actually 298
Where can I get the crossbar (track accessory) that you're mounting the fishfinder and transum to? I have a Predator SS150 from Old Town.
That's just the thwart in the canoe. They built a track into it
I used to have a predator 13 and if they didn't change it they had those plastic plates you can drill in to and add a track or just a mount
