Bourbon my man!

That’s a tough question. Is a RR15 better than all RR13’s? I’ve done side by side with 2-5, and yes, it is for those. Would I rather have a RR15 or 2 RR13’s? That’s hard to answer, but at this point I would say yes, if they were RR13 B4/5 and no if the RR13’s were batch 3. I thought the RR13 B3 was much closer to the RR15 profile than B5.

Yes sir, born and raised here. I’ve only pulled 2 RR13’s from the VABC. I’ve traded for a several and Ive found batches 3-5 online and paid between $150-$200 for them. RR13 is one of my favorites and I’ve been consistently hunting from them since they were released. The last one I bought was for $190 from barrelshoppe.com. I appreciate the comment and cheers 🥃

@@Neat.Bourbon nice. what part of va are you from if you dont mind sharing? i have been getting into bourbon for like a year and a half at this point and i agree, rr13 is my favorite, followed closely by rr15. got the 15 off the last drop before the change (which, i hate), and the rr13 i found in DC, guy worked with me and i paid 200. it's batch 3. i'd love to have backups of both of those. i grew up in centreville, and moved to haymarket (before it was a city, when it was super rural), and i'm out in winchester now. not far from the wv line.

@@garnetreecejones9222 200 for a RR13 B3 is a fantastic price these days. Batch 2-3 are really tough to come by and 1 is basically impossible now. 4-5 still pop up randomly, which is weird because are last years releases. I’m a big RR fanboy in general and it’s probably my fav line of bourbon at this point. I live down in Richmond now. Ive been out of town for the past few weeks and have been missing all the fun with the new drop system… I for one will not benefit from it unfortunately.

Congratulations on scoring one at MSRP! Form everything I’ve seen the RR15 is still pretty scarce, but hopefully that will change the rumored production numbers are real. I know most people I know are still hunting for one. I’ve been out of town for a few weeks and bottle will have opened up by the time I’m back. I’ll put out a followup blind with some other bottles when I’m back. Cheers and congratulations again!

The distillers picks are incredible and wish I lived closer to the distillery to have better access, 😂. I tried a buddies Parker’s CS rye that was way more dark chocolate cherry forward than mine, but it’s amazing in its own right. I traded for the 1/2 full 23’ GTS and that was my first time having the bottle and was a little underwhelmed, maybe I built my expectations too high over the years, and traded for the others to see how the 23’ compares to other releases. @@Neat.Bourbon had the pour. IMO the nose is the star of RR15 but the palate is great too. Amazing stuff. If I ever see a bottle I’m buying.

Hey Scott, can go wrong with Russell’s picks! I’ve seen there are a lot of CN-F picks going around and for $65-$80 those are some real budget friendly unicorns. Living in VA, I don’t have access to the same picks as others, but hopefully you have better luck than I do. The James E Pepper is really solid too, that’s on the sweeter side of the spectrum. KY Spirit picks list the Rickhouse too and a buddy found a camp Nelson pick, which was pretty cool too. Cheers and I appreciate the comment as always 🥃

Hey Randy, M10 is a fantastic pour, but it sucks that it is marked up so much on the secondary. I look for them every week and it’s pretty defeating to always see 300+. Websites don’t list the batch number and I wouldn’t spend that kind of money on a small chance of pulling the A batch. I just shot you a message about a line on a Bomberger. Cheers man 🥃

Congratulations on getting married and the 23E is a dynamite bottle! The 23A is just a little darker and spicier, if you ever have the opportunity to try one, you won’t be disappointed. Honestly just landing any M10 bourbon is quite the accomplishment these days. Cheers man and happy hunting 🥃

Hey Joseph, I’m not sure if I want to trade the B2 because one of them I won in a lottery the same day I found out we were having a girl and the second one I just traded a RHF, M10R, and Stagg jr for. I’m opening one in September with some family and not sure if I want to trade the other that I just traded for. I’ll have to give it some thought. I don’t really have many bottles in that value range… maybe a Parker’s heavy char or double barrel + kicker or using it for a 1:1 or bundle in a trade up for a WLW.

I was trying to move through the bottles quickly to keep the video length down. I can always go into more depth in a follow up video. I live in VA and have been able to pull a fair amount of bottles through their drop system, then I would trade duplicates with people on CL in different cities whenever I traveled. I also have some good family in FL and friends in NY/CO that have helped secure bottles. More recently I have gotten into some local bourbon groups that have really helped he find bottles local via trades of pull bottles from out of state. I also do loads of online research to occasionally find stores that will ship to me. I just try to have my hand in as many pots as possible to find bottles. A lot of time has gone into finding these bottles, but I enjoy the hunt! Cheers man 🥃

Depends how much you drink...

I’ve been into bourbon for ~10 years and it took some time to figure out how to find bottles and my budget has changed as well. It wasn’t until the past few years where I would hunt backups of bottles I really liked. I know people have far more bottles in their collection, but I don’t really have capacity for too many more bottles. Anyway, I appreciate your comment and cheers man 🥃

Yeah but if you were collecting that far back in VA you would definitely have an extensive collection. Lineup days went all the way up to 2021. Based on what you’re saying you haven’t been collecting for 6+ years more like 2-3.

You can collect things at different levels. Your preferences change over time and budgets change over time. Someone could have 60 bottles and been collecting for 6 years. Someone may only be able to afford 10 bottles a year. If I were to keep all the empty bottles there wouldn’t be any room. So people have space restrictions. If he says he’s been into bourbon for 10 years that don’t mean he was sleeping out front of stores back then.

Except he said he’s been “collecting” so your points not valid. And to say it “took time to figure out how to find bottles” is just a flat lie if you’ve been doing it that long. It took years to figure out to show up on delivery day at your local store? They would’ve told you that back then. I just don’t get lying to try to build credibility.

😂 well I’ve had that bottle open for about 2 years now and will be polishing it off soon. That bottle is truly amazing! I’m opening batch 2 in September and look forward to blinding B1/2 and GTS. Think of it more like categories - Low proof sipper/mixer, a rye, a finished bourbon, etc.

Yeah, I did intentionally choose bottles that were really good, but I don’t drink all the time. These are the actual bottle I brought with me this week on vacation. It’s a vacation and wanted to bring a highlight reel to enjoy. I appreciate the comment and cheers 🥃

I’ve been trying to get more into Ryes and all of peerless ryes have really hit for me. Their double oaked rye is one of the best bottles on my shelf right now. Peerless does DO picks too…. Need to get my hands on one of them eventually. Cheers and happy hunting man 🥃

That’s a great way to do it too! We are staying with some family and there a loads of overpriced stores around here and didn’t think I would have much time to do too much hunting and wanted to make sure all my basis were covered. My brother is here and he enjoys bourbon as well. It’s a good time. Cheers 🥃

That’s a great lineup there! I’ve heard great things about the New Riff single barrels. I had a pick from like 2 years ago and was a fan originally, but not so much at the end. I’ll have to get them another shot! I’ve liked their malted rye and 8yr. I appreciate the comment and cheers! 🥃

Man I couldn’t agree with you more! I don’t always reach for the 1792 FP, but when I do, I’m always like, “damn, I need to drink this more. It’s incredible” same goes for ECBP. Congratulations on the find! Some of the 1792 FP picks are out of this world good!

That is a good point - I still plan to do some hunting as well, but the RR15 really destroyed my bottle budget for the month and need to be very selective with bottle purchases 😅

Sorry that it came off that way. This was a genuine opinion. I’ve had multiple of the RR13’s and know the profile variants pretty well since it’s my most frequented pour. I have a blind where the Disco 11 beat two RR13’s. I agree that a double blind in black glens would be the best recipe here and that is something I would consider in the future. I appreciate the feedback and will give me something to work on 🥃

It’s a tough bottle to beat, hopefully it gets even better with a little time
