    Good stuff. A great next step would be to make the architecture a bit more aws-native. Like ALB instead of nginx, ACM instead of certbot, and maybe in another iteration ECS instead of EC2. This is a good way to get started for a beginner to understand the major services.

    You could have explained why you needed to buy a domain name and why you need a different FQDN. Is it mandatory to have a public domain name for the demo?

      No. You can use /etc/hosts on the web server, but you will need to change your hosts in Windows to recognize that the public ip address of your web server is the domain name that you wish to use

      yes you should add the source subnet id in your target's security group
