Fast toys? Sort of. Cheap toys? Absolutely! Reliable toys? Not so much! I've always loved a barn find project. If its rough but the bones are good I'm all over it. You can have the most fun with projects that are low initial outlay that require some hands on.
My most long term project is my e30 M30 that I built from the parts I had left over from parting out various e34, e30 and e21 BMW cars over a decade ago when eighties German cars were cheap and plentiful parts donors. Its been a track/skid/drift day missle ever since with its unkillable M30B35 engine, getrag 260/6 gearbox and s2 body.
The second project is an XC Ford Falcon 351 Cleveland powered sedan that I purchased in late 2020 and set about restoring for road use, the project took about 9 months from start to finish and was registered in August 2021. The Falcon will be a work in progress as these Classic Aussie Muscle Cars do need some upkeep. That is fine by me.

XC Ford Falcon 351 Crusty Wagon project: Time to button up wiring, washer bottle and battery tray!
So as we make our way through the Christmas break I find myself drawn to the shed to tidy up a few small jobs before the years end. My wife brought me an OEM water bottle that will take advantage of the factory mounting position and the factory wiring. All I needed to do was modify the battery tray so I could slide the battery forward to clear the plug for the washer motor.
While I was in amongst it I took the opportunity to pare the wiring back that went to the engine where the coil and electric choke used to sit leaving only the temp sender wire and the alternator wiring to worry about.

Hello intrepid viewers and welcome to the Christmas edition of the missle industries ford falcon 351 crusty wagon project. Now if you are watching this on Christmas evening you have probably had too much to eat and now it is time to sit down and let the food settle. That is what I'll be doing. But for the time being enjoy this short episode where crusty wagon gets plates I don't have to weld in...

มุมมอง 48119 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Hello and welcome to episode 52 of missle industries ford falcon 351 crusty wagon project. Now it was almost a year to the day that I first got this car fired up. In that process I had to scavenge some random battery cables from my parts bin to get the car to reliably crank. Today however it is time to replace my 12 month ad hoc solution with something more permanent like some 2 gauge cables an...
XC Ford Falcon 351 Crusty Wagon project: Edelbrock Performer 2V dual plane manifold hidden surprise!

So after months of sitting on my hands and refusing to buy a knock off air gap manifold I expanded my search to include more factory looking dual plane manifolds for my stock 4MAB 351 Cleveland and after watching a local youtuber by the name of Clevo King extol the virtues of the Edelbrock performer 2v manifold I went in search for one of those. As fate or coincidence would have it, there was a...

Hello and welcome to the second part of this window seal bashing, bailey channel replacing, glass wrangling, window winder installing and tinting film butchering episode! Hello and welcome to episode 48 where I stumble blindly into yet more uncharted territory. No I have never removed the door glass from a ford and I would rather avoid handling glass at all. Hi mate, The resistor/balast wire is a thick pink wire, I believe it was in XB back due to having points and it dropped voltage after start up to est 8 volts so as not to cook the points, XC had electronic ignition with the module on the guard near your ac dryer,,, I had that issue with my XB when I installed an electronic dizzy,, OH and high end msd etc need a constant 12.5 PLUS volts to be happy so I avoided those options,, Great video and happy new Year,, PS waht a great pressie from the lovely lady,,,
Happy New Year to you too, looking forward to 2025 and what you have planned. Always enjoy your updates!
Hi mate, Ford would use high resistance wire from the ignition switch and that would be the ballast resistor. The actual wire.
Hello, "Missle industry" I was analyzing your channel and saw that in your channel have some problem, That's why your channel is not much growing and not getting much engagement, If you can solve these problems, Your channel will grow like a storm. If you tell I can tell these problems. Where can I tell? Here or ig or where?
I thought Fords had fusible link wire which might be brown
I enjoy your videos, I hope you have a nother car to do
I enjoy your videos, I hope you have a nother car to do
20-1 box is 4 turns, 16-1 is about 3 1/4 turns. Power steer is under 3 turns. They do seem to be a bit different model to model. Variable ratio so the more you turn the quicker they are. There is also different 'assist' levels. I am unsure of how to sort the difference. XF seem to be better with the Saginaw pump. To get more 'road feel' add more caster. you can get 6 degrees with factory bushings. NEVER use poly bushings on these models, things will break. Chassis pick up, caster arm itself. Lower control arm. I have seen several of these broken and welded up numerous caster arm mounts.
If the HP line keeps weeping at the coupling u can get little cone shaped brass bushes to insert. I have some left over if u need some? I cant remember the part number.
Well done mate.🎉Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you and your family, looking forward to seeing what you have planned for 2025. Always enjoy your videos.
I love your positiveaty and your can do attitude TC , looking forward to 2025 Merry Xmas to you and family 😊
Merry Xmas. My wife said you don't annoy her like hot rod garage guy lol.
Merry Christmas to you to my friend. I'm looking forward to seeing this car on the road soon with some videos coming. At some point soon, I will be uploading some videos on my channel soon, too. Bill's Channel 1987. Cheers from William Mount Gambier, South Australia.
Maybe consider an xd style distributor, standard with no points.maybe consider an xd style distributor. Thanks for the great video.
Did the XD have the 0.5 mm more slender distributor shaft for the cleveland black block?
Hi mate, the later clevlands have smaller dist shaft hole if that's an xd block hole should be 12.5 mm
6 sec in,, it is a 302,, orange rocker covers, it is also written on the crank. XC on caarb and intake Having been there on those things check the rust in the waterjacket. They are very thin in the bores and if rusty will strike water when tanked then bored. Yes they are an obese top heavy pig!
Hmmm beefy cables. Nice result. Sounds awesome.
What’s the custom driveshaft length.
If it leaks, seal it like in this video using straight rtv, no cork or rubber end gaskets. th-cam.com/video/wMU3ngiGEzA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=58MgznENKSWfPo5B BTW, what you thought was a water cross over is actually a heat riser from the exhaust ports for a factory choke pre heat. The little cover with the 2 small bolts on the drivers side top middle of the manifold is where it would connect. This is why a Turkey pan is used on a stock cast manifold. It should also be used on an alloy manifold if the exhaust gas ports are left open. Think of that hot exhaust gas running directly across the bottom of your manifold under your carburettor, not good. Oil hits that and gets super hot. A lot of people think it's to stop hot oil hitting the underside of the inlet manifold. Yes this might be true, but the exhaust gas crossing over would be way hotter. A few options, weld up those ports, silicone a thin tin plate patch over them, silicone them up, or even stuff them with aluminium Foil. I think some manifolds delete (block off) the heat riser ports at the port face by not having the ports in the first place. A phenolic spacer is a good idea, although a waste of time until you block off the crematorium running under the manifold 😂
Aren't they so much lighter than the cast iron ones. I got a single plane Redline Torker 35 years ago from a guy that didn't need it anymore for $100.... Now there are $1000 plus. It's looking great, keep up the good work.
today the parts are every bit as collectible as the cars are!
just a heads up the cork china wall gaskets generally will leak best way is to use silicon instead clevo king has it in his videos and works great great work though
I found that clevo king video with the red RTV wall the day after I installed mine. I should have done more homework.
I swaped over to one of these on my cleveland - I think the main bennifit was the weight saving, and I would agree with gregh6794 that any power gain from it is very minimal without other improvments to compliment it. I recon you could change the world if you had both hands at your disposal. Which is to say I do not know how you do so much while holding that phone. another great missle industry production.
I was mainly concerned with the way the airflow transitioned through the adapter and into the cast manifold. Now that manifold is off I could have a grind at that to see if I can remove those flat surfaces.
Looking awesome mate and I'm looking forward to seeing this car on the road very soon
Cheers Bill, I'm getting close to completion for sure.
Pity about the damaged fingers though!😢
Yeah, much better today.
A phenolic spacer might be a worthwhile addition to not only insulate the carb from manifold heat but it lines the air cleaner better to the bonnet nostrils for better airflow into the carb. It worked wonders on my 351 XC
yes I have one on the sedan, I could probably get away with a one inch one with this manifold.
Good move staying away from Chyna stuff :) But really the factory cast 4 barrels are under rated ;)
the stock manifold would have been fine if I wanted to used the thermoquad, I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
@@Missleindustry Why? Thermoquads are absolutely awesome. I am a Thermoquad nut, but I must say it is a human trait to denigrate that which we don't fully understand. To that end I'm no exception I suppose LOL. So, I read the Carter Carburetor book. An SA publication. Then by sheer luck I found an article on how to set up a TQ properly. It turns out they left the factory incorrectly adjusted causing all these issues. This caused people to tinker with them endlessly to try and fix the issues which caused the mayhem. They do have some faults to look out for. The resin floats become saturated and sink. The brass floats crack from heat cycling and fill with fuel and sink. This float issue then causes the phenolic body screws to be overtightened causing the bosses to crack and leak fuel. The plugs at the bottom of the primary needle jet well fall out. If you can find a TQ with a good resin body then that's 3/4 of the battle won. There is a glue you can use to put the plugs back in. People also forget there are 2x long screws behind the choke flap on the primaries, causing levering to get it apart and cracking. Upside, they have great features. Secondary air door tension and opening, tapered jets on the primaries which are easily adjusted. They're big CFM wise too. You can modulate the richness by bending a tang to restrict or or open the secondary air door too. They are just so easy to adjust when you know how they tick. A major issue is the accelerator pump plunger listing is often incorrect. They do in fact have a double shot function - once when the primaries open and again as the secondaries open. If the plunger is too short the second stage squirt can't work. This causes a stumble as the secondaries open. Then the secondary vacuum dashpot needs a restrictor (later vac ports were restricted from the factory) and the dashpot needs to hold vacuum - that's the only dashpot you can't run without You put in brass primary throttle valves. What I do is remove a lot of the problem causing linkages on the accelerator cable side. You can use a Nikki carb (from a Nissan/Datsun) electric choke coil to fix all that. It fits right on. Feed it with 12v. You can get the throttle response on them to be like fuel injection and the induction roar is addictive.
Lucky U didn't strip the threads out of the crank
How's the window tint holding up
If I don't look too closely its fine, like the rest of the car really.
Maybe even add a clear coat
I was tempted to add some polyurethane, but it takes a long time to dry and it would have had to sit in my dusty shed the whole time so the wagon didn't fill with paint fumes.
I like it buddy old school ......
Can I see an after market shifter in the wagons future so being bumped into drive won’t happen again.
Bench seat floor shift?🧐
@ I did it in an XT I had, you will need to sit long while driving though.
Looks Good .. Build On
Looking mint and awesome, mate.
Sometimes things happen for a reason. The car looks much nicer with the 4 lights.
Not so crusty now🎉
Im loving the DJR XE and the Moffat XC wall art
You can purchase XB GT driving light ring inserts for your grille online, could be an option for you.
You can plastic weld those broken bits back in.... And use the plastic welding to fill in bits that might be missing.... Anyway once you cut holes, maybe make some homebrew rings from 150mm or so plastic pipe...
Yes I'm going to experiment with 150mm drain pipe cuts at some point.
@Missleindustry a mate just 3D printed me some hub centric rings for the rest of my hardtop. Impressive and cheap. Do you know someone with a 3D printer??
A professional window tinter using top quality tint will do a single cab ute for $500 minimum. A wagon you'd be paying 2k easy - I have 65 on my utes 5 windows and 15 on the windscreen
Looks great mate,, I watched a detail show years ago from the USA They used STEEL WOOL OOOO and sopay water,, I've doen this and magic bunnings has it,
Looks really good, it has come a long way from what it started out as.
You might want to track down the plastic washers that go behind the window winders so the handles don't munt the door trims. They also make the little silver discs for hiding the machine screws on the window winders to complete the door trims.
Another great episode.
Coming along and it looks great.
Got to hand it to you TC you are having a awesome crack well done looking good.
That god awful blue spoiler on the back - why ? It would look heaps better and cleaner without it, or at least painted white like the roof.
Sorry, keeping it.
With the inner felts, how did they attach? My hardtop inner felts were stapled to the metal top of the door card so I ended up having to use a couple of well placed rivets to get the new ones on.
I didn't do the inner felts Cambo, I'm pretty sure they were stapled. Tinting film hides my shame...for now.
@@Missleindustry yeah there was no way I could staple they the metal or try to find staples I could push thru the existing holes.
@@CamboFord Rivets sound like a good solution
Progressing nicely.
I am starting to see the finish line!
Awesome the tail gates are a pain.🎉
Cheers, it was new territory for me.
great video once again.. question is whats the next ford project lol?
I am always on the look out, if I ever find a hardtop for realistic money that is not to far gone that will be the next project.
Friend of mine in the outback wants to sell an XM, so it will be fairly rust free. If I had the cash I'd get it and introduce it to all the gear from a wrecked FG XR6 turbo ute.
