If these are used in a wood burning stove, do you end up with waxy remnants in the stove?
That's a great question! We've given these as gifts to my siblings and they used them inside in their fireplaces and said they never left any residue.
@@homeschoolwithmoxie Thank you!
This was such a great interview. Thank you! I am already planning our 2025-2026 school year. I think I will use Cover Story for our middle school child and One Year Adventure Novel for our high school child, then work our way through all 4 programs. I’ve never found a great writing program despite much searching. This, in spite of already graduating a child who is in college and doing well! Thank you so much. ❤🎉
Thanks for the feedback! Great to hear.
This sounds so good. Thank you for reviewing this curriculum I’ve had a difficult time finding reviews of Clear Water Press materials.
Awesome! I'm so glad this flip-through was helpful for you. If you do purchase, let the team at CWP know I sent you :)
You mentioned that your son is dyslexic and so is mine! He is going into 9th grade and I was concerned about the rigor of the reading. Did you provide any accommodations to assist with all the reading? For my son, the volume of reading may be an issue.
That's a great question! For this kid, I didn't require the extra primary source reading. He was fine with reading just the lessons. We did do some of the literature selections, but we used audiobooks for that.

I’m so bummed to hear that Generations science is dry and boring! We are starting it this week! Have you done Apologia?I heard the same about Apologia which is why we decided on Generations. What science program do you and your kids like?
I think it was the student workbook that made it dry and boring! The books are actually pretty nice. Since I already had it on hand, this same child is using Generations' God Made the World science curriculum (grades 5-7) and is enjoying it this year. BUT we're notebooking as we read instead of using the corresponding workbook. So, keep that in mind if your kids find it boring! But you never know, your kids may love it. We have used Apologia at all different levels (Jr. Botany, Jr. Anatomy, and middle & high school courses) and the kids have "enjoyed" it as much as you can enjoy science when it's not your favorite subject ;)
@@homeschoolwithmoxieokay thank you! I will keep you posted on how my daughter likes it! 😀

Thanks for sharing your video! My students are going to love this tool as they venture into the many life-skills courses in our growing homeschool and career planning program! Cheers and Mahalo!
Great to hear! Thanks for the feedback.
I’m 57 and I need this, I know instead of just studying and reading the Bible etc I should have learning Bible verses to be able to share with others when I need to witness or share with someone going thru this or that. Thank you showing to make our own box. Thank you. I know years later but will even be sharing. Bless you and your family.
So glad to hear this was helpful! You are completely correct - even adults can benefit from this system. We need all the help we can get with consistency :)
@@homeschoolwithmoxie yes. Very much agree.
Can this be used for a 7th Grader? Also is it one book per school year and if so how many pages did you need to do per day?
Yes, it could be used for a 7th grader. This book goes way deeper into cause/effect than most textbooks, which are usually just fact memorization. You could decide how many days/week you'll be doing history, then divide up the pages that way. Or, if you download their workbooks that go along with this book, and they may have a schedule in there. We never used the add-ons, just read the book. I have Volume 2 in front of me, and it has 11 chapters that are about 20 pages each. You could always add in extra biographical reading of people mentioned in the book to round out the year. Or add in hands-on projects or field trips. If your 7th grader is motivated, they could probably get through both volumes in one school year. Hope this helps!
Have you tried doing literature the Charlotte Mason way? Read, oral narrate if she’s not used to that. Then do written narrations gradually. It’s helped my kids so much and keeps them accountable. We do picture narrations sometimes also or watercolor or even act out what was read. We do this for majority of our readings. Then my kids have free reads they can choose from. Before bed they have their own picks (mom approved). Editing to add read the book Know and tell by Karen glass. So good and might give you some different perspective.
Yes - we have done loads of narration for years! And I love the book Know & Tell by Karen Glass. I wish it had been around 16 years ago when we started :) Thanks for the comment and advice. I think I need to stop overthinking some things (like literature!!) and just go back to tried & true basics like oral & written narrations.
I hope you continue with your YT channel. You are a natural and have so much to offer homeschool families. I have homeschooled for over 22 years and love to watch your videos - so inspirational and insightful. Thank you for taking your time to share with all of us:)
thanks for taking the time to leave such an encouraging comment!
Great thoughts on literature analysis. Check out Teaching the Classics. I think it will fit well with your teaching desires.
thanks for the recommendation! I'll check it out.
Homeschooling the last child, especially if the age gap in large, does feel like homeschooling a singleton. Our caboose just turned 10, and his closest in age sibling graduated 2 years ago. It's definitely been an adjustment for him and for me. While they did have a large age gap, I still taught several subjects family style, like history, science and geography because they both enjoyed and benefited from it. Last year was my youngest's first year schooling alone, and it was really hard on him! He has always required someone to be by his side 24/7, truly from birth. It can be a bit exhausting at times. I'm learning to push him to be more independent more and more each year, but still can't leave the room he's working in for more than 10 minutes without him coming to find me.😅 I can also relate to the whole Teacher's Guide debacle. I really like how ABeka breaks up their Arithmetic material. They have lesson plans for the teacher and a separate key. I have only bought the key for the past couple of years. We switched from BJU Math. I found it to be thorough, but a much slower pace than ABeka or Saxon. I bought the TG for BJU Math 3 and rarely used the lesson plans, especially since BJU is still written for classroom use, it just seemed to not work most of the time. I taught strictly from the worktext 95% of that year. I'm really intrigued by the Bible study you showed. I will definitely be checking that one out. Thanks for sharing!
Can relate to a lot of this~ we'll have one child left in homeschooling 2 years from now. I know it will be a strange adjustment for us both! Please download free samples of the Bible studies at www.4onemore.com/samples
Homeschooler and real estate investor here.
Awesome!! Do you focus on flips, buy & hold, or....? How long have you been investing?
Buy and hold and I’ve been doing it for 2 years. But have been wanting/planning to do it for a lot longer. Always scary to pull the trigger 😅
@@rachelembree6175 Ahhh! We're just in the middle of our FIRST reno for buy & hold and it's all scary right now 😬
Do you have any info on how to do notebooking instead of utilizing the workbooks?
I need to do a video on this for sure. It's a great question. I send people over to Debra at NotebookingPages.com because she has a FREE QuickStart guide all about notebooking which is way more detailed than I could give you for sure! Here's my referral link: 4onemore.com/notebooking
For AAS...do you feel like a 5th grader could jump in at Level 5? Or would they need to start at the first level to build on? My son is an excellent reader but not a great speller. I'm going back and forth between AAS or going back thru our Phonics program which is Logic of English (similar to All About Reading). Great recs!
Your 5th grader MIGHT be able to jump in at level 5, but AAS does have a free placement test just to be sure! We've always started a bit behind what we perceive their current spelling level to be just to get a solid foundation (if they didn't already start in level 1). We tried so many spelling resources before landing on AAS for all 5 kids~! Even our dyslexic child did well with this.

Love your choices and the reasoning behind them. Have you used the cooking class book before. can you do a flip through and maybe how you plan to use it?
I will definitely do a follow-up video after we've had a chance to dig into the cooking class book and use it with Guest Hollow Jr. Geography & Cultures. I think we'll just make recipes to correspond to the country we're studying.
Love your choices, thanks for sharing them. I didn’t realize you had Bible study curriculum. I will be looking into that for sure. This coming school year I have one graduate, a 9th grader, a 6th grader, and a preschooler.
Wow, you have someone at every stage this year! You can see our Bible study samples and try them here: www.4onemore.com/samples Enjoy :)
My daughter is the same age as yours and has read the Harry Potter series over and over and over…what other series has your daughter enjoyed? I wish I could find something she loves just as much.
Oh it's so fun to see them learn to love reading. She's just starting another series called The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer.
I too would enjoy hearing some of the other book series your daughter enjoyed. I will check out The Land of Stories
Definitely use the teacher's manual with BJU. I teach from it. I'm glad they have a buffet to choose from. Take what you need and leave the rest.
Yes, I love that we can all do what works best for us.
We love Guest Hollow!
Oh that's so good to hear! We're pretty excited. Wish I would have known about them years ago.
Yes! I have 7 kids that all learn so differently. I’ve had to change more than I ever thought I would.
It's so good to be able to be flexible when homeschooling. That was something that I didn't learn right away ;)
Thank you for the reviews!
Absolutely! Hope it was helpful.
*promo sm* 👊
Ahhhh thank you sooo much I went down so many rabbit holes of curriculums and this is exactly what I am looking for! We went with apologia, horizons, alpha , math mammoth, math with confidence. And even Singapore. And this seems way better!! What work books do I need though for the year? Their website seems little tricky there so many other books for k with bju press for math. Do I just get the math worktext?
Oh I'm glad it was helpful! It really can be as simple as just the student work text for Kindergarten. No need for a teacher's edition - it includes WAY too much for a homeschool mom. And you can easily see if your child's answers are correct. The manipulative packet is unnecessary, too, in my opinion. You can also easily find similar manipulatives around the house. Hope this helps!
Why do more homeschoolers not know or talk about this? This guy is amazing!❤
Yes! I've been homeschooling five kids since 2008 and it wasn't until a few years ago I even realized his curriculum was out there. I hope you'll check out our review of Cover Story here: www.4onemore.com/cover-story-clear-water-press-review/ and we'll be posting a review of Byline soon!
I’m considering writing with skill next year for my 8th grader - extremely reluctant writer. How did you like Cover Story .. which would you recommend we start with? Or if you have any insights. Much appreciated! Liked and subscribed 👍
They're both excellent choices but very different. Both are homeschool-friendly, that is - easy to use and written to the student. Cover Story includes videos. WWS is completely textbook-based and more cut-and-dry. Very systematic in learning how to outline, write, etc. Cover Story is more creative. Some kids enjoy WWS, some find it more dry. Best choice probably depends on your student. If they would do better with visual/auditory learning, then they might enjoy Cover Story more. Have you checked out my individual reviews of both? That might help you decide. www.4onemore.com/writing-with-skill-review/ & www.4onemore.com/cover-story-clear-water-press-review/
Does this curriculum encourage facts memorization? We are coming from Saxon but I'm looking at switching to BJU. We are used to the timed facts sheets. Just curious how BJU does them?
That's a great question! BJU Press Math doesn't include timed fact sheets, so that would be something you'd have to add in.
@@homeschoolwithmoxie Thank you for that info! I do like what I'm seeing with the BJU Math!
What ages do you find these best for? Can they be used for middle school/highschool?
Yes - MOH can be used in middle school and possibly high school with added reading or assignments. She does give activity and projects based on Younger/Older Student Guidelines. We have only used this in elementary and sometimes into middle school. We tend to use Notgrass History courses in the high school years.
Thank you. I just let my kids do a fun little oral report for books they read. Also would love to see how you implement notebooking if you don't do the workbook.
Yes! We do a lot of oral narration too. It just makes sense because kids naturally love to tell about what they've read or learned. I will definitely plan to do another video on the notebooking aspect. Thanks for the reply!
I have kids with learning disabilities. I have a 10, 13, and 2x15 year olds, but those oldest are maybe 2nd grade level. Trying to find something engaging. Also, how does it take each day. They cannot sit long especially my 10 year old. We prefer the unschooling method, but I feel they are missing some good history. Did you use the cookbook?
While written in a more narrative style than most textbooks, the MOH is still kinda "textbook-y" if that makes sense. Story of the World might be more engaging to read for them. MOH can take as long as you want it to - if you just want to simplify read the lesson, that's great. If you want to add in hands-on activities, you can. We didn't personally do any cooking with this. We always enjoyed creating figures to add to our timelines for each lesson.
You can try free samples of any of our Inductive Bible Study Courses by going to www.4onemore.com/samples
Loved this review! We plan to do BJU 5 math next year, so happy to hear that you love it and don’t use the TE! How do you check answers? (please don’t say you have to work all the problems behind your child to check them 🤣). I almost want to buy the TE just for the answer key. Or did you find an answer key available another way?
It's still fairly easy to check this without the answer key. For something like long division, we just use a calculator. Obviously, if the answer to a detailed problem is wrong, we do have to go back and find the error - but that's a good learning experience in itself. So, yes, I do glance over everything to "check the answers" but it doesn't take more than a couple minutes! I still think it beats buying the teacher's edition and wading through that beast ;)
Thanks for the reviews.
You're welcome! Hope they're helpful.
Thank you so much for the flip through! I’m trying to decide on the third or fourth edition since we would be starting so far in the year and I don’t want to spend a lot of money on new edition. This was very helpful❤
Glad it was helpful! If you're not intending to purchase extras or the teacher's manual, you would probably be just fine with the older edition. You can likely find it on eBay for a great price. That's where I found this one.
@@homeschoolwithmoxie thank you so much❤️

Do you think the student book is necessary
It depends on how many students are using it. We only had the Teacher's Manual and test book, and all the exercises are in that Teacher's Manual and can be reproduced. My student wrote directly in the teacher's book. However, you could purchase the Student Book if you have more than one child using the curriculum. From their website: "This student workbook does not contain the answer key and is to be used in conjunction with the teacher's guide. Note: You do not need to purchase this text if you are teaching one child. The student can write in the teacher text." Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for this flip through and review. This books look excellent!

do they have recommendations for books to read along side these as companions like SCM has?
Yes! The Companion Guide includes lists of books and other resources for each lesson or topic and they are even divided out into appropriate books for younger, middle, and older students.
This was great. Thank you! Curious about the public speaking. Looking forward to hearing how it goes. How did y’all make biology AP? Would love to learn how that works. Just subscribed. I also have a channel mainly about homeschooling and glad to be able to connect here 😊
Thanks for the reply and subscribe! We don't worry about making our classes AP. It's just a "regular" high school biology class - although Apologia is definitely on the challenging side!
@@homeschoolwithmoxie we don’t either but wondering how. is there a reason why you labeled your biology class AP or does that mean something else?
@@TheChan7 Oh~ now I see it! I wasn't sure where I labeled it "AP" but now I see it on the video subtitles. That may have been mislabeling on my part - maybe meant to say "Apologia Biology" and wrote "AP." All that to say, Apologia DOES offer Advanced Science courses in the high school years if anyone is looking for more challenging options. Sorry for the confusion!
@@homeschoolwithmoxie no worries. I do things like that myself. I was curious how to go about considering a course AP in case that ever leads that way for us. Thanks for the clarification 😊
