I just think you should stick with the textbook definitions and platforms of parties. Many Libertarian policies call for dramatic changes in legislature which by definition make those liberal policies. Conservatism is not the absence of government but the philosophy that policy should be enacted very careful and rarely rather than reactively like liberal policy. Any rational political party takes conservative or liberal policies depending on the interests of their constituents.

That isn't true at all. Your definitions are only based on the politics of the last 10 years.

picture a scale 0-10. Extreme conservatism (0) is the absolute absence of government (i.e. anarchy). Extreme liberalism (10) is complete government control (i.e. socialism, fascism, communism). Republican and Democratic are political parties which fall within 4-5 and 6-7 respectfully. The Libertarian Party (which is where I stand) falls within 2-3. I hope I made some sense with this. If not I apologize.
