I think modern scientists have debunked the myth that pelicans peck their chest (but yes their feeding behavior looks like they do). Still a good reminder of the theology.
I will have to look into that, thanks for the feedback. It has been a long held analogy in the Church and talked about by many of the saints etc.

awesome! thank you Father... good to know about this... my parish is St. Juliana Falconieri in Fullerton, Calif. has this as a lovely green marble mural on the altar but facing the congregation. St. Juliana had a special devotion to our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament... she herself is depicted with the sacred Host imbued / imbedded on her chest next to her heart.
