My misguided search for a BUDGET sleeping pad

I discuss the steps (and missteps) I made trying to save a few bucks on a sleeping pad for backpacking. I made numerous purchases that I later regretted until I finally found the right solution. The pads I discuss in this video are the infamous Walmart blue foam mat, a military surplus self inflating pad, the Outdoorsman Lab sleeping pad, the Klymit Static-V Lite Insulated, and the REI Helix.

My wife and I backpack the beautiful Seneca Creek Backcountry. We start off at Spruce Knob, the highest point in West Virginia. From there we hike the Huckleberry Trail, the Lumberjack Trail, the High Meadows Trail, the Horton Trail, and the Seneca Creek Trail. We camp two nights next to Seneca Creek which has epic waterfalls including Seneca Falls. We also visit the site of a 1970's plan crash.
