Love this period piece. You can tell the huge influence Hank Williams had on country music by the vocal style. ‘I’ve Lived A Lot In My Time’ was one of Jim Reeves’ early records, but it’s sung here like Hank Williams. The skyline in Chambersburg Pennsylvania back then was likely two stories at the most.

The off gassing of the pickguard caused the damage to the headstock area. If that pickguard had been disposed of back in the day that Bass would be in great shape.

Nice find; this one has been exposed to quite a bit of humidity. I’d be surprised if the pickup still works; it probably died from inner coil pole corrosion. Replacement pickguards can be be found, fortunately. Hope you brought it back!

The demagogues work through direct incitements to hate. The subtler Nationalist works through the implanting doubts, suspicions, and fears. The role of the demagogues is to keep the Nationalist pot boiling, pending the arrival of their messiah. They are confident he will emerge - "when chaos comes." Whom is he going to listen to for the cure all? In wanting to "do something about it," how far is he going to fall for the unscrupulous demagogues plea for the need of a "strong man" to "SAVE AMERICA?" Working according to a well-knit long-range plan, a hierarchy of like-minded, like-souled, democracy-hating Nationalists can bring about the conditions for the enthronement of extreme Nationalism here. One may, or may not be able to place his finger on such a hierarchy and the details of its carefully nurtured plot to undermine Democracy. One may or may not prove the existence of the plot though interception of documents. One may or may not learn of the technical details in the performance, transmitted by secret couriers. Through him they can capture the leadership of dominant Veteran's groups, drive a wedge into the ranks of labor, elect Nationalists to Congress, inflame a mob to white heat of racial and religious hate, organize Veterans as vigilante storm troopers and use them as a private army to terrorize the majority. After this, throwing the Constitution out the window might become a mere formality. Back in the early 60s my dad and I would stop at Rocky River to watch trains, after being downtown at Blum's Hobby House. I attended elementary school near the NKP mainline, between Cleveland and Lorain, and had a train-show going all day, every day, "Nickel Plate High Speed Service". The school still exists, but new construction on former farm land blocks view of the now NS tracks. Much has changed in the 55 years I have been away.
