This is a follow on video from the 'Baby Announcement' I did in April 2016 (available on my channel). I've watched 'One Born Every Minute' in the past, so thought I'd do my own version for my wife and family (linking with the Announcement video). If you go to 1:52, Michael gestured to the chalker that he couldn't go around Murray to the right because Murray toes the oche heavily to that side. Seems fair enough. The chalker again pulls him up for it at 2:37. Michael did the right thing by trying not to obstruct his opponent.

Is there a rule governing the way a player exits the board after retrieving his/her darts? If not, what is the scorer/referee complaining about? Mr. van Gerwen was merely trying to accommodate his opponent's desire to hog the right side of the oche when setting up his throw. I applaud Mr. Murray for not being the initiator of this controversy. Both players were perfect gentlemen. The referee was a twit.
I did see something similar in the ongoing world championships. The commentator mentioned it was in the rule books so that a player's opponent isn't disturbed by movement while throwing. But I agree with you, both players were absolute gentlemen here.
@@honestabe6359 Thank you for your comment. I checked the DRA rule book and could only find this reference about retrieving darts after a turn. It says "Once a Player has thrown the final dart of their throw they should retrieve their darts in a timely fashion so as not to unduly disturb their opponent.". I could not find any rule governing which side of the oche the player should use to return behind the line. It seems that returning via the right side of the oche is much more of a custom than a rule.

@@honestabe6359 I agree. van Gerwen has become my favorite player ever since Phil Taylor retired. I know that many people don't like, what they perceive to be, Michael's haughty attitude but, I have never seen him to be less than gracious win or lose. He is number one and knows it. I can't fault him for that. I hope that he can hit a couple more nine-darters in the World Championship Tournament. Have a good day.

Khiêm Nguyễn The players are supposed to exit right after throwing. Michael was exiting left because Murray stands way to the right of the ocre and he can’t get around him without being awkward. Michael was doing it out of respect for Murray. The little twit judge obviously couldn’t see that and was out of line in my opinion

Whether Phil Taylor or Michael van Gerwen is the better legend remains to be seen. Phil has definitely shown his worth, but Michael is still young. Michael shows great promise with a record average. Why is it so hard for people to respect one person, and then also another person? Phil is a legend, I believe Michael is as well. It doesn't always have to be one above the other...

Bc phil taylor is greater. That a fact. We dont know if he will be after the career of mvg. But at the moment Phil is greater which doesnt mean mvg is better. He is the best player ever seen. But that doesnt mean he is the greatest. But of course mvg is a legend. He has like phil put the game on another level. Phil has make a 100er average a standard, and mvg puts it to 105-110. So both have done amazing stuffs to Darts. But a 16 time world champion compared to an 3 time champion (or 4th, i'm not sure), its a fact that the 16 time is at the moment greater.
