Small Cities with Large Skylines part 1(Cities you never knew had big downtowns)
มุมมอง 402หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the first part of the Small Cities with Large Skylines series. I want to go ahead and apologize now to anyone who saw the original part 1. I made some changes and used it in this edited version. I also added a couple of new small towns as well. The first time I posted it, it was rushed, so I decided to make the adjustments I initially planned on doing and upload it now. Thanks, and I'm ...

      As a kid I always was told that they couldn't build too tall downtown because of all the caves. Apparently that's not necessarily true but in in so.e spots i believe it is. Hsv could use a nice 15 or 20 story building.

      @@cityskylines11 oh wow so Huntsville has mountains and caves in some spots , that's cool! It makes a little more sense now. A 15-20 ft story building would do the city justice. I've read up on front row, and It appears that the skybridge building isn't happening, but they will proceed with the skybridge. Huntsville is really up and coming, I enjoyed your video!

      @vilheard3030 Yea, HSV is at the foothills of the Appalachians, and it's at the base of Monte Sano mnt. Part is on the mountain, but downtown is at the base. It's a really nice town and there's tons of jobs and opportunities. Also, I appreciate that a lot. Thank you for watching and the comments as well.

      @vilheard3030 and about the caves, I lived downtown when I was a kid and all through high school and there was a cave that ran from the spring in Big Spring Park all the way under the courthouse square and ended directly underneath my house. They actually do tours of it. Unfortunately, I never took one, but if they still do them, I think it would be cool to check it out.

      @@cityskylines11 no prob,wow that's pretty cool about the caves being under your old house, too bad you didn't get to explore. I actually used to live in Huntsville for a short period of time in 2019 after leaving California, I felt like I was home for a minute lol. Huntsville is a very clean nice city with a mega-town feel to it. I can only imagine the growth that it's experienced since I've left. I want to move back there one day.

      Yes, Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area is the official name, Ft Lauderdale would be the 2nd city thats outshined by its larger neighbor, just like he said in the video.

    I've lived here for so long that I remember when they built 880/580 etc. I-238 was just a 'state route' with a terrific view of people's back yards. It connected San Lorenzo to Castro Valley where it turned into Highway 50 that cut across California and into Nevada. I-880 was called Highway 17 and it went from Oakland to Santa Cruz. Part of that road is still called Highway 17 out of San Jose to Santa Cruz. I remember riding my motorcycle onto the wet concrete of I-580 when they were still pouring it in the Ashland District near Castro Valley. My buddy Larry and I laughed so hard we damn near wet ourselves. The workers were PISSED! We're talking about march of 1965. The two of us still laugh about it to this day.

      @marstondavis Great stories! Appreciate you sharing that with us. I lived in San Jose for a little while and I used to drive all those routes you mentioned. I lived right off of I-880 and The Alameda in San Jose, which is right by the city limits for Santa Clara. That strip of 17 from Las Gatos to Santa Cruz is a beautiful ride. Love the Bay area.

    The Bay Area has several not only Oakland. But Oakland will be featured as that is the one city that is right across SF. San Jose would be another example as it is arguably the capital of Silicon Valley, is larger than SF and the area play a vital role in tech economy. Also, Buffalo can act as a 2nd city to The Greater Toronto area.

These low income housing projects began in the 1960s and was seen as a way to provide housing for low income people. They have become low income housing ghettos that have a lot of crime.

      Covington KY probably was not included because it is right across the Ohio River from Cincinnatti. Been to both. You can walk across the Roebling bridge from one to the other. He is the same Roebling who built the Brooklyn Bridge in NYC - the similarities are striking indeed.

      @@muzluv33 so what you’re saying is that suburb skylines don’t count?

    • @cityskylines11
      @cityskylines11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's really up to each person as to what they think should be on the list. Personally, I try to use cities that are not part of a larger city's metro. If you did it that way, you would end up with only suburban office parks that are on the edge of a major city. An example would be Tysons in Northern Virginia. The population is not much, but it has tons of tall buildings due to its proximity to Washington DC. Covington is a bit different because it has been around for a long time and has had an established skyline for most of it. The problem is we can't know how much of it would be there if it weren't for downtown Cincinnati being right across the Ohio River. These are the kinds of debates I enjoy seeing in the comments, though. I appreciate you both.
