It really is a great movie! But In that frame 3:11 i think Gavin Elster looks more like a small devil almost standing on Scottie' shoulder ready to fill him with lies ; )
Yes, he really traps Scottie in his web of lies. I think the comparison between Elster and Hitchcock is also really interesting - Elster controls Scottie in the same way Hitchcock controls the film
So helpful thank you!
I have just received my GCSE results and got a grade 6 in English Language. However, my school didn't provide GCSE Literature and so I haven't got any grade in it. I quite like the idea of being an English teacher in secondary schools as a future career but I was wondering if I would need any form of Literature qualification? Or could I get away with just having English Language?
Hi there, Well done for your GCSE result! It's great that you're already thinking about teaching. You would need to check the admissions requirements of different courses to see if you need Literature. I suspect that many will require a good knowledge of Literature and some will want you to have a formal qualification in it. You will need to think carefully about what sort of teacher you would like to be, as that will influence A Level choices. You can explore lots of options at degree level such as English and Linguistics or Communications etc. These will open many doors. However, if your main aim is to be an English secondary school teacher in the UK, I would strongly advise you to have English Literature as a part of your future studies - or maybe get the GCSE qualification independently. Good luck with the next steps! Maria
thank you sm ❤❤

Thank you so much, my progress exam is around the corner and I really wasn't very confident with my CLA pieces. I was constantly making the same mistakes of not putting the right things in the right paragraphs (e.g Mixing phonology terms with discourse). My teacher's style of teaching really doesn't suit me. So thank you very much for this!
Thank you for watching! Best of luck in the exam. Maria
Fantastic point about the light imagery around the girls innocence, a light that falls into shade as the girl crosses the threshold into the house and perhaps adulthood (or atleast teenage)
Thanks for your comment! Yes - I think a loss of childhood innocence into the world of experience.
God bless you 🙏🏽
thank you for doing these, I have my exam soon and your POD series has been so helpful!!
Glad to help! Thank you for watching. Hope the exam goes well.
love this one
Keats, never much excited before by reading any translation of Homer's translation. But, when he read Chapman's translation, it had created somesort of ecstasy to him and he really enjoyed a lot.....❤
Hi maria, do u have any predictions for the edexcel english lit paper 3 poetry?
Hi there, no predictions except the poems that haven't appeared before - however, here's a poem that's great for revising lots of themes poetryarchive.org/poem/instruction/ It's Sally Read's 'Instruction' - also on p.157 of the POTD Anthology. Good luck for the exam!
Thanks for being in my recommended. Hoping this exam isn't too bad (praying for a nature vs nurture question)
How was it? Im appearing next week
Got my exam tomorrow, probably going to flop but I think I'll flop less because of you. Thank you for being in my recommended section!
me too dw!
me too, we can flop together 🙏
Good luck today!

Hi how can you use MLU in an exam. Do you have to workout out for the whole transcript or can you just do the parent mlu for one utterance and compare to child one
Hi there, good question - it would depend on the transcript and what you are being asked.... Just doing one utterance comparisons is not really worth it, as the the wider the sample the more accurate the finding - so you should do the whole transcript. HOWEVER, in the exam you don't really have time so, expressing knowledge of MLU would be good with a suggestion (by eyeballing the whole text) that it is low or high. You can then comment on the stage of development and focus on the level of grammatical sophistication. Good luck!
@likemaria thanks for the reply. My exam is in a few days and I want to do a past paper for it and get it marked by you if thats okay with you. I can pay for you to mark could you tell me a rough price for 1 paper marking
@@yoh7605 Hi there, sorry, I wouldn't be able to turn this around in such a short time frame. I recommend doing a past paper and using the published mark scheme from the exam board to reflect on your answer. Best of luck with the exam! Maria
Please keep doing your videos they are such a great help! especially cause theres barely any resources online about the poems of the decade online. Keep it up !!
