I’m back to say thanks so much for talking the workflow through so excellently. And sharing the patch is so helpful and allowed me to jump right in but understand how it worked. I’ve really enjoyed modifying the samples and messing with synched random LFOs. Your sample choices are classic and perfect and the demo is clearly informed by understanding of the genre. Respect to you and thanks again!
Just thought I’d come back to say thanks so much for talking the workflow through so excellently. And sharing the patch is so helpful and allowed me to jump right in but understand how it worked. absolutely genious, you earned a new sub, will try to learn more from you!
THANKS A LOT FOR THIS VIDEO YOU SAVED MY LIFE
thank you for this
Brilliant
Fresh as a lettuce
Its 6am Friday, when I get home after work I’m trying this out, thanks you
Crazy good!🎉❤
its taken me two hours to manage to get key/arp settings for assign1 & 2 but can only seem to play one sample. could you go into more detail of how this section operates please
To make things easier, you can download this patch and the bank of samples from my GitHub page: github.com/dmr-songquito/MicroFreak-Patches/blob/main/Drumbreakz.mfpz github.com/dmr-songquito/MicroFreak-Patches/blob/main/BreakbeatsSeparatedDrumHits.mfsbz
Would it be possible to split the keyboard with any engine? Say have an octave for a preset and another for the vocoder? I used the circuit tracks to trigger and this would if possible be awesome
What you can do is to assign the Key / Arp in the mod matrix to the Type knob. You'll get different engines across different zones on the keyboard. But it is kind of hard to adjust the right modulation amount to get a precise split, it's kind of trial and error.
very confused, how do i select cycenv > sample and key / arp > sample please
This patch and the used samples can also be downloaded from my GitHub page: github.com/dmr-songquito/MicroFreak-Patches/blob/main/JumpUp.mfpz github.com/dmr-songquito/MicroFreak-Patches/blob/main/BreakbeatsSeparatedDrumHits.mfsbz
you are a mad genius - thank you for sharing
what sort of arcane magic is this? so glad i just purchased one. not sure i could ever follow this. could you export as a project / profile - i forget what they are called
I can do this, it will still be hard to reproduce since you need to load the samples that I used into the same slot as me. The patches on the MiniFreak are stored independently from the samples.
Thanks very much!
Wow! Really neat tricks! I've didn't thought about having a bass using the self-resonance on the filter! Once I'll have a time I'll re-work my own drum loops and make drum sets for Microfreak! It's the instant jamming machine now!
And suddenly, when I went to go fetch my MicroFreak to update it to this awesome new firmware, suddenly it occurred to me that someone has stolen my microFreak😖… now comes tough decision. Whether to buy MicroFreak again…
Stolen??? Damn
Second Erlangen link cool nice analysis and decomposition
Could anyone please explain to me how do I get these samples on my Microfreak? I am very new to the topic and have updated my MF to v5.0 with the MIDI control center. I see there how could I put samples on it BUT. What about these exact samples? I checked out the links and I am lost. What about that programming code and these? I thought I could get a link to .wav files that I can upload on my MF. Sorry if I look completely dumb but I am just a beginner. Thank you a lot!
The breakbeat used in this video can be downloaded via this link: rhythm-lab.com/sstorage/53/2019/12/Bobby%20Byrd%20-%20Hot%20Pants%20(Bonus%20Beats).wav The site also has tons of other classic funk & soul breakbeats. About the link to the python source code: It allows you to separate any drum break into the the different drum sounds (like kick, snare, hihat). If it is too hard to run the python code yourself, you can directly download some pre-processed breakbeats via the following links. @@d..d6201 Wow. Thank you sir! I really appreciate your answer.
very cool! i do this in ableton, but sometimes its nice to use something else, + you get the filter
Finally pulled the trigger on one, loading the Amen was the first thing I was gonna do with it : - )
don't get it
Ok I still have a question tho :D I really worked on that and can get the loop working on C3 which is in the middle of the keyboard for me (not like you) but also if I push another key it will mix the drum samples with the other sounds I have in the samples table, so indeed when I use the LFO it gives me very unpleasant results. I really can't find out the reason since I did exactly everything you said I THINK. The only thing I could see is if the 2 CyclEnv dest are different like -100 on pitch and -66.6 on something else, otherwise I don't know ^^
Did you set the mod-matrix assignment of keyboard to sample selection to 100 percent?
Hello ! Great tutorials but there is something I can't understand :D How do you put CyclEnv as a destination ? I can only add rise fall hold or amound by turning their respective knobs, but I can't figure out how to put the "general" CycleEnv in the dest o_O
I just figured it out lol for those wondering you have to position the blinking dot in the matrix on CyclEnv>Pitch and then learn it by pressing ASSIGN1 and turning the Matrix knob and do it again with ASSIGN2.
So good! Been sitting on my MF as just a controller the last many months, going to update asap. Inspiring!
Kewl!
Great video, informative and enjoyable. You deserve more subscribers, hope to see you with 100k next year if you keep producing quality content.
I really want to play breakbeats on the MF, but I can't figure out how you put the samples onto the keys. The website linked shows a bunch of code that I don't really know how to turn into audio and then to put it on the MF.
Below you'll find some direct download links. You can open these separated drum stems in Audacity and cut out single drum hits to upload on the MicroFreak. That was dope!
Awesome, thats very inspiring.
omg! thats just awesome =)
NOW I need to get one!
Banger !!!
this is epic
very nice!
Dope video! The Microfreak update looks amazing. Great information on this video. New sub!
Thanks !! ...can you do it in the plug in version >?
Yo, thank you for this awesome patch idea!! Feels very intentional, I come up with cool patches but usually in more of a happy accident type way. You are a true master of the Freak!!
MicroFreak has drum samples ?? I have an monologue, in monologue i can sequence some combinations of noise wave and sawtooth to emulate a drum loop, but sooo synthetic. The MicroFreak is polyphonic and has drum samples? I NEED THIS!
The MicroFreak is 4-voice paraphonic, only one analogue filter. The ability to play and manipulate samples was just added few weeks ago with a firmware update.
Incredible! Thanks a lot!
you are epic!!!
Nice, gitta try that asap! Thanks
Im enjoying this series! Thank you for sharing ✌️✨
Genius!!🔥🔥
Great!
Cool technique, very clever use of the sampler
very informative video
Your video is fascinating, but I can't get your result at all, even after several tries. How do you assign a sample to C3 (around 5:00)? I can't do it at all, even though I've loaded my samples. In fact, I'm having trouble using the Assign keys on the matrix because in Key/Arp I only have "Type" or "Vcopar1" "Vcopar2" "Vcopar3". I'm going round in circles... Could you help me? Thanks a lot
You need to press shift + type to get to the sample assignment mode. Then, the sample you select with the type knob will be the one mapped to C3. In my case, it is the first kick drum sample, I loaded all the other drum hits into to following slots, so they will be mapped to the keys above. Once the sample selection is on, you can also use it as an assignable slot in the mod matrix (called sample). Pressing shift + type again brings you back to the normal mode, where you can select different oscillator types. The sample selection will stay the same.
@@d..d6201 Merci merci Merci !!
Super ☺♥
Arturia should be having this preset on the ver 5 update. Actually you should making around 10 performance style presets like this and selling them as a pack 😂 If ever I have an issue making this May I request your help ❤
Yeah sure just ask me if you need help.
@@d..d6201 thank you so much. DnB is my passion as it has so much character energy and movement What you did with the MF was ecstasy. Wow I’ve got the samples and will follow your video and give it my best shot Will surely tell you my results 🤪😜 Today I installed mini Moog samples and turned my MF into Moog. It sounded so good
@@grandmasterjo1 Let's see a vid of what you came up with, bro! I also own an MF but I am still learning the steps as it is my first ever synth.
@@neilfischer3957 apologies. Sadly I do not have the infrastructure to make videos that are utube worthy. It needs the right cameras, mics and excellent editing software
@@grandmasterjo1 don't limit yourself bro. Everyone starts small. Just a smartphone video is capable of telling a better story. But I also understand if this intimidates you and that isn't my goal. Either way, I hope you are creating magic and fun for yourself and everyone around you.
