My grand father knew Mr. Bradham in the early 1900's. He worked at the train station at age 15 when his father died. Both of my grandparents were born and raised in New Bern. My family has lived in the area since 1700. Before New Bern was incorporated in 1710.

Something new that I recently learned about Pepsi: in the 1950's, at an exhibition of American business technology held in Russia, Russians got to see a picture of Nikita Khrushchev drinking a Pepsi. Naturally, the whole country wanted to try it then. So, the Soviet Union entered into a deal with Pepsi to supply their syrup to a Soviet bottling plant. The problem: The Soviet currency, the Ruble, was worthless outside the Soviet Union. So Pepsi and the Soviets entered into a barter deal where Pepsi gave the syrup to the communists, and the communists gave Pepsi ...... Vodka. Yes, Pepsico was importing Vodka from the Soviet Union. They were also granted an exclusive market in the Soviet Union. No Coca Cola was allowed. Later, when the Soviet Union intervened in Afghanistan, the United States placed an embargo on Russia, which included a ban on importing Vodka. So, the Soviets had to find something else to barter with Pepsi to supply and expand their Pepsi production, which at this time was over 1 billion bottles per year. The Soviets needed something they had a lot of that was worth money on the open market. So, the Soviets having a very large military, decided to trade 1 cruiser, 1 destroyer, 1 frigate, 17 submarines, and several tanker ships to Pepsico in exchange for two bottling plants and Pepsi syrup. This made Pepsi the 6th largest military on the planet. Pepsi boasted they were disarming the Soviet Union faster than the United States government was! The Submarines and other military ships were old as scrap and the tankers were sold or leased to the Norwegians. As the years went on, the Soviets provided more tankers, which Pepsico sold. Then, the Soviet Union collapsed. Pepsico had to sign deals with 15 other countries to get the remaining ships built and delivered. Meanwhile Coke snuck across the Russian border and ended the Pepsi far-east monopoly.
