Older freighters are the best!!
What's the rare sighting?
Ships still on the lake in late November!
I really like the older Frieghters and thank you 😊
Great job on the instructional videos! 🎉 This video made the subscription.👌
If I was the one that heard that, I would've needed to leave the studio and laugh my ass off
Next time tell the camera man to not film while he is drunk
Why can’t I use a pencil?
@@hu5116 I know pencil don't use lead anymore but it goes back to a dissimilar metal thing
@@markphillips1692 so I should think that as long as I clean it off well, there should not be a problem. And with the marker I would clean it as well. Reason I might want to use a merciless is that mechanical pencil will be much more accurate than a sharpie. Ok, maybe the ultra fine sharpie might give it a run for the money, but a .38mm? That is hard to beat. So it’s a trade of accuracy for what might not be a valid concern (lead) any more. The lesson is still valid though, to make sure you are not applying or leaving something on the surface that could be detrimental. To your point, if some residue of pencil graphite were left, then it would not provide a Good surface for paint binding. And now that I think more on it, because graphite is so slippery, it might be hard to fully remove. The marker will actually dissolve in the alcohol or acetone, which the graphite will not. Ok, I’ve bought in. Lead pencil should not be used just because there is a risk of residue that is hard to remove, meaning it might not get removed, and so that is just one less risk we need to worry about. Thanks!

Do those gear shorten as they rise?
@@earlyhemibill yes. The gear have a complex 2 chamber system so when the gear go up the shrinkage strut compresses the oleo
@@markphillips1692 If you watch the retracts on the Helldiver, it looks like a cable pulls the gear up and limits their extension.
@@earlyhemibill helldiver does use a cable to compress strut. It only compresses couple inches. P-47 compresses about 8
@@markphillips1692 When the N model came out, the wings were extended on each side. They also moved the gear out the same distance. Wonder if they didn't shrink on that one?
@@earlyhemibill they still shrunk. The reason the wings were extended was to add a wing fuel tank

Thanks for the walk around. I’m so impressed and learned a few things I never knew. Spot welds!? Wow! Aluminum to aluminum? Is that original method? Just surprised to learn they spot welded aluminum back then. What did you use to spot weld? And a working turbo supercharger system!!! So glad to see that! My father was a P-47 mechanic with the 9th AAF and supported operations all the way to Germany. He said it was very impressive when that turbo kicked in during power runs. Question: I suppose you use 100LL gasoline. Since the original fuel used was 130 octane does using 100LL cause any problems? Especially with high manifold pressures? I’d be worried about detonation in the cylinders.
I didn’t know those things were hydraulically operated.
The water looks so beautiful. Without is common to see the wayer that color\vlatoty up the shore... it's not always that way in dilutb
I was there when this ship came in! I was so happy. Do you know if it really has been 20 years since she came into Duluth?! I was on the other side of the pier so I couldn’t hear what the person said over the intercom 😢
@@abbyherndon9074 she did say it had been a long time since it was in port. But I couldn't tell you for sure how many years
Those ladies sure knew how to build an airplane!
or build a plane from old bike frames . or timber ..two by four frame or ...some way simpler construction just crude wood and plyplates as wings , in a strong simple way l guess not glue then ,maybe just test strenght of timbers by weight test in middle see if cracks , .. would it work for a few flies at least , fun vid for youtube safer to remote control with man weight sandbag in seat. or old plane wings on old car drive till lifts no propeller.
Awesome!
I realize this is an old video, but it would be good if you would make the work sheets you are using available so that we could follow along with you. PDF files would be good. Thanks
@@amtpdb1 I'll look for them and add link
@@markphillips1692 that would be great thanks
Where do I find. De-burr tool like that one!!!????
Great video. Mark, would the use of the hydraulic cart change the sequencing of the gear? Here it looks like both gear retract almost simultaneously while planes I've videoed at various air shows typically have the port gear retract 3/4 faster than that of the starboard side. Asking as I am building a 1/6 scale rc Razorback and would like to get gear movement as scale as possible. Appreciate an insight you can provide. Thank you.
Test flight? Is this a replica?
GORGEOUS! Thanks for sharing! Some nice behind the skin peeks
She's stunning!

This is very helpful. I watch your video and it helps me understand on how to do a very good job dealing with sheet metal work...keep posting.
I would say titbond glue is not the best to use. It is not a structural adhesive. Used T-88.
This was not an airworthy part. It is just a teaching tool and mancave item
That makes sense. I must have missed that in the video.
