    Yes I believe Pricilla was way too young to marry Elvis. He was a person that wanted every thing his way. Has far as Graceland you have to make a point of going there, it’s wonderful. I will read Lisa Marie s book. ❤️🐞🇺🇸📚📚

    Claire, I have read this and also Priscilla's book when it came out back in the 80s. Priscilla has said herself recently that it was a different time back then. Keep that in mind. Elvis was ten years older, 24 years old, when they met. He was not an old pig, in fact he was very mindful of her being so young. She turned eighteen in may 1963, and she moved to Memphis in march -63. She turned 22 the month they married. Just want the right perspective on this. And boy did she take advantage of his kindness and generousity after their divorce. One of the reasons he had to perform so much, and she put a lien on Graceland (the house he bought for his mother). I don't think she was a victim. Lisa though ..

    Always sad no matter who they are. I’ve been to Graceland twice. The first time was a wonderful visit, the second time wasn’t the same. They have made it into more of a theme park in my opinion. They’ve built hanger type sheds across the road that have a lot of memorabilia, which is interesting, but they have a diner and a huge gift shop. The first time we got to go on the plane, but it was open the second time. The house is a museum. A lot of the decor I remember from being young. I’m sure you might pick up energy that I didn’t. It is worth the visit though. I might put this book on my list.

    I agree. I remember the buzz of the Fifty Shades books. The topic never appealed to me, but my friend was insisting I’d love them, so gave me hers after she’d read them. I hated the first one, but told myself maybe it would get better if I read the next one and the same with the third. It didn’t get better for me and I felt that I’d wasted time reading something I didn’t enjoy. I’ve found that if I read an author I like i have to separate time between other books of theirs or they start to feel repetitive. I think authors have their own style of writing and after a while it doesn’t feel fresh if you read just the one author. I was a huge Jodi Picoult fan and would get her book as soon as it was released. I still like her books but I don’t automatically go to her new books just because I liked her old ones. I now read whatever grabs my attention. Maeve Binchy was a favourite of mine too when I was in my late 20’s early 30’s. Maybe it’s best not to reread some books, because as you say, we’re different people now and life has changed us in many ways. Loving these short chats❤

    Hi! I followed your old book club videos and I'm not amaze that you enjoy reading Outlander :) I started reading the series 10 years ago and finished last year with the last book (I'm very slow and I took pauses), and I enjoyed to listen someone speak about Outlander with this entusiasm! I have a lot of opinions about this series eheh I will follow your other reviews about the series!!

  • @SpanishEclectic
    @SpanishEclectic 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I enjoyed the first four books, but when I started the Fiery Cross and there were so many chapters where they were at the "Gathering" event and not much happened, I was really frustrated. It is my least favorite book. I've read the next few books, and have "Go Tell the Bees" but have not read it yet. I do skim certain parts, and I feel that while Diana has a lot of skill as a writer, she's too self-indulgent with all of the extraneous detail and too many side characters. I do like Colonial America, but am not as interested in the details of the Revolutionary War battles. I actually found the Brianna and Roger story lines in the later books to be more interesting. I agree with the person who says a very strict editor is needed. I was actually happy with some of the trimming down done with the series. Your points are valid, and each person must make their own decisions. I friend loves A Discovery of Witches, but I couldn't get into the book. The series is OK. Regardless, we all need a bit of escape, and reading can provide that.

    I liked the first book the best. But I made it through quite a few, but I got to the point where I felt the same. As I said, my favorite was the first, and I was captivated by the part of the book in Paris. I just can’t get into the colonial America part of the TV series. I didn’t enjoy the flashback and forward to the 60s. I’ve tried watching the season where they are in colonial America and it just got so boring for me that I went back and watched older segments.❤

    I’m so glad it wasn’t just me. I switched to the audiobooks and sped it as fast as I could and powered through the later books just because the series left us hanging for so long. I’m glad I know know how the story goes now, and I’m glad I did it because the curiosity was gonna kill me. But I also am mad that I did it because I hate it. The show really made us fall in love with characters that were rotating in a vacuum of torture and drudgery.

  • @FarmgirlFriday
    @FarmgirlFriday 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I read one time that the series was originally intended to be a trilogy. This makes sense to me as I felt that the character arcs and story line were quite good in the first three books. I have read the whole series and I did enjoy them. But the later books certainly rabbit trail more, have less character development, sometimes the whole story will loose direction, and the main characters have way to many close calls with death that they somehow survive (even though side characters seems to get knocked off quite easily). I agree with another commenter here that the whole series would have benefited from a better editor - or a more ruthless one!

  • @jbrittenham
    @jbrittenham 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I made it through all the books, often felt the same way. After book 8? I knew only one more book was coming. So I bought book 9 and read the first two chapters and was so surprised, she added more characters and BS and then announced book 10 was in the making. So, I'm done. Put it down and will put it in the bag with all the others and sell at a garage sale. Same for the TV series, totally blew it, disagreed with most of the cast picks, just really turned off on the whole Outlander thing. Really a bummer.

  • @tartantexan007
    @tartantexan007 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I’ve never been interested in The Outlander series. I did start the Christina Courtenay series The Runes of Destiny and only made it through the second book. I started the third book and it felt like the same story but different names for the same characters. If I’d just read the first book and left it there I would have been ok. Sometimes though in a series it does get a bit blurry I find. If I like and author I usually only read 2 of their books back to back. Most authors have a particular writing style that can become repetitive to read if you don’t read something in between. That’s my thoughts anyway.

    Interesting- I enjoyed all the series but I found The Fiery Cross the most difficult book as it’s the turning point in the series as it’s then the American Independence War. I do find that there is too much detail in the Outlander books and that they would benefit from a very good editor. However books are subjective much like any form of art. I’m currently reading the Lucinda Riley The Seven Sisters Series which I’m enjoying. Each one is a different story based on each sister.

    I've just finished this book today. Brilliant book. I was around 6/7 yrs when these gruesome times were upon us folk in Yorkshire. I remember being terrified and scared to go to bed on my own as a little girl. My mum never allowed me to leave the garden gate to my home. This brought back so many memories. I would recommend this book highly. 😊 Thank you Claire for bringing this book to our attention. 🩷

    During the pandemic I tried to set up a sharing library in my community. I had time to clear out my old books, and didn’t know where I could put them because a lot of places were closed. I contacted the community association to ask to put it at the entrance and got no response, when I asked one of the neighbours they were quite condescending about second hand/ sharing books. In other words I live beside snobs. Another reason why we’ll be moving soon. When I was little we had a library in our local village hall. Interestingly my future sister in law was the librarian. She remembered me coming in with my Mum and siblings. She also used to be the Sunday School teacher in the same hall. She remembered me wearing a little furry coat with matching muff. 😂😂😂 Talk about tangent. When they closed this library we would get the mobile library on a Tuesday. It came at 5pm. There would be a queue at the bus stop waiting for it. You did have to request books if you liked a favourite author. We were limited to 3 books from the mobile library. If you went to the big library in town I think you could check out 5.

    Much needed chat about libraries since they are disappearing at such a rate. I must have read every book in my tiny village library and we were encouraged to volunteer in our secondary school library. Similar to you Claire I loved the peaceful energy once inside that room away from the noise and the different worlds waiting to be found in all those books. Still feel the same about libraries and often go in them when visiting cities if I need a rest a bit like churches!

    My school library at junior school was actually haunted. Books used to come off the shelves. My maths teacher actually warned us of it. The whole school was haunted. I witnessed it in the clay room.. Flying clay across the room when myself and my best friend were on our own. We had actual clay being thrown at us out of nowhere... Actual fact!!

    I used to get excited going to my local GT newsagents for the comic "Bunty" as a little girl. I started out reading comics first like "Jackie" and "Smash Hits" to get the latest posters of my Idols to put up on my wall. 😊 Then I progressed to books. My first ever series of books I ever read was " Stig of the dump. Jayne and Peter and the Mr Men books. I've read to both of my children bedtime Stories after bath time. I felt it was an important routine for my children growing up. 😊

    I haven’t read any of these. I think when you were reading these I was reading Jackie Collins Lucky 🤫 I think my daughter read the worst witch. I loved reading her books and still have them all. If I ever have grandchildren they’ll be able to have them or I’ll read them when they visit.
