Reducing the adoption fees is a no brainer...DUH. Our local Humane Society in Southern Oregon adopts on a sliding scale: if it looks like an AKC dog they were charging $450 for an adoption! Mutts price dependent on the age and even then they asked $125-250! The director was pulling a salary of almost $200,000 a year while volunteers did all the work. People always want to 'save' underdog dogs...feel good motivation. I've found those people usually don't stick out the problems and return the dog after frustration reaches their lack of ability to understand and how to train the dog.
