An Indian Urban Sketcher's 2024 SKETCHBOOK FLIP-THROUGH
A narrated tour of a recently completed sketchbook filled with Urban Sketching, Nature Journaling and simple daily practice. I have used various mixed media techniques, with line and wash being my favored one. The sketchbook is a Speedball Watercolour Journal, A5 size, landscape format, with 200gsm pulp paper.
I upload full-length watercolour classes on Skillshare. Use this link to get 1 MONTH FREE on the platform:

Urban Sketching at the Market Using Copic Marker, Fountain Pen & Watercolor
มุมมอง 212หลายเดือนก่อน
Urban Sketching using a combination fountain pen and watercolour is rapidly gaining popularity. However combining the two with alcohol marker is a unique technique I am developing. The Sailor Fude De Mannen pen is one of the most popular among Urban Sketchers. As Inktober has just concluded, I thought I could share this mixed media sketch that uses Copic ink and Carbon ink. I am a regular urban...

RAINY DAY at Indian RAILWAY STATION. Loose Watercolor Urban Sketching

Watercolour urbansketching during the monsoon season is difficult for multiple reasons. Firstly, it takes a lot longer for one's paper to dry. Secondly, as the light is diffused by the clouds, there are no big or distinct shadow shapes. Representing such atmospheric and misty scenes en plein-air is a challenge. However, watercolour happens to be the perfect medium to do so if you can master the...

    This piece is great, really vibrant and lively. I like how you leave some negative space in your line work on the vegetables. The reason I tend to skip the drawing part of watercolor videos is because most of the time watercolor artists use light pencil marks for their drawings, which is hard to see on a screen. So it’s helpful that you’re sketching in ink.

    • @abbylegend
      @abbylegend 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You didn’t perceive it from the photo. You used your past experience of sighting higher platforms and imposed it on the photo. The artist here is right to not to accentuate the height and not having the crow on the tracks as an unnecessary distraction with realistic depiction. A photo and painting are 2 different things. With the photo you get to choose when to release the shutter. With the painting the artist get to choose what to paint.

    As far as anybody who might try to tell you that working from photographs is not "true" urban sketching goes, you'll find a lot of these self-appointed gatekeepers of the Craft saying things like this, but that's sheer nonsense. It's as valid as actually being on scene and who's to tell the difference in the finished work anyway?

    • @linewashbirb1
      @linewashbirb1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I stay away from any nomenclature debates of what is a 'true' urban sketch. Everyone is free to enjoy what they enjoy. However, in my experience, I feel there is a noticeable difference in any scene I sketch in-situ as opposed to from a reference photo. These videos are my best attempt to replicate a in-situ sketch.

    Wow it’s so impressive you managed to paint this on hot press 😂 I find it’s sooo difficult to get any smooth washes on hot press it’s a whole different experience than cold or rough press. I’ve been painting in watercolor for a number of years but I just recents switched from “painting in the lines” like a coloring book to painting 3 large connected washes and boy is it a learning curve! I can’t seem to make a single painting like that without panicking and making a mess of my painting but I’m still practicing.

    • @linewashbirb1
      @linewashbirb1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank-you. Look closely though. None of my washes in this piece are smooth. There are 'cauliflowers' everywhere, especially in the sky. IMO, the imperfections caused by flowing water is what give a watercolour piece its charm. When you try to 'fix' and 'control' things, you're asking for trouble.
